Bingo!!!

Fast forward ten years and we now have to flip through different TV channels, TV guides, and the internet to watch 1 round of MX? There is something wrong with that picture.

If core fans are getting frustrated and are having trouble following the action, then what f*cking hope in hell have we got of attracting new fans???

LIVE racing on TV isn't critical to the future of MX. Like somebody else already mentioned delay it and show it on one channel. Isn't Speed channel dedicated to motor sports? Let Fuel show all their UFC crap.

I appreciate what DC has done with the sport, I really do. But having 1 round of MX on 3 different channels/internet is just ridiculous on every level.

If I were DC, I'd hire Kenny Watson! Love him or hate him, the guy is so switched on with current marketing trends.

Hey, I agree with the whole splitting it up part is kind of dumb, but mx is a tough act to cover based on the way the 2 moto format works. It's tough to make that deal work on TV. Look at SX. Great coverage because it's easy to follow. 1 race, one winner.

Remember when they talked about changing the 2 motos to only 1 for the sake of TV? People went fucking ballistic!

"I know it's hard to get your head wrapped around, but it's the sport we have—two classes, two motos—and we're doing what we can to keep it that way and also show it live."

But no doubt all you desk jockeys could run things much better than DC.

Some of you sound like a bunch of spoiled little kids.
Wtf are you quoting me for? I'm not whining, Read my other posts...bitch.

Listen, I'm sure everyone has confidence in DC and the sincerity of his efforts for our sport, but this tv thing is frustrating no doubt. I have asked on several occasions why we can't get mx back on speed channel as most countries seem to get speed easier than most other channels. Fuel and NBC sports channels aren't easily attained outside of the US, and even in the US they don't seem that easy to get.

It's funny how some people just can't seem to figure out that no matter what network, or what format they use, not everyone world wide is going to get coverage, all the time, every time. What's so hard to understand?

This season, all I get are the first motos streamed on line. No TV coverage whatsoever because I don't have NBC Sports nor Fuel TV in my area. I watch the first motos, then spend the rest of the day riding or something, then I download the torrent files Sunday morning and enjoy at my leisure. It's a fuck of a lot less stressful than bitching and moaning about the lack of coverage every bloody Saturday lol.

If you want to see it bad enough, you'll find a way. No big deal.

U know what dogfood tastes like?, just like it smells, Delicious!!
I am as big of a moto fan as u will find, but i am not spending extra time to find
a damn race that theoretically should be all on one channel in succession.
all they need to televise anyway is the 250's, cause the 450 class isnt
providing what the fans would like to see, and that is the sports top riders
battling for a title and wins. We all know b4 the gate drops whats gonna happen.
Hey dumbass, I'm not trying to promote a good business model, I'm merely sharing what I personally do about the situation. It's not a big deal to me because the way I do it, I get my moto fix at my leisure. Sometimes I'm too busy to sit and watch live TV and I certainly don't have the time to sit and watch tv for 5 hours on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. REAL life is far more interesting and fun.

On a side note, you say you will not spend the extra 5 minutes to find a good download, but you have the time to sit for 5 hours watching live moto. Interesting

not to mention u want to call me out for watching 5 hours of moto, but

They have Cox in Nevada and Fuel and NBCSports is available.

Motocross will continue whether the people in this post complaining watch it or not.

If motocross was really in demand then people would all get direct TV and have the channels, But they don't, they would rather complain. If there was some real effort to having to watch motocross then I could see how people might "give up" but there is no effort, go buy direct tv. If someone is too cheap to do that, then motocross is not in demand. If enough people "give up" then .

lmao, lighten up Francis. Someone piss in your cornflakes this morning? And where did I claim any of what you say I did? All I said was it's easy to get a download of the races. Takes 5 minutes to find it and about 15 minutes to download. If you want to continue to be stressed out and whiny about coverage that is obviously available for anyone slightly more astute than a monkey then that's your deal. My original post in this thread was an attempt at helping folks like yourself, but you obviously don't want any help and are content to wallow in your own self pity, or are beyond help. Either way dosen't mean beans to me.

