I read that also. I kind of thought it might be McGrath, from some of the stories he said in his book.

It has to be Reed. Chad himself has even hinted at the fact that he was having a lot of fun during 2008 and did not have to try so hard to win the SX title that year.

Being that he said it wouldn't be possible now, I thought he ment early in his career MC/Emig era.

Lechien went straight to 250 SX at 16 years old. Back then real men did not race 125's in stadiums. Laughing

Welcome to the '90's. You'd be even more surprised at the AX scene too. When everyone at the top is running it rockstar status, the field becomes level.

I know quite a few pros (guys you've seen lined up for SX races) or local fast kids that need to get stoned at some point during a race day.

I have Bar to Bar 2002, and in it Emig says every night before a race he HAD to find a place that served baked potatoes. I'm thinkin that was either to soak up the alcohol, or is some kind of code word for an Irish drink that gets you hammered!

When Emig was winning, everyone felt it was allowed because the Champs was getting hammered. Best part, he would always pick up the tap!

Why is there even a conversation about who it is?

I know without a doubt it's Reed.

I'm sure Matthes and JT$ will elude to but never state the fact on the next Pulp show.

Maybe he drank a lot that year, but I don't think the original comment was about Reedy. Why would he say "once upon a time" about a rider that's still active and was battling for championships as recently as 2012?

Just a thought...I have always heard that RC was (and may still be) a pretty heavy drinker. Don't know whether he did that while competing, but there have been rumors about him banging the whiskey back pretty heavy and indulging in quite a bit of devil lettuce too.

I've heard the story directly from Matthes before.

He's saying "Once upon a time" to elude to something that happened in the past without giving away a specific date or time.....doesn't mean it couldn't be a rider that's still racing.....just that once upon a time this rider was still pretty buzzed at the riders meeting of a SX and likely a bit hungover by the time the night show started.

Dumbgeon please. Threads like this are way too gossipy for my tastes plus they indirectly glorify alcohol usage
