I totally agree with your point.

On another train of thought, I think if Dungey rode like he was going fast people would consider him faster than they do now. His style is just very effortless and he doesn't move around on the bike a lot. At Washougal last year, Villopoto was getting aggressive as hell, which if you were to watch the two run laps individually without a stopwatch, you would probably think RV2 was running faster times, yet Dungey effortlessly centered on the bike was pulling away from him.

I know he's not always the fastest, but even when he truly is, he still looks to be going slower than the other riders.

His riding style definately doesn give the impression of the speed he's going, extremely efficient style

He's just a brilliant rider, has a brilliant attitude and will once again more than likely be there for America come the MXDN.

Did anyone read that Roger Decoster interview in MXA a couple of months back? They basically asked him "What stood out to you about Ryan Dungey?" Roger said said in not so few words... his attitude, fitness and corner speed were already very good even as an amateur. Expanding on that last point, he said a lot of riders try and impress you with their jumping skills but that's not what I look for. It's the corners that matter.

He sure is, and he's only lost one championship on the big bikes without having a mechanical. He's tough to beat for sure.

What about falling and breaking his collarbone during SX? I doubt that it will happen but this could be one of those years where the "best of the rest" fight for the title.

That would be the one championship I'm referring to. I love how you point out the exception, not the rule.

Dungey has always reminded me of DeCoster which is no doubt, not a coincidence. Roger rode with the same cool, calculating effortless style and we all know how that worked out for him.

Dungey is a racing machine. I assume his goal is To never beat himself and if this is the case he is going to win a bunch b/c he has only done that once with the collarbone in Sx this past season. He has been as fast or faster than everyone else since he got into the 450 class and it is impossible to be the fastest guy all the time with the amount of speed on the gate every time they line up indoors or out. No one can question is race craft even though some will say he doesn't pass aggressively enough....it seems to me like he knows what he is doing.

And I can't believe how well they seem to have that KTM working. Amazing work in such a short period of time. He is matching Bubba's speed on a proven bike (Suzuki) while they have created a new bike that he looks totally confident with.

Hard to believe he's the same rider who lost that 250 title in 08. But I'd say AC is the most consistent rider on the planet right now.

This is going to come off as gay (not that there is anything wrong with that), but I've always thought he should be nicknamed the "Iceman" as in from Top Gun. Sounds totally gay I know, but thats the way he rides. Ice cold, hardly ever makes a mistake. Stalks and persists just waiting to pounce whenever the opposition makes a mistake.

1. Ya gotta be in it to win it...unless ya already won it (like RV1.) Then you can only lose the next one by being in the one that you don't need to be in anymore.

2. The more you bleed on the the ground the less you smile on the podium.

3. The less you bleed on the ground, the more you smile on the podium.

4. The more you smile on the podium, the more you build confidence.

5. The more you build confidence, the more you smile on the podium.

6. Endless loop #4 and #5.

My kid's (6 yr old) favorite rider is RD5, and when he won in Indy, he went apeshit. Smooth, self motivated, consistant, a champion and self trained. Pretty hard to pick a better rolemodel or idol to look up too, tbh.

I like it. I don't think it was ever a question. If anything he needs to be more aggressive. In both disciplines. It works for him.

he doesnt need to be racing to be consider consistent. I think you can judge some one that already is retired to see how consistent he was. Dungey have more years to come he is maybe in the middle of his pro carrer? He is consistent but the most consistent rider in the world?

Dungey is way faster on the KTM than I thought possible. He may seem to be matching James speed, but James can sure pass him like hes standing still....

totally agree , he's knocked CR22 off the consistency throne in my eyes, he rarely crashes and always looks to be riding within himself....even if its for thirds etc...

Yea, that Dungey, he's just consistent, not really fast at all. I mean, just look, at Freestone, Bubba put what, 1 or 2 seconds on him each moto? With a lead like that Bubba had time to stop and drink a Red Bull.