Maybe my (joking) assessment of you wasn't as far off as I originally thought. Take it easy, it's only a moto forum. Laughing

PS: I own 2 businesses, have 4 kids and 1 grandson, do countless hours of volunteer work in my community. I spend on average about 1/2 hour a day on here. No time for more.

I cant believe that you guys are this upset and no one has mentioned how retarded Jamie Bestwick and Jeff Emig sounded. I personally have no issue changing the channel a couple of times (I do it anytime there is a commercial on) Happy to have it live!!!

But the dumb stuff Emig says and the addition of Bestwick... wow just watched the majority of the moto with it muted... Bestwick wants it to be a demo derby and Emig thinks that stock suspension is as good as the PC stuff Tickel has.... with that logic why ever send your suspenders to Pro Circuit....???? WOW !!!!

Keep the motos live just change the guys in the booth

This is obviously much more complicated than a lot of us have the insight to grasp. I can see why its problematic to have the whole race live on one channel. Thats like 4+ hours of coverage, more including the dead time in-between motos & lunch break. Basically means taking over a TV channels listings for a full day...

you also got to remember channels buy content to attract viewers to their channels. The channels (usually) are commissioned by the service provider. Not sure who that is in the States, but in the UK, Sky TV prop up most channels with multi million, multi year deals. Most channels don't survive on advertising $$ alone like we assume. And Sky (for example) are in the business of selling subscriptions using their attractive portfolios of channels as bait, if you can watch the content you want to see online, no ones going to buy subs. I'm guessing thats the crux of the problem. Also why you can't easily, or legally watch shows like Game of Thrones on the web.

Also think the pirate feed bootleg dudes are being stingy this year! Last year I think we were spoilt with 2-3 bootlegged feeds. There always seemed to be a quality one on Justin.tv.... I'm guessing who ever set those up is too busy for it this year otherwise we'd have 2 x live motos with minimal hassle. Its funny, last year, some of the Justin.tv feeds were higher res and better quality than the official Fuel feeds.

yz, thats not true. No, I havent seen irs returns, but I have a VERY real and grounded knowledge of how much it costs per race to A. get a production crew (cameras, crew, broadcast trucks, ect) for each race B. what it costs to "buy time" on a network, ever a low tier like Fuel and C. what you can hope or expect to get back if you pull x in a rating.

I will bet anyone any amount of money they wish to lose that DC isnt making a damn dime off TV, or the nats. he makes his money from 2 tracks, and oh, he has this little magazine.

DC is alot of things, but a Youthstream Luongo (sp?) he isnt! I do think hes trying to do too much himself. he has help, but they dont do a thing unless he says so. hes spreading himself too thin and this is what happens, you get the broad strokes but the details get overlooked and lost.
If MXSports has to buy time on the networks, then why is there opposition to allowing a two moto pay per view format online? If MXSports is paying for the cameras, operators, announcers, and then to air the program on top of that, then why is there ANY opposition to an extra way to get the content out there?

If NBC Sports or Fuel TV had some form of internet broadcast I could easily use a vpn to spoof a US IP address and watch it there, but there is nothing provided to watch the second motos online. Not through hulu, netflicks, alli, nothing.

The most frustrating part is that we get such good coverage of the first motos. Then it's a major clusterfuck and you walk away with a foul taste in your mouth from the experience.

With more and more people dropping extra channels from their cable service (or dropping their cable services altogether) with the growing popularity of services like netflicks. It amazes me that MXSports has chosen to go with an obscure pair of channels that require not only cable or dish services, but extra channel packages on top of that. Outside the US? Good luck Chuck.

TV is going the way of the dinosaurs. Their delivery network is antiquated and it's quickly being replaced by the content owners using web based delivery networks. MXsports and their sponsors own the content and many of the people who they count as their fans are frustrated by the current delivery method, except for the online first half of the races. Seriously, I have hardly heard one complaint about the web broadcast other than it's only half the show. It's the obvious future of broadcasting.

