Will the 450Fs go the way of the 500 2strokes

Edited Date/Time 9/14/2012 6:36am
With the 250Fs posting quicker times than the 450Fs at many tracks & some people attribute the high injury rate to them. Will the 450Fs be relegated out of MX/SX compertition in the near future (3-5 years)

In the near future, there will be no cc class structure. It will be premier class and support class. Both being a ring-what-you-bring format. It will all be 250-350cc two-strokes, and some 300-400cc four-strokes. THen, it will get real quiet, with the coming battery-powered machines taking over.

there's probably a better chance of you winning a spelling bee, especially if they pop the word "compertition".

Well the 350 wasn't enough and a 500 would be to much, so we wait for a manufacturer to put out a 400 cc and see how well it does in AMA racing and how the masses perceive it, if it flops the 450 stays, it it's a hit then yeah.....

I don't think the 450 is going anywhere man.

What kind of fucked up formula will the AMA come up with to fit the electric bike into a class?

9 golf cart battery electric bikes are allowed to run in the 450 class, since they won't be able to double the displacement they'll double the amount of batteries allowed Smile

The 450f is a fast but very rideable bike. A 500cc 2 stoke is an untamed beast that will tear your arms out. You can't really compare the two.

you can say this is a stupid post of fishing or whatever,

i'll take the heat.

but bring back 2 strokes. time and time again...

better racing, better handling, more exciting, cheaper for the general public to ride..... alot of upsides to the simplicity of it all

I'm not really trying to compare them. Just asking the question if in the future 250Fs, or a lower capacity than 450cc, will be the premier class in SX/MX racing.
If the 250Fs are doing faster lap times then maybe we should have the best riders on them.
The AMA Lites were a lot more entertaining this past season.

The 250f's will never be the premier class.

When the 125's and 250 2 strokes ran. Sometimes the 125's lap times matched the 250's also.

It was pretty obvious dungey had more in the tank. He just didn't have anyone to push him, and in contrast the lites guys were battling with each other from start to finish pushing each other faster.

Unless they're racing on the same track at the same time against the same riders. You are comparing apples to oranges.

I sure as hell hope not... I believe there should be more to riding than pinning the throttle and shifting (not to mention spending way to much money on motor mods).

The whole sport is going to go the way of the 500 2 strokes if this keeps up.

The displacement ruling for the LONGEST time in pro racing for four-strokes was 360cc. I believe it was 1995 or so, when they started letting Lance Smail race that huge 4-stroke that they lifted that.

If anything, I could see them bringing the 360cc rule back. I believe it was 185cc for the little bikes.

How many times do we have to go through this... 125s and 250f have like lap times because they have to keep their momentum up in the corners due to less HP/torque. It's always been this way... I don't get the argument?

Nah, they will stay until 2-strokes aren't allowed in AMA racing (since a 250 2-stroke is a threat to anything below a 450). Then Honda will tell the AMA what they will run, and poof, the rules will change.

track conditions people. the track changes moto to moto and lap to lap. THats what makes racing interesting, its never the same. if the best riders were on 250s the ones who had just moved up i.e tickle, would lay a whooping on the big boys.

Its like in snowcross, the Semi-Pro guys run right after the track is groomed, then the pros go, the semi pros, especially the mods, tear up the track like crazy and that slows down the Pros, as a result the lap times are much closer than what they really should be. The reason i used a snowcross reference is that the change in the track is much more dramatic than in moto, but the principle is the same, although in the opposite way, the 450 riders get a pretty fresh track, not many ruts etc, the 250s then go out and ride the beautiful ruts the 450s made through the moto and as their moto continues the track improves more. when the second motos go out the track is much rougher and it slows down the lap times. the track is usually at its fastest during the 1st 250 and WMX motos.

you also have to consider the track grooming between motos, if the organizers make one mistake like too much water the 450s go out and ride in the wet dirt and by doing so dry it out. you see it every weekend at local events with 20+ classes. the
