as soon as some of the other "top" guys show him a wheel.

let's face it, RV is on a whole different level than these guys.
eli might show him a wheel or two but I can guarantee it wont be all season long, and that's what counts. hopefully he doesn't end up on the ground doing it...

Usually it's hard to pin point the post that made a thread go downhill (not that this thread was the greatest, but a dirt bike discussion nonetheless). Not this time. It's this one.
Good call Grizz.
Hey Hammer, how many stupid pills did it take you to come up with that post?

I think some people see RV as invincible but he really doesn't have any aggressive competition that I'm sure Eli is willing to test. And Barcia was fading fast on the 250. I remember Baggett and Kenny going around him on the outside in a couple of his last 250 races. Eli is a different story and not comparable to Barcia. I'm not going to put money on the line but I'm optimistic that he will challenge even in SX.

I honestly see tomac as a mcgrath kinda rider in sx. He could upset everybody his rookie year. I think he has it.

I remember my dad telling a bunch of people MC would be great his first year on 250s...They all said no way. (look what happened)

I have a similar feeling for tomac.
"He will be knocking at the door way way harder than Barcia"

Did you not watch Barcia in SX? Don't let his outdoor season take away from what he did in SX. His phoenix and Seattle rides were both pretty dominate(Seattle he beat RV straight up btw) . I don't see tomac doing that good in SX his first year.

There's no way to tell. I would say he gets 3rd 6th place throughout the season, most likely toward 6th. He didn't really have a breakout ride when he was on a 450. Not like Dungey, Canard, and Seely did when they were part time on the 450. He's plenty cocky and aggressive, but he has had lapses in consistency over the last few seasons for no apparent reason.

im a big eli fan, however, his starts are not the best
if he wants to beat rv he will have to start with him or not far behind
a 12th place start will not cut it when RV starts in the top 3

starts on a 250f , being one of the heaviest guys in the class , and starts on a 450 are going to be totally diff thing IMO , you right he needs good starts , but think it will be a lot diff on a 450

Substitute the word confident for cocky. Dungey, Canard and Seely are not cocky either. I'm not saying that's what Burn meant but if we're talking riding styles, his riding style is cocky. His personality is laid back.

Dungey ran with JS7 on his rookie debut. Didn't beat him but JS was in his prime still and they both ran away with the main. Your guess isn't as crazy as some think. Tomac is going to be training while RV is healing.

The question, Rick, is what's there to be done about it. The testing now and that can be done is a joke, and an expensive one. WADA can't even get an HGH sanction sustained. Almost all the busts have been people getting ratted out or discovered by hard evidence, not tests.

Eli is a bad mofo that is fosho! One of my favorite riders without a doubt BUT he isn't going to run with RV for a while. Realistically everyone on here knows that, just some don't want to admit it. He has raced the 450 with no so good results in the US, atleast not results that say he will be sticking it to the best to ever ride a scooter.

There is no doubt that Eli is the future....how long in the future remains to be seen. RV is the present and presently there isn't anyone racing today that can beat him indoors our outdoors week in and week out.

i feel like eli is being underestimated here , i wouldnt be surprise if hes right in the points chase to the end & as much i want my boy dungey to finally shut up the critics & beat rv in a full series where rv doesnt get injured , the more rv gets surgery , the stronger the dude gets , eventually its goona catch up to him like its doing to js7. its goona be a one hellva year for the sport i can tell you that.

Eli's got some serious training, bulking up & 450 experience before he's there... but how long you give it before Villo hears that Honda behind him? I see Eli Tomac as the heir apparent to the 450 crown. I like the young mans training ethics, discipline & talent he's exhibiting. He also WANTS IT. BAD.

What say you??
How long? First chance he gets?

Doesn't mean he'll win; but, he'll challenge anyone out there.

Healing? He's already been practicing and training for MEC...while tomac was still riding outdoors for mxdn. Healing was over real quick, probably as soon as the incision healed up.

Yep Jack, sometimes I guess I do.
But I drop in on Vital routinely-daily(illness otheres are apparently afflicted with), and I've grown weary of the same old silly posts, arguing, etc. Just a another conversation here on Vital-something of substance...

I thought for a while before posting, and while I believe Eli definitely has some needed race time exp coming on the 450, I-like some others I see, believe there's something special there. I see a lot of RV-Ryan Dungey there-(and some things better/some not quite there).
And yep, Eli had Barcia covered in Bam Bams last yr on 250s-just as I believe he'll make a better 450 rider

He's going to be a major force on a 450 IMO. Next topic.

He will be a contender at the first gate drop on a 450 and the next in line to be #1. It may take a little, but now he can focus 100% of his time on the 450 and his starts will come around if not right away. This year is going to have a lot of riders that can win and highest group of talent ever, to be on the gate at the same time. With Stewart's age getting up there and the young guns hanging it out even faster than him now, I have a feeling this year is a win or retire year for him. Hitting the ground gets scarier every year you get older and last year was the first year it seemed to effect him. Tomac on the other hand isn't scared and just getting started! It's just a matter of time before we are saying ET1 and RV2. What a great time to be a MotoFan!
I believe you are prophetic Chris. Wink

For a single race? This coming season. As a championship contender? Never. Not if Villopoto retires soon like everyone expects him to.

Eli is a good kid from a good family with a good father and a good mother, who are from a great city in a great state, pay their taxes, pray in school, eat beef, and drink milk. What's not to love? He may show RV a wheel but RV is a good man from a good family with a good grandpa who also eats beef and drinks milk so it's gonna be tough to predict. Did I mention that Dungey is a good man from a good family and a great state too? Oh and so is everyone else that is faster than me. However, if you're slower than me, you suck and you're from a crappy family and a crappy state and I doubt if you eat beef and drink milk or even love guns. #stampit

Eli Definitely had Barcia covered in 250s, and they only raced 250sx together like once where Tomac got bad starts in Vegas. He left Barcia behind outdoors. Eli will be a contender immediately.

Tomac showing RV a Wheel is just wishful thinking, he'll probably be the most competitive of Everyone and will be 2nd in both SX and MX, but as far as him beating Villopoto for the title is just a Fantasy for people who want to see the Champ knocked off the Mountain. The Racing will be Great in 2014, best we've probably seen, since the 2006 SX title chase and if it's possible, I really look forward to seeing the Rider that is going to ride a 450 faster than Villopoto does, that is going to be impressive. I guess in a few weeks we'll get to see if Eli actually has anything for RV at the Monster Energy Cup