A five dollar per race fee to watch it live provided through netflicks, iTunes, Hulu, Alli, or whatever would be a dream come true. Netflicks can push streaming content for about $.09 per HD movie (plus licensing costs). For a four hour live broadcast in HD you'd be looking at a cost per viewer of less than a quarter through netflicks. The show is already put together, the cameras are already in place. It's just a matter of getting it onto the damn screen. Quit letting the existing dinosaurs dictate the terms and look outside the box for a different way to deliver YOUR content. The demand seems to be there, what's lacking is the easy way for your viewers to watch the show. If Apple could turn a product that people were taking for FREE into the largest retail outlet of music in the world simply because people were willing to pay a small fee for an easier to use service that provided a consistant level of quality, then this years choice of broadcasting partners has proven to be a dismal failure. They've done nothing to provide easier access to the programming and are alienating all your non-US based viewers. Add to that the number of US based viewers who have dropped their cable or dish services and it starts to add up to a lot of frustrated fans.

Here's the thing. You can possibly fix the problem by getting it onto a better TV network with better worldwide coverage for next year. I can't say for sure whether or not I'll still have cable next year. I know for a fact if I do it will be a basic cable only package because the choices I have through other services is a better spend for my money than bucking up to watch advertising saturated television. I already watch 85% of my TV through some form of commercial free internet delivery already. That's a trend that is not going to reverse and I'm certainly not unique in that decision.

I wish I was in MXsport's shoes with a demand for my product that was being unfulfilled. Even if they went to a pay per view online broadcast for non-us viewers I'm sure they would see a fairly significant number of americans who would choose a reasonably priced easy to digest single outlet format over the current fragmented broadcast of today. To be able to do both and possibly gain more control over the broadcasting of their own content is an opportunity they've never had in the past. The time is ripe for content owners to wrestle the control back from the networks of their content. it's not the old days where getting onto a basic cable channel guaranteed a 10+ share of viewers because there was hardly any choice. Theres tons of choices out there and frankly I think that MXSports has made a poor one this year.

This trying to watch the second moto online is a gigantic waste of time.

In an age of being able to connect with anyone online and the crappy TV coverage (I'm not talking about the announcers) it's beyond me how this sport can't find a venue for it's fans to watch an entire event on the same channel or website around the world.

Billions have been made by giving the people what they want online and here we are having to try and sift through a multitude of different channels and websites to try and get an entire event in one easy to watch format.

I've been a participant of this sport for over 20 years and a fan for much longer. But I seriously give up. You win. I'm going to go mow the lawn and do all the other shit I should have been doing while I wasted my fucking time trying to tune into the one sport I wanted to watch all week long.

This is fucking bush league and a major step backward. Last year I could watch the sport fairly easily between TV and the internet, This year is a goddamn joke and I'm done with it. I have better things to do with my time than fuck around with this fragmented programming bullshit.

I give up as well. I decided this today. Really, I give up. I am so tired of trying to get a feed each week. I will not expect to watch the US Motocross on the next date. (Of course I will bring up the live lap chart (I am a racer!)) I wish the best of luck to all my friends in the business.
gotta agree with majority of the forum, frikkin suuuuukkkkkssss that you can't watch both motos in this day and age. I live in Norcal and its a frikkin nightmare most weekends to even try to watch one moto, let alone two. have resigned to just go online for frikkin results

The TV coverage for Budds Creek was amazing. 4 straight hours of live mx. All I had to do was push a button on the remote control 4 times. Several months ago when it was announced that Speed TV was gone from the mx nationals I switched to Direct TV. Took 1 phone call.

Seriously.....you people actually drive cars and hold down jobs but you cant read and use a tv remote? wtf?

It's getting tougher and tougher on the people who bring you the show.

Although none of them will ever admit it to you, the problem is that interest in the sport is deflating. The people in charge have done everything possible to make the sport more and more boring over the years and it's losing much of it's audience.

That's why you now have to try to catch the Mowercross races in the middle of the night between re-runs of shows like "Elmer Foglesdorfer and this week's Spinning Reel" and "Do it yourself Worm Farm"... On channels that almost no one's ever heard of...

