Changing of the guard

Edited Date/Time 3/4/2013 9:19am
Seems like we have a changing of the guard in AMA SX. Exciting times, but a little sad to see guys like Reed, Villopoto and Stewart struggling in the pack and not coming through quicker. Imagine when Tomac and Roczen move up to the 450cc class.

Barcia is going to be a player when he moves up.

Yep seasons nearly over, it's time the hasbeens pull up the rocking chair, cover themselves in a blanket and chew on a pipe whilst telling the grandkids how easy they have it...Blink Tongue Woohoo

Just my opinion, but I see something McGrath like about Barcia.......And until Villopoto can get out of the gate I can't see him winning a race.

Stupid or amazingly smart. Lets look at it when the season is over.....I said it was my opinion. There is something special about that kid.

Then how do you account for Millsap and Dungey?? After Phoenix Barcia is on a rookie high, he was pretty ragged in his heat styling around and did crach last week. CR,RV and JS are suffering from setup and injury issues. JS did set fast lap for practice. I dont think the changing of the guard is here just yet.

Aussies are perceived as the smart ones that left Britain behind*, right?

Motocross Illustrated, think you might have blown your beans a little early here. Of course you could be right, but only time will tell.

Whatever happens it looks like it is going to be a pretty awesome SX season. Everyone wins when it is like this.

Top riders are being smart and riding for points. Let the young guy go out and crash himself out of the series. Last year was a disaster with a dozen riders injured. All it takes is one crash and the rider is out for the season.

Barcia has a good chance of being the champ this year. Having Stanton in his corner is huge! But dont count out RV, he is just as fast if not faster. But he has made a lot of mistakes...Nothing new here, every 2-3 years a 250 guy moves up and starts winning right away. Sure wish Tomac was on a 450

Was thinking the smae Geoff, seems to be a changing of the guard for sure. Tomac was second quickest in practice, Roczen was quicker than Dungey. Barcia has won already, Tomac Roczen and Wilson are just as fast and all moving up next season!

Reed and Stewart are clinging on still because they are two of the greatest ever, but times are changing, the youngsters are coming! Great time for SX since the old, the present and the future are all racing together right now and all competitive.

In all sports now, when amateurs turn pro, they are ready and groomed to take no prisoners.

LOL, brilliant.. Recent John Cleese interview after an expensive divorce. "at least I know my next wife won't be after me for my money".

With 15 rounds left to race I would say it's way premature to say call a changing of the guard! Especially with RV, Reed, and Stewart just coming back from serious injuries

I think it's just that there are more in the guard now, even if some are closer to the beginning of their careers than others.

2 races is not near enough of a sampling to say for sure. Stewart is injured, and Villopoto has gotten off to a bad start, but has looked the fastest. I think when all is said and done he will be on top again. Deepest field we have seen in a long time.

Justin looked good but there is a lot of season left. I think Tomac belongs in the conversation but until Roczen wins something over here, he is on the outside looking in on that group.

Changing of the guard? Maybe. A little too early to call.
Parity? Nice to know that there are so many with a legitimate shot at a win.
Entertaining? Abso#%!?inglutely!

Here's my opinion on RV, Reed and Stewart

RV - fastest out there when it comes down to it, but the guy is riding like a maniac (not always good). He will probably win the most races, but I dnt think he will win the title riding like this. It is okay to settle for a 2nd or 3rd...or with this field a 5th. Ya, I know he is out there to win, but a 5th is better than crashing two more times for 16th.

Reed - I think it could be setup, it could be he is at that point where he isnt willing to push it. Im fearing and hoping its not the later, but thats what I truly think it is. He has 2 kids now and his health, and let be honest he's lucky to have his health after his last two big crashes, both were pretty crazy. Maybe he has reached that point. I hope not, but we will see as the season rolls on.

Stewart - he's hurt plain and simple. Would have been nice to see him get Weimer, but the fact that he is ridng with a torn ACL (my guess) is impressive. Ive done it before and its not fun, of course I was going way slower too.

Barcia is the real deal I think we all knew that coming into this season, would love to see a rookie season champ again!

good god ,its only two races in , how can u say vilo is part of the old guard ,anyway , like he is prob only 23 , how the hell is that old , everyone on here is sooooooooooooo quick to jump to opinion s on riders , after a single race ,all these threads about Reed , Stewart, beening washed up is so stupid , then read the young guys are coming , theres already really good young guy in the 450s ,RD,RV,TC,DM, , the only rider thats heading near the end is Reed age wise , even stewart could be at the top level for anther 4 year if he wanted ,
