Steve Bruhn passed away

for years i archived every photo steve shot. at times there were so many that we'd just rail through them quickly to find a particular shot for a particular client's needs. neither of us has ever seen all the photos he shot. we just didn't have the time.

he really loved that motorhome he bought from david vuillemin. as an engineer, he kept that thing running long beyond the point where it should have been taken out and shot. he even re-wired my garage so he could plug the great white whale into the house when he stayed here during west coast events. he had a muiti-year war with the generator in that thing. he refused to give up until he won.

he was really proud of losing all that weight and feeling so much better. a quick look in his fridge told you that even a rabbit wouldn't survive on what he ate. but it worked for him and he was always pushing me to try it.

ricky carmichael loved the guy. steve was very proud of the fact that ricky invited him to his small, private bachelor party...and asked him to take pictures. steve was a guy you could trust with something like that.

last weekend i heard both jeff emig and RC use the term "seat bounce", one of steve's passionate subjects. it immediately made me think of steve, wonder if he was watching, assumed that he was, and knew he'd be laughing.

i don't think he ever quit taking pictures. after retiring from the weekly grind of the races, he was relaxing in a campground when a storm showed up. he sent me about 50 photos, shot throughout the day, showing the campground progressively submerging. he waited until the motorhome started to float before pulling out of there.

over the years steve had to make a lot of difficult, life-changing decisions. some were work related. some personal, but each time he had to choose a path, he took the time to analyze it from as many angles as possible.
the last time i saw him struggle was over accepting the job at nasa. it wasn't the job he was worried about, but rather the fact that by taking that job, he was having to say good-bye to many of the close relationships he'd formed in the motorcycle industry. the new job just didn't allow the freedom or time to keep those relationships going. that really bothered him.

i'm sure there's lots of steve bruhn stories. he had lots of friends, over 2,600 just on his facebook page alone. he was one of those guys who could meet somebody once, and not only remember their name, but where they worked, where they worked BEFORE that, and etc...

i don't think steve ever realized how much of an impact he had on the sport. if he did, i never heard him brag about it. i wonder how many people got excited enough after seeing one of his photos, to go out and start a racing career. betcha there's a lot of them riding now, who wouldn't be, if it wasn't for steve.

i won't be getting those phone calls or emails from steve any more.
when steve would call and ask how you were doing, he actually wanted to know.
i won't hear about rockets, or cats or doctor diets anymore.
it's sad, but comforting to know that his talent and effort will still be felt for years to come.
i'll miss steve, but i'll never forget him, because to live in the hearts of those left behind, is not to die.

Also do something at the TN National, a gathering to celebrate Steve's life for those of us who can't make it to Alabama.

They also want to do something along the lines of instead of flowers donate to but not sure what yet?? I'd say something moto, but the moto industry shit on Steve, something he was so passionate about, so I don't think that's a good fit, maybe something to do with kids or ?