The days of the sport attracting larger and larger crowds and commanding time on networks like Speed ended pretty quickly after the ruling class idiots decided to make Supercoss and Motocross into a marketing campeighn dedicated completely to selling less capable machinery. When the manufacturer's insisted that all their team riders compete on 4 Strokes the sport got quite a bit more boring from a spectator standpoint.

TBlazier's races are where it's at...

It surely can't be that hard to have an official ppv online streaming for the nationals? Being from England, there's no chance of me getting all these channels.

If the evil Youthstream boss can sort it for the gp's. I'm sure DC can do it.

Just like we have zero coverage of the GP's here in America. I fully understand that and wish it was different. But america is behind the times and can't provide streaming coverage of the US Nationals like your sanctioning bodies provide. Hell many times those in the USA watch a justintv feed from portugal just to watch our own races live before they are televised in the usa. America is close to a 3rd world country that is portrayed as a global leader. We are nothing more than posers working the system that we created to prevent prosperity without compensation.

The thing is, If you have a product that is in demand i.e. AMA MX, the networks do what they have to and do what they can to pick them up. Do you really think DC is paying networks to pick up the series? If that is the case, AMA MX needs a better PR and sales person to sell it to networks.

I'm sorry but I don't know where you get the idea that AMA MX is "in demand". I don't think MX Sports is paying the networks to pick the series up but that's only because it's on Fuel/NBC Sports. Do you honestly think that networks are fighting over the chance to broadcast MX racing?
exactly nwrider82!

here is a situation where a person perspective overrides reality. While a persons perspective IS reality to them, its not for the rest of the population of the planet. To you YZ mx is the BOMB. nothing is better, more exciting, there is NO other sport...... 750 million peple in this country, the highest rating I have heard has been 800,000 or so viewers. Now you are saying to yourself, see see, 800,000 people LOVE IT and the rest have yet to discover it! Problem is, do the math. 750,000,000 usa people, 1% is 7,500,000, and thats a good rating, at least at 7.5 share a network wont charge for the air time, will pay for the content (show) and/or will profit share ad revenue. SX, the highest rating, 800,000. thats a .8 share, barely .1% ... a tenth of a percent, barely. NOONE is going to pay any money to have the rights to broadcast SX or MX.

Now, hold on to that while I explain how TV works. A show is made. if its good, it has good ratings. TV PAYS to have that show. Why? because tv makes their money off of advertising! nothing else. Why will NBC pay the cast of Friends 18 million an episode? Because 20 million people are tuning in to watch Friends, and the higher the rating, the more the network can charge per second of advertising time!

So if a decent show rating is a 5 ~ 7 share, 5 million to 7 million tuning in, wtf is NBC, CBS, Speed, Joe's cable access supposed to do with a .8 share?!

And ALL of this is JUST talking about the network, you havent even began to talk about how much it costs to even get the damn race covered! you think its 5 guys with cameras and Weege and Fro? I bet there are at least 20 people, 2 semis of equipement, just to get the show MADE. Here, this is the easy one, get 20 people to each race. No room, no food, just get them there! Get it done on the cheap, 300 a head.... thats 6,000 a week in travel. Now, house them, there is another 3 grand, oh wait, they have bills and do this for a living, so they have to get a pay check..... 100,000, per week, to just cover the race. bet im close. So you are 100 grand in, and you havent even began to get it on a network.

Earlier, you heard me mention a 1 share. At a 1 share, you have reached a number where networks say, ok, our marketing department can do something with it barely. We wont change you 100k a show to air it, or 150k, but we will yada yada.

thats a great business model there, if i tried to run my business with this
type of mindset, i would be hanging out with Tyrone Biggles and eatin dogfood!!

Interesting

Dumbass? I love how people like yourself claim to be so fuking smart
that all you can come up with is dumbass? Like you really have any fuking
clue about how smart or dumb i am?! What makes me laugh is that you do
really think you are some kind of keyboard badass, and that you really know
sooo much about everything on the interweb. And i havent spent but 5 hours
total watching mx this year, bwtween the shotty coverage and working, i dont
have time to worry about having to search for a race that could easily be on
mainstream television, but instead is spread out all over the fuking place.
not to mention u want to call me out for watching 5 hours of moto, but
you spend way more time than that here everyday of your so called superior life
and most of that is putting people down or being a total assclown. Have a Happy
Fathers Day Mr internet Rambone/Nick Burns.
Now there's a giant block of shit no one wants to read.

