x2. As a member of a privateerteam in mid 80s you experienced some riders that got penaltys for Peds in Europe. Nice guys, young and just wanted to make it. I've seen druged riders and also heard scary stories from other friends/teammembers about their riders as well. I've personally witness 2 x-times worldchamps running to their buses and flee from the track, laying flat on the floor when they searched them for tests. (Those guys where Europes RJ and JS back then) We knew back then exactly what doctor/s you could go to with injuries and even did so. They offered you help to comeback faster and stronger than ever if you needed that.Just som "complementshots" a couple of times No problems at all.... Do i have to tell you the waitingroom was frequently visited with cyclists? "My" rider choosed to NOT do that! He said; if i do that and win. How the hell can i ever sit after my racedays over and watch my trophies and feel true satisfaction? I would forever know i'd cheat? I'd rather be at last place and knowing i wasn't better but i tried the best i could. Why in hell do you guys think that have changed? Don't you ever call me naive......please? A cheater is always a cheater, His/her whole life in my opinion. It doesn't change after 15 years like some of you guys think?

I also truly belive that many many champs was clean and just had the extra talent and drive. Of course not everybody cheating. But when a guy laps everyone else like they doesn't train. Or winning too easy. I start thinking wtf? Don't you?

As mentioned above, maybe its Jeff Spencer you should be focussing on. How many top mx riders has he worked with? This quote from Lance is very worrying-

"Jeff is part Doctor, part guru, part medicine man....we believed Jeff could fix all of our problems....while he fixed us physically, he also fixed us mentally....If you judged the most important man on the Postal team by the foot traffic in and out his door, then it was Jeff. Without him, we knew we'd never make it to Paris.

He (Ricky #4) has always admired Lance Armstrong, and he can get an idea of the type of suffering he goes through and therefore has a huge respect for that profession. When he starts to think he is really suffering, I (Aldon Baker) can always pull out one of my training logs from ‘98 and ‘99 and show him there is a whole other dimension to suffering.

So he made training logs for Lance Armstrong not?
Perhaps NOT. No where does he say he is keeping logs for Lance he's only talking about "logs" could be anybodys. Could very well be his own if you had any clue of his history. Why are you trying stir shit up? Why do you always seem so insecure? Your worse than the USADA. Your reputation suits you. Pathetic!!

Jeff Spencer RacerX Interview

From what you have learned along the way in cycling and the sports, do you feel that the knowledge and insight that you possess puts you ahead of the game in motocross?

Yes, 100 percent. I don’t really care if people know what I’m doing because it’s always going to be different the following year because the most successful element in an athlete’s career is how well they develop and how well they adapt to their existing conditions.

The reason why we won eight consecutive Tour de France victories was that we were always reinventing a new system that was current for real-time needs. For me, that’s the most important thing that I always look towards. I am building my arsenal of knowledge and information and my tool kit. We’re continually investigating and implementing revolutionary new technologies and ways of remaining a consistent top performer and maintaining a competitive edge.

I get what you're saying, but the "everybody was doing it" reasoning is a poor one in any instance. It doesn't work in baseball or in the NFL, cycling isn't getting a pass either. PED's, like you said earlier, can be good when used in moderation. Some help the body heal quicker (a competitive advantage) and some, like EPO, help build endurance and physical strength (competitive advantage). And then there's those performance enhancers that we don't know about yet...(see what I did there?)

Cheating is cheating no matter how you slice it.

i guess my issue is singling out one guy in a corrupt sport, where an "enhanced" cyclist wins every year. Dont get me started on football. The guys now are a good 40lbs heavier than when there was NO drug testing, so draw your own conclusions. I've been weight training for a good 15yrs and I can tell you a guy with 240lbs of lean muscle is juiced out of his tree. That's not even a big guy in the NFL, that's the avg now. You want to talk about abusers, look at the NFL. If any rider's are using , it's in tiny, tiny amounts. I'm not saying it's right or that it's not cheating but it's not making little Johnny a champion when he wouldnt be otherwise
Biggest I ever got was 225lbs at 6 foot tall in 2011. My diet and lifting was perfect but I just plain stopped growing. Trying to push beyond my limits in training only led to all kinds of nagging injuries. Bet if I juiced though I could hit 240.

Jeff Spencer does have a cycling background...he was an Olympic cyclist '72. I know that Spencer is into some interesting therapies. Frequencies, Lasers, out of box Mr. Miyagi stuff. Doping isn't part of his tool box.

I read the USADA paper and found it to be quite reveling.

1. It names all the players and Aldon's name didn't make it. Also the quack chiro Spenser didn't make it either which bums me out because I was hoping to bust him, but what it does mean is that Spencer had no major role in Armstrong's success that Spencer claims he had. I always found it amusing how Spenser would run around the SX pits with Nike U.S. Postal garb and not correct the media when they would state he was Armstrong's trainer.

