Well, after watching the SX preview show, I hadn't realized how close JS and Reed were to RC in SX wins. Do you all think JS is going to match or pass RC this season. Possible, but to pass he'll need 5 and I can't see that happening with this deep of a field. Reed, I'll bet won't pass it this season and this may be his last. However, with JS having a two year deal, he may very well pass RC by next year. On the other hand, MC's record is gonna be safe for some time to come.
Stewart is at 44 and Reed is at 41.
Ricky CARMICHAEL 48
James Stewart 44
Chad REED 41
I think RC is safe this year.

I say RC is safe this year. James is unreal fast but I think the other top 5 riders are just as fast as him now. I don't think James can mentally handle having to battle for wins.
2010 Stewart had 1 win (RV 7)
2011 Stewart had 5 wins (RV 6)
2012 Stewart had 2 wins (RV 9)
BUT.....I'm pulling for James to do really well this season. And I bet we see a super fast and comfortable James on that Suzuki as well. "IF" he can keep it on two wheels.......I think this will be his best year in a long time.
In a minute some people are going to say he's the favorite to win the championship ....
James is getting worse and worse every year. 2009 was his last good year. In 2011 he won some but crashed a lot! 2012 was even worse ... And if you think it's the yamaha fault, than what happened during the outdoors on a suzuki? Indeed ...
However, logic doesn't count in the world of the vitards ...
Pit Row
In Seattle in '09 Stewart got a shit start and was coming through traffic when RV got the fast lap on him. Alessi actually had a substantially faster fastest lap than Ryan that race (!), and I don't think anyone thought that was Mike "announcing himself to the world." In Vegas Stewart was riding cautiously, bringing the title home. Reed also had a faster lap than Stewart that night, as he did several other races throughout the year as well, so it wasn't exactly unheard of. I'm telling you guys, Carmichael would've gotten his butt handed to him all year by those two dudes.
I agree it won't be easy for anyone to get 5 or more wins, although RV definitely has the best shot. The Stewzuki combo could potentially render James faster and more comfortable than he was in 2011, in which he won 5 races and crashed with the lead in 5 more. If this happens, the JS/RV showdown will be epic. On the other side of the coin, like you said, Cook, I can't see the Suzuki just glossing over ALL JS's problems. His wreck at Houston this year was a really nasty piece of work, and looked like a Stewart problem more than a Yamaha problem. Ditto his (second) Unadilla crash - he was just plainly over his head through that section.
In conclusion, it was obvious enough after only the first round this year that it was gonna be a looong season for Stewart, so I guess we'll see what's what soon enough.
Before that I think most guys didnt believe they could do it RV gave confidence to all kinds of guys and I believe that can make the difference-
RD came in next year and was right there damn near spanked him a1 2010 until he freaked out and started tightening up-
He was hauling on the zook but RD was all over him and closing in on him by 1/2 a second when he hit the colorado dirt.
The edge and or laws of physics were initially pushed by James, but now the others are braking just as late, gassing just as long scrubbing just as hard and able to do it over and over for 20 this is why they are landing on their head soo much because they have all pushed sooo hard to the edge.
Im not a hater but Iam not a delusional lover either saying it's gonna be easy for him he will not have 5 tenths a lap like the old days, thats a fact, what does it mean for championship, win goals? we will soon see- I think good starts willl equal wins and mean less hooligans to dick around with while riding an edge-
yeah, for sure RV was on a mission at Vegas. But, watching the video, Stewart's "winner's lead" was about 1.7 seconds at its greatest, halfway through the first lap, right before RV passed into 2nd started reeling him in. Ryan got up behind him and pressured (a probably very nervous) Stewart into trying to jump the quad (or huge triple) on the second lap, which he cased, resulting in the pass, and RV set sail from there. It looked like James resigned completely after the pass.
I'm not sure all the riders saw what Villopoto did as a breakthrough; as racerss they're probably well aware of Vegas championship jitters, just like they know about A1 jitters. If anything I'd say it was Dungey plus Stewart's injury in '10. He tried to race the round after he broke his wrist and ended up being beaten by Dungey and Hill, then pulled out. Then he came back for outdoors and Dungey smothered him. I think that's when James Stewart lost his bite, officially.
Like you said, starts are huge. Stewart had 'em last year and didn't this one. I wanna say the only two good starts he got he turned into wins, but I might be getting ahead of myself with that stat. Since starts are a matter of confidence, too, it could be that James just didn't have the confidence to holeshot. On the right bike, starts could come back. They seemed to outdoors, at least.