To quote the opening post "I give up ......" on this thread. Is it really too much to change chanels on the tv? Why blame Mxsports because your TV provider of choice either charges you for the channels or doesn't offer them? Yeah, Internet streams would be nice, but, we have no idea what restrictions are in place. Frankly, I found the coverage yesterday to be good. And I even figured out the remote control and Directv's interactive guide issues.

The TV coverage for Budds Creek was amazing. 4 straight hours of live mx. All I had to do was push a button on the remote control 4 times. Several months ago when it was announced that Speed TV was gone from the mx nationals I switched to Direct TV. Took 1 phone call.

Seriously.....you people actually drive cars and hold down jobs but you cant read and use a tv remote? wtf?
yeah thats all well and good but there's a big world outside america and there's quite a few people in the rest of the world that would like to see the nationals live, me being one.

pay per view stream is the way forward tbh, i took out sky tv which had motors tv, the channel mxgp is on. got netflix in mainly for the kids. got a season pass to mxlife so i can still watch mxgp.

now this isn't a slam on anyone here, but there's alot of people that would say the ama nationals is the no1 mx series in the world right? well if thats the case why can i, a motocross fan for 40 years, watch the best mx races in the world live? when i can watch a second rate series like mxgp online on demand.

i dont want to have to try and watch the second races on some fucking spyware ridden portuguese streaming channel, i'd rather pay to get good coverage.

now before anyone says the rest of the world doesn't matter, it clearly does when it's creating revenue for our beloved sport.

It's a &^(*&%$%$* mess and I thought I was done bitching about it, still trying to figure out what this ALLI - SPORTS

business alliance has brought to the table ? An additional mouth to feed ?

It's pretty damn ridonkulous when they have to issue instructions on " HOW" to watch upcoming broadcasts.

Only assistance I can offer, is, if you live in the United States oF Motocross - buy every channel available, even if you

think you might not watch it - because mx might be on that channel next (Ie - Cartoon Network, Brazilian Travel Channel,

British Isles Sheepherding Network, etc...) Also, buy a DVR and go to more Nationals in person.

Drinking more is not a solution, but it seems fun at the time. Speed-Channel or ESPN, please ?

Do people honestly think DC likes having the show jump from channel to channel? You don't think he would like to see MX live on ESPN or Speed?

The streaming for overseas, I can understand that issue but for here, I am thinking this is the best that this niche sport can get. This isn't the NFL or NBA.

Since everyone seems to agree this is a second rate shit niche sport, why so much flak over bringing back some 125's? Why so much flak over allowing some 2 stroke 250's in the 250 class?

Quit making sense, Newmann. What this sport needs is more 450's on parade laps, more womens motos and

the institutional shunning of the smoke-makers. Be off with your logic.

In thought you were going to say you hurt your wrist......sorry joking! Damn dude while your at it quit the Internet lmao.

I would gladly pay to watch our sport PPV online ensuring we watch every race in its entirety.

I don't know how you can expect to reach new audiences by switching the motos between channels. Like someone earlier said, it gets confusing if you turn on the TV and like the race you are viewing only to find out it's half of the actual race and you need to flip to another channel (that you may not even have) for an hour to catch the rest of what you are watching.

How can we expect to attract new people to our sport like that?

I'm thankful for how far we've brought new markets into our sport but we can do better than this IMO.

Just to sum up in case someone doesn't feel like wading through 30 pages of text:

DC is short for 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap'. He's sold the sport to a bunch of posey-sniffing environmentalists who are trying to drive us all out so they can take over the land fills and reservation property where we normally ride so they can plant dandelions or something. Those jackholes Emig and Bestwick are nothing more than corporate fuzz bunnies sent here to screw up our english. The broadcast sucked and a number of the faithful were so drunk they forgot to switch channels and now they don't have all the motos recorded on their VHS's. And, none of this would have ever happened if we were still riding 2 strokes.
