I was reading online about a snafu where the AMA had removed former Yamaha road racing tuner "Knobby Clark" from the 2012 AMA Hall of Fame nominee's. Someone posted it was because he allegedly pleased guilty to receiving some stolen parts
when working for Team Obselete in vintage road racing.

Taking that AMA rationale on board, will they ever nominate and accept James Stewart into the AMA Hall of Fame in the future?, after his run in with the law for impersonating a Police officer.
Please don't take this as a slight at James for his misdemenor, just wondering what the AMA's criteria will be on any future
nominee's who may have stepped over the line!

yes, of course. How could anyone think different? Most recognizable motocross racer ever, inventor of the Bubba scrub, had his own TV show, multi time champion, and once fastest man on the planet

Ask around, still the fastest man on the planet. Different than winning most titles. IMO (and some of my friends).

Isn't he also the only person to come back after almost 4 years and win his first moto on a new bike?

If he is isn't nominated it would not only be a shame , but a crime. By the time James is done with his career he'll go down as one of the best racers ever in this sport. Weather you like him or not doesn't matter.......the dude holds records and has changed the way some of the top rider ride their bikes. He isn't done yet , but I'm sure when he decides to hang up his boots , his records will overcome some of the guys in this sport in which we call "legends".

The logic in the OP is sound (assuming the given example is correct), then I remembered that consistency and the AMA don't go together, so yes he will.

I'm sure he will be as he has several different "accomplishments" worthy of the HoF.

No one has changed modern motocross more than 3 people IMO....Jeremy Mcgrath, Ricky Carmicheal, and James Stewart. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Stewie belongs in the hall. If there is some legal mumbo jumbo that can prevent him from getting nominated, then the AMA can change that rule when it comes time to nominate him.

Ask around? It's an opinion, who would I ask? Everyone has a different opinion, but one thing is for sure, he has to beat RV2 straight up if he wants to lay claim to that title. He's still a HOF and changed the face of motocross/supercross regardless. If they don't induct him the HOF would suffer.

Hey you guys have read this all wrong. I wasn't saying James didn't deserve to be in the AMA Hall of Fame, his accomplishments speak for themselves as one of the most gifted riders ever to sling a leg over the seat.
I was just questioning how the AMA could take a such a stance with one guy but perhaps overlook Jame's 2011 run in with the law for future nominee's.
As the "father of Supercross" Mike Goodwin is surely a candidate for the AMA HOF, but I don't think he's sitting on the edge of his prison cell bed waiting for the letter to drop through the hatch.Wink

Being convicted of murder is a little different than the misdemeanor charge James had.

Something like that won't even be remembered by that time in my opinion.

Of course he will.

He's one of two people to ever have a perfect season. In fact as it was pointed out, he almost had two perfect seasons (one in each class....almost).

I doubt the crime he committed will play a factor in it. He'll be in there, unless he bets on motocross.

But what that "Knobby Clark" guy did probably isn't a far cry from what Stewart did. And before the keyboard heroes here get their panties in a wad, I'm not saying it's enough to hold the AMA back from putting Stewart in their HOF.
