Based on rough observation I would say the jury is unfortunately still out on this one. No worries.....no one ever gets hurt in this sport so it's not like a critical piece of protective equipment.....especially the models that provide spinal protection too.
I do occasionally wear an under protector if the dirt is real clumpy.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
Other then that, the under protectors you see guys like Stewart wearing are very popular.
You simply can't see people wearing them, but many do.
And I wear it on the outside of my jersey. Fashion be damned!!
What are some of the better options out there now I still have my old Hallman and AXO chest protectors but they are all warped and cant be worn anymore. I was looking at both TLD and FOX what are your opinions out there on what works well with an atlas neck brace?
check out some of his under armor, which is a custom-made piece from Fox Racing that integrates the sleeves from their Titan Sport Jacket, a well-ventilated chest plate from a Proframe LC Roost Deflector, and a back protector from Ortema.
You really can not say protection won't save you from a broken collarbone or ribs. Too many variables but one thing I know for sure when I have 400 plus pounds rolling over my upper body I will take all the protection I can wear.
ocscottie-Roczen is no dummy.
For the record roost protectors don't even come close to providing any real chest protection in a crash scenario.

no f*cks given on what I look like- injuries= time off work so wearing good armour is a no brainer for me. I use hand guards too - and a good quality helmet (bell moto 9 this year but always had aria's previously)
- seems stupid to me that most people don't wear any body armour nowadays, I don't think It restricts movement at all so its ridiculous that they choose not to protect their ribs/ back!
who cares if they are 'cool' or not!
Another time: I washed my front end in a down hill in 4th gear. I got up 12 meters later, the bike 20, a bit bruised but I guess the 3 mm rubbed down from the JT chest protector helped.
For me it is as crazy to not wear chest/back protectors as boots, knee braces and helmet. By the way, thanks ocscottie for Roczen pictures, I could not find it again.
do you think vohland changed his mind after being run over in 99 or always wore one?

I went to Bobs Cycle yesterday and tried on chest protectors, the damage to my body could have been easily avoided with the addition of a chest protector. My damaged ribs/chest fit right behind the plastic on the Scott I purchased and my shoulder would have had coverage also, I guarantee I would be riding right now instead of nursing my bad ribs/shoulder. I cant sleep at night, I have a hard time taking a deep breath and am generally in alot of pain.
So go ahead, dont wear a chest protector, your choice, but I will never ride without one again. My chest protector is now on the same list as my helmet and knee braces, no riding EVER without them.
Here is me in the er, good times, NOT!
Totally right and I agree. I'm amazed at the number of people who don't wear anything. OK it may not save you, but I'd want to at least know that I'd done everything reasonably possible to prevent it. And in my mind having "something" there as opposed to just a jersey.... could likely make all the difference in a good many situations. Well done to Kenny there on setting a good example.
(Sorry Mr. Kardas, had to borrow a part of one of your images...)
