Didn't MXA do a 250F vs. 250T test, and the result of looking at all the laps everywhere by everybody was that speed is ultimately determined by rider skill, not engine type? That everyone has a self-imposed "speed ceiling" and it's more a question of which machine helps you run consistently close to that ceiling, or is more fun to push toward that ceiling? Is Ricky Renner going about the same speed relative to the other National-level riders, but having more fun on the 125? One race is too small a sample, but . . .
Here are his finishes from last year, courtesy of the Racer X Vault:
30 Hangtown
24 Freestone
23 High Point
24 Budds Creek
22 Thunder Valley
33 Red Bud
38 Millville
30 Washougal
37 Unadilla
38 Pala
Looks like that 125 held him back nearly as much as the 250F did at Millville, Unadilla, and Pala.
Actually, what you see last year looks like a privateer having a better half of the season on one side of the country than the other: it's a long way to travel and a long season. A 125 two-stroke seems unlikely to change that, other than making it cheaper, and making it more fun if you're finishing about the same but hearing a lot more cheering live and online.
As for finishing 34th: From the fence at Freestone, it looked to me like every 250F rider who made the program and didn't have mechanical problems was on it the whole way, both motos: the difference was mainly in who had better lines and better setup. The backmarkers were bashing into bumps and kicking around, but they weren't shutting off. The guys were fighting as hard over 25th place as the ones up front were fighting over 5th, and if you closed your eyes they sounded the same. I don't think TV conveys that well at all.
we all wanna see yer bullshitten ass in front of one of the many houses you own.
holy fuck...where do these jackoffs come from?
This is one of the best bikes you can buy,now go qualify. None of them could come within 5 seconds of qualifying.
Oh and Wozney,,,We need to see that vid.
Thanks for the short, but sweet, vid. Much appreciated!
I feel sorry for your employees. Having a dumb ass, arrogant boss sucks.
I agree, assanine comments, just qualifying is a big feat for any racer.
Pit Row
We just need the "powers to be" to find some wisdom and let all 250's run in the 250 class.
Thank you
He ended up the 34th fastest 250 rider in the country on the weekend! Nice result no matter what bike he was on
when i raced last century there were maybe 100-120 riders and three qualifiers just to make the starting 40 man lineup. so no...renner beat way more than just 4 dudes i'd say.
Great job Ricky! Just qualifying is a notable achievement, let alone on an outdated and out gunned 2 stroke!
I hope you race a few more on the 2 stroke to raise a few more eyebrows and if nothing else, keep doing it for fun.
For Mulberry Lyle.
