Speaking with some people I know, the conversation went to the level of compitition in Canada. Personally, I do not follow the riders from that area and do not know the validity of these statements. They were saying the AMA will tame down the track this weekend for the local Canadian riders who are trying to make the show.

The reason for this, as told to me, is the level of riders in that area are not compatable with the US riders. I wouldn't think it matters where you live vs going fast on a dirt scooter...

Since the visiting Americans will have to sleep in igloos and eat raw whale blubber as soon as they cross the border, they will all be sick as dogs, and not able to race anyhow....

Advantage Canada....Fuck yeah.

Not to mention they will have to trade-in the big Semi's for dog sleds, just to make it to the stadiums....

It's pretty crowded up here, economy is horrible, nothing to see, nothing to do.

It's not that our best guys are any less-skilled.

For a number of reasons, there aren't many aspiring Canadian pros that sign up to try SX, though there are many that could and would do well.

Toronto SX has had almost no local entries the last few years, this is probably an attempt to reverse that trend.

It's not because the canadian rider are have less skill. We are simply bigger since we eat ''poutine'' all the time. It's harder for us to go over a 65' triple. Good thing is we have better traction because of the weight.

Oh yeah american fellows, don't forget to bring mirrors or old winchester gun to trade again some good old beaver furs!

Kamloops National 2009. This is the first and last time they had this double that big. Almost every 250F was coming up short. Every 450 rider had to be WFO the whole way to clear it. And you had to jump it to have any chance of qualifying. There was Helicopters on hand the whole day and I'm not entirely sure but I think like 4-6 guys had to be air lifted out due to injuries from crashing on this jump. I know 1 of those was a broken back.

We have snow half the year. Plays a role.

The only local riders attempting to qualify as far as I know are Nick Beatty and Cole Thompson, and they have both been riding the whole East Coast Series.

The reason could be that there is no real SX in Canada. There is AX and MX, and one dummy SX in October. Not that our riders are not skilled, but they lack the experience and bike set up to be competitive and safe on a real SX track. They can do good on an outdoor track though.

Not only that, Canadian riders will also be able to use the Villopoto rule (no Monster sticker needed) where you pick the penalty and the timing of enforcement.

Timing of the enforcement ? Fuck dude, we send out "The Enforcer". Better hope you've got good dental coverage..........

I wonder how a dirt rider like Friese or Bam Bam would do with one of these dudes waiting for them the next time the "do the dirt" and have to step on the ice for their next shift ?

I grew up at that track and was there for the 1st race ever there, 1977 I believe. It was a beauty when it started but eventually we got to the point where we raced there like a dozen times a year and the track got nasty, and I think would easily match any sand track except for perhaps Lommel. It was incredibly rough and racing in that kind of sand that often over the course of a season just ruined bikes.

By the way, it is now a golf course! If I ever won enough money, I would buy that property, have a bunch of buddies play a round of golf on er, then start up the bikes and tear it up! Talk about a wet dream.

Listen, not trying to offend any of you Canucks up there in snowmans land.. I personally was just sayin I dont know/follow riders from that area and had no idea who or how many would show to try and make it in. I hope three dozen show up and give'er a go.. ah? I think that would be awesome, for them and for yous guys...

The other part of that was do you really think the AMA or FIM or whoever... would do anything different to the track? I understand you only get so many months out of the year to ride and hearing this, almost sounds legit to help the locals... wanted some local input and thanks for the ones who answered seriously. Just say'in

Actually the weather in lots of provinces compares well to northern states like New York, Michigan, Minnesota or even Ohio.
So I think it's more a matter of being familiar with SX type tracks as well as bike setup.

The rider from the area is Cole Thompson, he's a top 10 rider in your area.

I believe only 2 Canadians will race Toronto. Like three9zero said, Cole Thompson is one of them and he showed he can run top 5 and was on the Star Racing team at the end of last summer. He grew up racing in the US. Only did a handful of pro races in Canada.

The other one is Nicky Beatty, who hasn't qualified for a night show yet in 250 East.

There's no way they would tame down the track for 2 riders. It's not like only these 2 would go faster compared to the rest just because of that. It makes no sense. Even when the 250 class was not part of the AMA regional standings (aka 250 or Lites East SX) the tracks were not tamed down.

IF the jumps are smaller I say it would be because of the snow they just got before they built the track and the possible lack of good dirt in the area. Nothing to do with Canadian riders or Canadian influence.. only weather and dirt availability.

The two riders mentiond above are not are top riders. They would get stomped at a outdoor Canadian national. With that said im rooting for Cole Thompson.

Cole Thompson would get stomped at a Canadian National? Think again.
