"Team USA was fast enough to win, but they crashed, got stuck in fences and had wheels unravel. In the past it was the American team that didn’t make mistakes, while the others did. This time the forced errors fell on Dungey, Baggett and Barcia."

I know losing is hard, but c'mon... Did they actually watch the race? As in, were their eyes open during the races?
I agree fearo

That was a big talking point on the dmxs show
Even Steve matthes said : even the media is biased you can't take everything they write seriously

The American media will be pro USA

And the media from Europe will be pro GP

now he will have to say" these are the fastest riders in the world except in sand"Woohoo

Emig is as biased as they come, looks to me like the sooo fit americans were tongues out after 15 min at lommel.
We will cede motocross raced in sand to, for 2012, Germany and Belgium. If you don't live in either of those countries you don't have a lot to gloat about. But, yeah, I don't blame you for still grinding your axe because of CP's tire in 2011. Wink

Exaclty Jamma, Malin just likes to show to the American view is wrong I think and that the GP riders are just as good. Some people here don't even understand the crucial difference in the arguements.

Don't forget Malin had to go through his GP career listening to the same nonsense about the superior AMA when he was a rider.

From the bits i've seen it seems that emig and Ralf didn't know too much about the GP riders and just talked about the Americans unless info about the others came up on their screen. You would have thought they would have followed the GP series and known it inside out -It is the World Championship after all. Or at least done more research, it is their job after all.

Maybe now Emig will stop lying to America by saying that Dungey is the best in the world and the AMA series has all the best riders in the world lol

This lack of knowledge is probably why guys like Emig think the AMA is superior... they just don't know as much about the GPs, it gets very limilted exposure in the US even in the Magazines and USA don't have the same respect for it as the rest of the world. He maybe didn't know that the GP guys do much more riding at a GP than the US guys do at an AMA round.

The team was fast enough to put together the scores to win the event. I would disagree with the errors being forced; the mistakes they made were their own.

It may have to do with the fact that the US has won 21 of 22 events that Decoster has managed. We did win there in 81 so not impossible. Jeff has been there and is qualified to judge riders and he has won at the MXoN as well. So the question is, why all the drama? It's not bias, as much as it is disappointment, we got beat. There were a few times we won with other countries having mechanicals and crashes on the last moto, but this time we got beat, plain and simple. Unless youre the kind that doesn't care about much, you will say what's on your mind and not care what people think. I just don't get all the drama! Emig was a badass in his day, and has professionally earned his point of view.

For such a badass racer in his day, Emig seems to know very little about the WORLDWIDE sport of motocross. For any non moto fans watching on CBS, Emig sure made himself sound like an idiot. There's nothing wrong with well advised professional opinion, but Emig quite frankly needs to wake up and smell the coffee and realise that there are fast riders outside the USA.
There are fast riders outside the USA? What is this GP thing you keep talking about? Is it a hare scramble series or maybe a beach race? I thought USA was the only country that had MX. I learn something new everyday from the Euro posters. Thanks guys for setting Emig straight too, after all he never raced pro or did he?

Yo mohammed, the VitalMX board name is misleading.

It's really VitalSX, so please feel free not to follow this board.

Good luck with your input at a new MX board.

You have really become an embarrassment to those who love the sport.

Emig has always been very USA-centric, especially when it comes to the MXDN.

Malin makes his little comments, but he tempers it with other comments giving the Americans their due. Malin vs. Chuck Sun was hilarious. I see most of the Euro bluster as reaction to the US bluster, but this back-and-forth will never end.

The US has to realize you can't walk around saying you are gonna smoke everybody, then get smoked, and then expect everybody to just forget about the smack talk.

Not to hijack too badly, but anybody know the meaning of the cartoon painted on Marnick Bervoets' helmet shown on the 1994 MXDN video posted upthread?

I think he had 5 or so wins that year. McGrath I think got a flat or had a mechanical problem while leading one of the races, and those points lost maybe decided it? Not sure.

You haven’t had the best luck at Motocross des Nations, mostly crashes, over the years. You’ve got to be pretty pumped that you have finally shown "Hey, I’m just as fast as these guys."

Yeah, for sure. The first time I came to America, Budds Creek, there were a lot of boards making fun of me, "Where was Cairoli" and stuff like this. I never talk bad about America. I think America has the best overall riders. It’s also the biggest country, so if Barcia is injured or Stewart is injured, they can pick another one that is almost just as good. In Italy, with Phillipheart’s injury, we don’t have so much choice. I think it was good. A fifth overall for Italy, it’s okay. I think we could have finished third. Maybe next year, we’ll have more luck.

Maybe Roczens lack of fitness this summer gave Emig the impression as well.....wasn't it the "heat" that we are using as an excuse for Ken?
You've read abit too much into the Cairoli interview - he was merely suggesting America, as a country, in relation to the MXdN, has the better riders!

That's correct, it was Charlotte supercross.

To be fair to Jeff, Jeremy didn't ride the last round in Las Vegas that well either and left many points on the track in the mud-fest of Dallas. But yeah that flat was really costly. He also had another costly mechanical in the year but I can't quite remember what it was now.

Having raced and ridden in Europe plenty, I have never doubted the level of riders in the GP series. But honestly, some guys on this board, namely Mohammed and a few others, I think are embarrassing even to the GP riders. If you think that SX is such a disgrace that you refuse to even follow it, that merely solidifies my presumption of your thought processes. Mostly I just shake my head at the ridiculous things you write.

Malin was a great rider, but are you going to compare British National titles(I'm assuming that's what he won) To Emig's 3 AMA National titles plus his SX title? And Emig has been on some winning MXdN teams. That MXdN is really what Malin is best known for. This is besides the original intent of the thread but I just think it's funny people hang their hat on this one race. Emig has clearly had the better career.

I was at the MXdN at Lommel, and it was sick! Just re-watched CBS's coverage of the racing, and all in all I was happy enough.

Although I did find Emig was expecting the Americans to absolutely walk it, then gradually had to eat a bit of humble pie. He constantly was talking how the American riders were far fitter that the GP riders, and how they would come through towards the end of the races. He made the GP riders sound like semi-professionals. On what evidence does he base these assumptions? GP riders race for longer and on rougher more technical tracks, and if anything it was the Americans who were tiring.

He said he believed that the Americans were fitter due to racing supercross - REALLY? Supercross is in essence a sprint, with a 16/17min main event. For any of the guys on the gate, fitness should not be an issue; a professional MX/SX rider should be able to go at ~90% consistently over a relatively short SX main event, no bother. Why should this provide them with the strength and fitness advantage over the GP riders in a race that is upwards of 35mins?

And before anyone decides to turn this into a US vs. GP debate, I am solely talking about Emig's rather patronising comments.
" On what evidence does he base these assumptions? GP riders race for longer and on rougher more technical tracks,"

That Bagget would come from behind at the end of the moto and pass the world champ Roczen. Barcia and Tomac both pass him after the middle of the moto. So I would call that evidence. It may not be good evidence and may be debatable but he has a point, at least in the 250 class. Whether it is true or not I am not sure but it sure points to the Americans are in better shape. Or it points to Roczen not being as fast.
