Hell yeah Renner! The 4-stroke is a step back, in the not-too-far future, they will be outdated once again.(I hope)

Awesome job Ricky. A 125 is what got me hooked on riding. I hope they are still around when my kids are old enough. I learned so much on that bike, you actually need some skill to go fast. Its the perfect step up for kids coming off of an 85.

Not hating on Renner. Actually know he would have done much better on a 4 stroke.
Last year at Red Bud he finished 33rd overall on a 4 stroke. This year he finished 34th on the 125. If that's what you call "much better," you might be missing out on a career in politics. Wink

Didn't MXA do a 250F vs. 250T test, and the result of looking at all the laps everywhere by everybody was that speed is ultimately determined by rider skill, not engine type? That everyone has a self-imposed "speed ceiling" and it's more a question of which machine helps you run consistently close to that ceiling, or is more fun to push toward that ceiling? Is Ricky Renner going about the same speed relative to the other National-level riders, but having more fun on the 125? One race is too small a sample, but . . .

Here are his finishes from last year, courtesy of the Racer X Vault:

30 Hangtown
24 Freestone
23 High Point
24 Budds Creek
22 Thunder Valley
33 Red Bud
38 Millville
30 Washougal
37 Unadilla
38 Pala

Looks like that 125 held him back nearly as much as the 250F did at Millville, Unadilla, and Pala. Wink

Actually, what you see last year looks like a privateer having a better half of the season on one side of the country than the other: it's a long way to travel and a long season. A 125 two-stroke seems unlikely to change that, other than making it cheaper, and making it more fun if you're finishing about the same but hearing a lot more cheering live and online.

As for finishing 34th: From the fence at Freestone, it looked to me like every 250F rider who made the program and didn't have mechanical problems was on it the whole way, both motos: the difference was mainly in who had better lines and better setup. The backmarkers were bashing into bumps and kicking around, but they weren't shutting off. The guys were fighting as hard over 25th place as the ones up front were fighting over 5th, and if you closed your eyes they sounded the same. I don't think TV conveys that well at all.

Good job Ricky. I cant believe you did it on a 125 considering what those 250f's are like out there. I find it funny when someone discredits what this guy did on a 125 because I would bet $500 that if you took Blake Baggett's, or Barcia's bike and gave it to anybody in this thread that's knocking Ricky's accomplishment's and said.
This is one of the best bikes you can buy,now go qualify. None of them could come within 5 seconds of qualifying.

Oh and Wozney,,,We need to see that vid.Woohoo

We were there; the 125 sound was great to hear. Renner was one of the most cheered riders there and at no time was he in the way as a lapper. Great job...

Man that is music to my ears. I woulda laughed if you put some music to the vid and drowned out the sound of the 125. You probably wouldn't laugh though; you'd be a hunted man...lol.

Thanks for the short, but sweet, vid. Much appreciated!

You forget that this is 36th place within the ranks of the best pros, and there are thousands of riders slower than him who can't run anywhere near that speed (of which I'm sure you're one...if you even ride at all).

I feel sorry for your employees. Having a dumb ass, arrogant boss sucks.

Who exactly is Renner's boss anyway? Isn't he doing this all by himself? Can he fire himself? I guess so.

I agree, assanine comments, just qualifying is a big feat for any racer.

Great video Matt, loved the sound of the bike and the crowd cheering him on! Red Bud was loving Renners 2 stroke style, Thanks for the vid.

Definitely no need to bring the dude down. He went out there and qualified straight out of practice which is damn good on any machine let alone an extremely under powered 125...sorry 2 stoke guys but those things are turds.

Calling a 125 a turd is just verifying a 250F is a double sized steaming pile.Wink

Let us hope not...........

We just need the "powers to be" to find some wisdom and let all 250's run in the 250 class.

Nice ride, and you got WAY more exposure (and more new fans) for this ride than any of the other 30 (actually more like 35) riders in front of you. Outside the top 5-10 riders, no one notices. Except when you decide to think outside the box.

Thank you

Yep 36th fastest out of the 40 who qualified does not look great on paper, but 36th out of the 10,000 to 100,000s (Sorry I am an Aussie with no idea how many people race in the US lol) of thousands that race MX in the small bore class across America is pretty dam good if you ask me!

He ended up the 34th fastest 250 rider in the country on the weekend! Nice result no matter what bike he was on

on race day there is more than 40 right?

when i raced last century there were maybe 100-120 riders and three qualifiers just to make the starting 40 man lineup. so no...renner beat way more than just 4 dudes i'd say.

The only thing I don't like is that I wasn't there to see (and hear) it in person!

Great job Ricky! Just qualifying is a notable achievement, let alone on an outdated and out gunned 2 stroke!
I hope you race a few more on the 2 stroke to raise a few more eyebrows and if nothing else, keep doing it for fun.
7/9/2012 6:14am
there were 80 "250" class entries, he beat out 44 250f's in qualifying and a total of 46 overall for the day

Ricky, I'm sure you pay no attention to the non-riding toolsheds on here but keep doing the damn thing.

For Mulberry Lyle.