2. The majority of cyclists would pay 15K per year for Dr. Ferrari's, who is considered the king of doping, services while Armstrong sometimes paid 100k.
a. Easily doable by top MX/SX riders.

3. One of the recommendations by Armstrong to avoid testing positive was to delay testing and so Armstrong would seek out very remote locations as to provide more lead time to prepare for test or to avoid testing all together.
a. This is also doable by top MX/SX riders

The following is cited from www.sportsscientists.com

A common argument that keeps coming up from supporters is that there is no "evidence" to support the sanction, or cries that the information provided by USADA hardly passed for evidence. This is amusing since witness testimony contributes to the body of evidence in legal cases, so I don't think that argument really works.

But more importantly, we have to be clear that USADA did not evaluate whether or not Armstrong broke a law. Instead, they evaluated whether or not he broke a rule, specifically as outlined in the rule books for cycling and triathlon during the years in question.

And for anyone whose doping paradigm is still stuck in last century, sanctioning athletes in the absence of an "analytical finding" is entirely acceptable, and in this case Armstrong is just another athlete on the growing list of those who have in fact been sanctioned without ever testing positive (officially).

So don't bemoan the process. If you want to support him as a cancer survivor, please do. By some accounts it's a near miracle he survived such an advanced case of cancer that had spread throughout his body. But it has now become patently obvious that at least since 1998, all of his cycling success was achieved by breaking the rules. Was the era fraught with doping? Absolutely, and the UCI more than anyone else is to blame for t hat. But that does not make it ok that anyone broke the rules. And worse, he and his foundation benefited immensely as a direct result of his sporting success, which was fraudulent. His net worth is estimated upwards of $125 million, and does anyone reading think it would be that high had he not won seven tours?

or how about his "grounding" blanket and "grounding" rods would have rider bury into the ground so as to recoup the energy from the earth.

Don't forget the food annihilator where in which a person was supposed to put this cover over any food item and it would take away any and all "bad" properties making the food non hazardous.

The following link should give you an idea into Spenser's tool box. He gets paid to endorse this product, talks it up like it's some 2020 b.s. and when found out it can kill you he states his claims where made under the stress of being up all night. What a quack.

For anybody that would like some truly eye opening information on the subject of PED's and blood doping take some time and listen to the god father of it, Victor Conte on The Joe Rogan podcast. Very candid conversation about the situation of testing and the history of PED's..

Listened to this podcast the same day I found this thread; it's a very interesting listen.

He was the man behind the BALCO scandal for those who are unfamiliar. This candid interview is VERY relevant and is a good picture of what a mess the system is.

Thanks for posting the links, lurked here for a few years and for sure a posting rookie. I've listened to it a couple of times and also downloaded the 9.79 Project documentary looking forward to checking it out... Something that I've taken from trying to become knowledgeable about this is that on the professional sports level including motocross to see the gains that are talked about it takes a very specialized regiment of PED's. Not " Hey in gonna bang some Deca and drop lap times". If these practices are applied to motocross it would take somebody with deep scientific knowledge and also experience with athletes as well as an understanding of what the rigors of MX are and how the could be eased..

Someone a bit like Aldon Baker or Jeff Spencer you mean...?

Im not suggesting they promote the use of PEDs in their training regimes, but in light of recent revelations its hard to shut out the sound of that muffled alarm bell ringing in the distance.

225 somewhat lean? If you hit 225 without gear, depending on how much you took, you would be 250-260lbs easy.

Can't believe that so many people think doping is fine. It's not only unfair, it's highly dangerous for the athlete, even when done right. It's highly expensive as well to do it with the best and safest products, the one you don't get caught with, so the argument saying "as long as everybody's doing it" is worthless.

Regarding MX, DV said on the french board that he when he was racing in the Us, he knew some top riders who were doing it, and that back then it was some industry guy who was crossig the Mexican border to go get the stuff. That was prob the cheap way to do it.

Seriously, you guys have waited for this Armstrong thing to have doubts on Aldon Baker? Haven't you noticed that every single one of his riders suddenly became uber fit, and finishes the moto twice as fast as anybody else? Starting with RC in 2000, when he came to the Nations in St Jean, he had only been working with Aldon for a few months, and was a totally new athlete. He wasn't even sweating on podiums after the races!

Im not sure you still can call this speculation when things have been so obvious for so long...

^ Ignorance is bliss for many.

I'm not going to accuse anybody of anything, but there are definitely moto athletes using PEDs. It will all come to light eventually.
10/24/2012 4:02pm
Few years ago Steve Cox wrote a column in racerx saying that PED were good for the sport... That's when i started to wonder not only about the guy, but also about the overall blindness of the mx community.
