It's hilarious to see this batted back and forth by people on completely opposing sides like somehow the middle grown just ceased to exist. You take a risk with any dog or pet, cats and even fish can bite too. They're freaking animals, most of them carnivorous hunters. Those instincts are only a single generation removed and if left alone they'll revert back to that in a matter of days. Pits are the same as any other, they just happen to be particularly good killers when they wanna be.

Look on the bright side folks.. people really don't seem to give any more of a shit about raising their kids correctly than they do their dogs. This is what happens when the weak of society are allowed to live and breed, you get mass stupid.

Let me preface this by clearly stating that I am not a veterinarian, so take this with a grain of salt as I do not know it to be fact. In regards to pit bulls, I do have a friend that is a veterinarian that explained their temperament to me. Basically, there are a couple of traits that make pits "dangerous." One of these traits is their ability to cope with aggression and anger. Apparently, pits do not immediately process their anger and tend to suppress their anger and aggression. As a result, it is possible that pits can "snap" (for lack of a better term). This can occur at a time that seems unprovoked and unexpected. Also, they are simply very strong animals that don't know their own strength. Similar to when the orca at sea world killed the trainer while many think the orca was simply playing with the trainer. Pits also have the ability to inflict a great amount of harm unintentionally while playing with a human due to their strength.
With that being said, I think any dog has the ability to inflict bodily harm on a human. Obviously some breeds can be worse than others. I have no dog in this fight (no pun intended), I just wanted to share with you all what I had been told about pits. Take it for what it is-secondhand advice. Have I researched all of this on my own to verify it? No, but it seems to be rational to me.

What I will say, though, is that I don't think the personal attacks on josh and his family are helping anyone. The incident has already occurred. When incidents like this occur, you need to learn from it and figure out how to keep it from occurring again, not bash on the person over and over. Josh grant is not one of my favorite riders. In fact, he is far from it. But he is a fellow father and I can't imagine how bad he must be feeling. He doesn't need people to add to that.

Perhaps we need two threads: a Wyatt grant feel better thread, and a pit bull thread (maybe in non-moto)?

Hopefully their aren't too many typos or autocorrected words in my post because I wrote this on my phone in the car (passenger seat). I apologize in advance if my statements are incorrect, as I am not a veterinarian.

Why don't you folks just wish Grant's son "Get well" and send good wishes to the family, and take the armchair dog expert arguing to the non-moto section?

Just seems so damn disingenuous for some of you to in one breath wish his son get well and then crap on them about the type of dog they own.

Just be human and wish the best for their son and leave it at that

Argue about your opinions on dog breeds in non-moto or a separate thread entirely.

Well said Dave!

Get well young Wyatt! Josh and his wife are dealing with enough emotional stress over this and they damn sure don't need you fucktards telling them ow to be parents! My bet is most of these clowns bashing Josh don't have kids.... If they did they would know just what the Grants are dealing with and the type of sacrificial love MOST parents have for their kids! I've never met Josh, but would be willing to bet that Josh or his wife would have traded places in an instant to protect Wyatt from this!

You judgemental condescending pricks make me sick!

Again, get well Wyatt!! Josh and Mrs. Grant, there's a lot of us out here who have y'all in our thoughts and prayers!

I don't understand why anybody would trust a pitbull with little kids .
I would not even let a pitbull get near my child and my buddies pitbull even so much as growled when my kid is around I'd probably shoot the damn thing.. My old roommate had a pitbull for 8 years thing was like a big teddy bear.. The mail man would come every day the water guy once a week and fresh milk once a week.. One day the mailman came up too drop the mail and the pitbull took off an dove through a massive bay window an mauled the mail man pretty bad.. He was ordered to have the dog put down

I use to rent a room from a guy and he had 2 of the sweetest loving Pit Bulls you could imagine. I use to roll around w/ those dogs feed em from my mouth, etc...

One day I was out and my roomie answered the door and there was a crack in the door, the 2 pitbulls spotted a tiny little dog maybe 150' away on a leash being walked by her owner. The pitbulls broke thru my roomies legs that were blocking the door and by the time my roomate caught up to them they had literally torn this dog in half, well it's legs and lower torso were off anyways. Intestines were strung out on the concrete.

The little dog died a torturous death over about the next 30 minutes. The owner screamed and cried. My roommate had been thru this before and literally packed all of his stuff and moved back to CA (we were in TX) under cover of dark over the next week. The next day he told me that the Animal Control people had been beating on the front door for like 30 minutes but he just kept the door locked. I assume they would have put the 2 pitbulls down.

I was usually staying at my gf's so I got most of this from the owner and the other roommate.

I LOVE the breed but what if they had killed someone's child? It's just not worth the risk. The only way to control the pit bull problem would be if you own a pit bull and it kills a human, you should be charged w/ murder and preferably get the death penalty. Then and only then would people be much more cautious w/ this breed.

Lastly, I'd point out that lots of (smaller) dogs will snap at you and bite. The difference is they don't have the ability to inflict serious injury on a human like a Pit can.

Get well Wyatt!

PS. I took my 17 month olf to the ER last week myself for stiches and it flat sucks!

I believe the OP indicated it was a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) and not a Pit Bull. There is hardly a more docile and tolerant dog than a Sheltie, we have one. But when my daughter was young she got over by his food dish when he was eating and he snapped at her and got a puncture wound from his tooth below one eye. She healed up fine. Point is; shit can happen with even the gentlest breeds of dog.

It hasn't even been 30 minutes from my first post in this thread and I am already regretting even taking part in this discussion. It's not going well.

Sorry YZRider, that was just B.S. because I had already been told it was a pit and was trying to steer the train back on the tracks even though I knew the derailment was inevitable.

The moral of this 3 page thread is don't feed dogs from your mouth, because that's just something you shouldn't admit to.. ever.

And get well soon Wyatt!

I suspected maybe it was a joke as Sheltie's are very docile dogs, but my story hopefully still makes a valid point for this topic (train wreck?).

so many clowns in this place these days, have some respect and keep your "anti pit-bull" remarks out of this thread.

best wishes to the Grant's through this ordeal. my cousin was bit by the most friendly lab in the neighborhood and had extensive surgery to fix his problems. it happens and you can't pick one breed out of them all.

It can happen with most any dog.. The biggest problem owners do is allow face to face time. Reporter got close in Colorado and the dog reacted. They still can have deadly instincts.

Such a shitty turn this thread took.

Aside from it tuning into a pit vs. other dog breed fest, Hammertime you are a dick. In a thread about the welfare of a child you take pot shots at Grant AGAIN. What a douche.

I was attacked by a dog as a child and still have a huge scar on my cheek to this day. It was a "good dog" that "never hurt anyone" also. The dog had been raised from a pup by on older couple who lived next door. I played with it every day until one morning it decided to rip my face off.

Statistics don't lie, Pit bull's are dangerous animals to have around your kids.
