With all of the thievery becoming so commonplace I was just wondering who has stepped up the game?

1). I run a 1" thick anchor chain through my frame.
2). I have an alarm and video in my garage.
3). 2-100+lb dogs cruising my entirely fenced property.
4). Motion lights that glare into my master bedroom when they go on at night.
And.....

I came home from work one day to find my garage door wide open! I pulled in and found NOTHING missing! I couldn't believe it! 4 motorcycles, tools, computer, TV, etc.... I was sooo lucky..... I must have drove off w/o closing it.... Anyone would have also had full access to the house....

I lock my bikes to an anchor I installed in my garage concrete floor. I also chain and lock them when in the bed of my truck. Can never be to careful.

You being in the high desert have to be extra careful with all the tweekers around. Those mother efffers will steel anything that they can get there hands on!

LoL you ain't kidding. They are now breaking into construction jobs and cutting everything with copper out of vehicles and stealing all the batteries, hacking catalytic converters with a 18V saws-all etc.

I don't chain them up in my garage which has a security system, but I do remove the rear wheel and store it in my house which also has a security system. Like anything else, if they want it bad enough they will be able to get it, but its not to easy to steal a bike that only has the front wheel.

I've done the same thing. was halfway from Orlando to ft Lauderdale on an overnight trip when it occurred to me that I might have forgotten (was parked facing away from the door). Had my bud drive over and close it. Abject terror.

I built my house 11 years ago and to this day I do not own a key to my house. When my son was in the hospital out of state for a year my new house full of new furniture was empty and unlocked for a whole year and I would come by once a week to check on things. All that said we have been chaining my sons bikes up for about the last year or so because of scumbags comming from other areas to steal bikes.
If they try to come in my house they will get to meet my Rott Zoey and if we are not home and if we are home they better hope they get to meet Zoey.Laughing

Guys, this really isn't wise to advertise your personal security measures. A little easy research can unearth what all your toys are, location, security measures to overcome, common movements....the whole shooting match. Its like a shopping list / task list for would be thieves.

i.e. a lot of us post with pride what nice bikes we have, what days and hours we are at work/gym/race track, location can be easy if not directly posted and now security!

Just a thought

I used to keep mine in the house.
5/16/2013 6:08pm
I lock mine with a 3/4" cable to my car wheel that is on my car in the garage and then I lock my buddy's bike through my frame......they r gonna work for it if they want it. Dave

And still you post!?

pro thieves are known to use such apparatus as the fire service...think jaws of life...to either crush, pry or simply crunch through anything you can think of like locks, doors, walls even!

It's my experience that you can't make anything "theft proof". But if you take a few simple precautions, you can usually make them look for an easier target. That said, I lock up our bikes and trailors. If they want it, that are gonna have to do at least a little bit of work.

My garage is alarmed and my bikes are locked up with a chain and a lock that a torch would have to cut through.
5/16/2013 9:19pm
I have been wanting to buy a bed alarm like they put on old senile people in nursing homes. I figure it would be perfect because if anyone moved the bike at all it would alarm really loud and they would probably just drop it and run and they wouldn't be able to figure out how to shut it up...hopefully

I wash my bike in the backyard so nobody sees...

I put a bed sheet over my bikes in the garage...so nobody can reconize them

I have a cable going through the wheels....

I don't advertise my bikes to the neighbors and SHOW THEM OFF on the driveway...

When I had them on my driveway washing and working on them guys would drive up and want to talk and shoot the shit at the same time looking in my garage at all my bikes, machines, tools, etc. so I stopped

I just insure them for more than they're worth. Then pray to god someone takes them in the night.

$74 a year insures my 2008 yz 250 that I paid $3,000 for in 2010. With additional coverage of $4,000 in aftermarket parts for a measely three whole dollars ($3) more, I got a kelly blue book + $4,000 policy from an insurance company.

When's the last time you guys sold a bike for blue book + $4,000?

Insure your shit!

Go to walmart and get a cheap door alarm. Attach the fixed end to the stand and the other end to the frame, if you get a west coast earth quake the alarm goes off.

Exactly.

You can never guarantee total security, but human nature being what it is (even for scum thieves), if you make it as hard as possible then they'll always be more inclined to go for an easier target. In my country bike security is an absolute MUST! We have a huge problem with motorcycle thefts over here. I have great security myself but I'm a fool for letting my insurance lapse... really should get round to that.

I used to insure, now not, had a few friends get stiffed by their insurance scum scammers

I trust insurance companies as much as thieves

My bike was just stolen in between when I posted that and 518 am this morning.

Insure your bikes.

I guess be careful what you wish for because the set up I had on my bike and the TLC I put into it is not worth the damn money that i'm recieving. It ran awesome and now some fucker has it.

No, monitored alarm, locking garage doors and fortunate to live in a pretty decent area on a cul-de-sac with no easy access or exit and where the crime going on is basically kids stealing what can be concealed and carried off. They seem to be targets of opportunity too. At the track or desert I run a cable from the bike to the toy hauler but I've never even had the stuff left outside tampered with.

No kidding, that's incredible.. Good thing he's got insurance, still sucks for the guy. I had my 94 KX500 stolen back in 2000, I know the feeling.. I still look hard at every KX500 I see hoping to find it one day.
