What it all comes down to is James as always making bad decisions ! Why not calm down a little on those practises. He must always be fastest, and now as many times before it strucks back to him !

He was healthy, has a bike he likes....but still things go wrong !
All the top guys crash though. Last year for instance, CR, RD RV and of course JS - all lost races due to injuries. And we barely saw TC at all. I accept James seems to wad up the most but in reality I don't think it's comparatively as much as people think. They're all pushing so hard in practice and in the race... anyone of them could pick up an injury at anytime.

If James had ridden very quite the whole event and rolled in with a top 5 - everyone would then be saying "Oh look, James doesn't have it anymore". They wouldn't be saying "Clever by James, it's early days, best to bring in a top 5 for now."

MRI is the final say. But a good ortho "or even a good PA that that works for an ortho who specializes in these things" can do a physical exam and have a very good idea of the problem.

And who's to say that he hasn't had an MRI?
Nobody, but if a source is guessing its an ACL, they haven't done an MRI and its all speculation at this point. Of course speculation is what powers this board so I would'nt expect anything less.

I have never had a major knee injury, but I have twisted and tweaked my knees plenty of times. I have been as lame as James was in that video after an incident, but then back to normal within a few days. Until we know more, I am hoping that is all it is.

All speculation,Stewart's injuries and speculations have history, who knows is could well be a security cloak for coming up short in his peformances?

One things for sure, after an average start,he's not going to cut through the pack like he used to,I hope he's ok though the more healthy guys to the line the better

He certainly gives this board some fodder,a thread showing his new gear for example, its hard to believe how you can generate the amount of pages from just that??

What it all comes down to is that some people will find fault in everything James does. Why not acknowledge that he didn't even crash and sometimes shit happens when riding motorcycles so fast.

He should have calmed down? Your bias is showing. Did he look out of control to you? If he likes his bike and was riding well, why slow down, he probably could have gone even faster, but looked to be within his comfort zone. It just gets old when people go after him for everything he does. Racing is dangerous, and unfortunately these things do happen.

Hopefully he hasn't torn his acl and its just a sprain. I tore mine when I was 16 and there was no way I could ride again with it torn, had no confidence to stick my leg out even when cycling. Couldnt really put any weight on it for a few days but probably didn't help that I started running on it as soon as it happened to see how bad it was haha.

Remember Cairoli in 2011, badly twisted his knee at the first round (damaged patellar tendon and miniscus, small femur fracture and stretched ACL) and still went on to win the world title.

Things I have learned about James over the years.

1 when he wins its because he was lucky and didnt crash.

2 when he does crash it was because he was riding over his head.

3 when he doesnt win its because he is washed up.

4 he is the only one that crashes when pushing a bike to its limmits

So I guess all the wins, championships, perfect seasons and millions in earnings means othing.Laughing

Crazy. I was afraid not getting it fixed would leave me more susceptible to more injury by allowing unnatural movement of the knee. I imagine everyone's ACL tear happens a bit differently. I bent my knee backwards....hurt like a sonofabitch. Couldn't imagine continuing to ride. I pulled off the track immediately. I did race the next weekend with a brace, even though there was still swelling. Still hurt. If Stew raced through it....shit, tough kid.

I bent my elbow backwards, tore every ligament and took me 3 months of rehab. Most painful thing i ever experienced.
Bending a knee backwards sounds even worse, i had it twisted sideways with a kneecap out of it's place as a result. That was painful enough... Seeing guy's like Poto going down and getting back up to hop off the track proves guys like him are tough as nails. The common person would be laying on their back, screaming like all hell broke lose.

i got this little problem, my bones won't break... I always tear of ligaments... My doctor advised me more then once to break a bone instead of screwing joints up.

Every ACL injury is different (if that's the case here). My right one is still torn from Anaheim 2004 and is manageable with no real pain. My left one from the Bubba incident in 2011 was pure garbage and never really got any better until post surgery. I was surprised he was able to ride if it is in fact torn. It took me 2 weeks or so to be able to ride at all, just from the instability, swelling and pain from the initial trauma. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Ask JT Money about riding out a season with a torn ACL.

I have destroyed both ACL's, left in '97 and the right in '02. Both times, as JT said, the instability and pain, even after getting them drained multiple times, was riding prohibitive for a couple weeks or so.

I sure as hell wouldn't have been able to kick start a 450F the same day.

You can't honestly tell from that, he seems pretty tough and I think acting it all out may be a stretch. I tore my ACL before my regional this year, and man, the pain with that initial pop is excruciating. Went home, let the swelling go down and laid on the couch for 5 days. The day I left for my regional I went to the doctor and asked what he thought it was, he did the standard "ACL" twisting test and said it looked okay, if I could take the pain, go for it. Raced the regional and somehow got through it. I couldn't run, and could hardly ride my road bike after that so my training/stamina went to crap. Three weeks prior to LL, my knee is actually feeling pretty good; end of a practice day I land off a small tabletop just fine, and bam, there it goes again. It had a fiery sensation and I thought I was going to get sick to my stomach. Laid on the couch until LL and somehow got through the week at about 70 percent, until my last moto when I caught my foot in a rut and felt my meniscus tear. Turns out my ACL was shredded and I had surgery on the 28th of August.

James could do it, but in no way would he be 100 percent. Everything suffers, he has to become aware of his foot placement when hitting corners, over jumping/underjumping, as well as his off the bike training. If his ACL is torn I think he would be best to have surgery soon, but it's all in what he wants to accomplish. Hope he is alright though.

Honestly, I think the bad limp was to back up his injury claim. If i was him, and the whole coverage was about how my knee was messed up and i went out there and got 8th, I wouldn't hop off my bike and walk into the trailer on my own if there were fans and cameras around. I'm a huge fan but, the guy was kicking his bike multiple times on the gate. Maybe I'm just in denial that he'll be out with injury already.

Just looking at the way both RV and Reed hobbled off the track last year when they tore their ACLs, I would have to say James doesn't have the same thing. The other 2 guys couldn't even put pressure on theirs while walking, but James put full body weight on his stepping into the truck. I'm not saying he's faking it, but I doubt it's a torn ACL (or I hope any way).
Yeah, I'd be surprised if it was a complete tear. I've unfortunately had both a partial tear and a complete tear (resulting in an ACL replacement surgery) and both hurt pretty good; So much so, in the case of the complete tear, that my leg swelled up and went stiff to the point of not being able to bend it or put much weight on it (certainly not enough to kick a kickstart). I know there is quite a difference between average joe's like us and premiere athletes such as James... however, based on what we saw from A1, I'd be very surprised that he completely tore his ACL. Let's hope that an excuse-free, race-ready James returns to SX this weekend.

Faking??? No way is he faking. These guys don't want to show weakness or injury.

He is a warrior for going out and getting a top 10 with one good leg.

About the pain and James being able to kickstart his bike...I heard there is this new invention called "painkiller" that reduces pain...

I hurt my knee a few years ago and the Doc said he was "100%" sure my ACL was done. MRI came back and sure enough, knee was perfectly fine, albeit a little sprained. Let's wait and see what the MRI results are before jumping to conclusions.

I'm no doctor, but my best guess is a sprained MCL/ACL. Those can vary from being fine at Phoenix to lingering for over a month. Hopefully, it's something that is a quick recovery. Either way, riding will be minimal until it's 100%.

If it is something serious, I would rather him get it fixed and be 100% for the outdoors.
