Wrong addresses and double labels are a MONEY MAKER for UPS.

The delivery guy can KNOW exactly where it is supposed to go, but if they have a wrong number, or a double lable, they send it back to the sender as "undeliverable".

Then the sender fixes the problem, and resends, but shipping will be paid on both shipments.

I am not defending Service Honda in any way, any they probably did send the package out with an old label on the package, but UPS is the one who forced this issue.

I know this because I worked for UPS for 5 years.
SH should know this and remove old labels prior to shipping, that is their negligence.

I do. Their prices are straight up MSRP which is high as f*ck but I can get the shit next day. So if I need Honda parts next day I use them otherwise I use whoever has the best price with it's in stock.

I use my local parts guy, who orders it out of a catalog.

No disagreement there. They are ULTIMATELY responsible, but UPS will stymie a delivery if they can, in the name of increased revenue. They do not care how urgently you needed what they might have had in the truck right outside your home or business. If they see ANY error, regardless of how minute, they will RETURN TO SENDER, and not think twice about it.

We would see a package, and say "oh, I know where that is supposed to go", but policy was policy.

RETURN TO SENDER!

The Shop

mtl, have you contacted them at the email address? I would be kind of interested to know how they handle it, or if you actually get a reply.

If I want new sprockets / chain for a bike, I can go to www.motosport.com and the parts show up to my house in three days. Shipping is FREE and the OTD price is WAY lower than the local dealer.

If I go to to local dealer, they "have to order it" and "it should be here in a few days". Then, you get a "courtesy call" four to seven days later saying you can make another trip down to the dealer to pick the items up. Oh yeah, and don't forget that you paid significantly more for the same parts to begin with. Also, add in the possibility that the parts guy doing the clicking on the computer might have fucked up your order and ordered red sprockets when you wanted rainbow colored (it has happened to me). Now, you have paid more initially, driven to the shop twice, and you are stuck with the wrong part. Now, you get to wait another week for them to re-order your correct part and then make a third trip to the shop to pick up your parts. However, once you get there, you learn that although the sprockets are there, the chain "is on back-order". Now, you get to wait another week and make a fourth trip to the local dealer. All this to "help support the local dealer"? I'm all for helping small business but if you run your shop like huge conglomerate corporation (bike routinely priced over $1000 higher than what everyone else is selling them for), it's hard to have sympathy.

When I was a kid, the local shops were like mom and pop type places where they knew my name and allowed me to climb all over their fleet of new 80s and would give me free stickers. Nowadays, they are like car dealerships. "Let me talk to my manager and bump the price on you". Pisses me off.

I'll stick to motosport, chapparal, etc. for all my parts needs, thank you.
I would have to agree with you bullpen...

Not every motorcycle shop in the country is motocross-minded to begin with.
Twenty five years of progress in the sport of motocross definately has it much more on the map then it used to be, but it still isn't to the point that many shops can base any large percentage of its business on stocking parts, accessories, etc for the moto crowd.
Twenty years ago I would drive almost two hours to a shop that was started and run by a couple of motocross racers.
Despite their efforts (and mine to support them), I don't think they made it two years before the doors shut.

I have been to So Cal, and there are definately shops that have and can support the higher percentage of riders/racers that exist in certain spots.

Since I don't live in So Cal (or for that matter in an area of the country with a good MX-oriented dealer) I have experienced everything bullpen mentioned (...and then some).
After the motocross shop I spoke of had closed, I had to go back to my local dealer again.
I once ordered a KX-250 front number plate from them. Besides costing $60 for a flat peice of green plastic, it took me close to six weeks to get it.
After four weeks of stopping in to see if it had arrived, I made the parts person dig through the stack of order forms next to the register. My order was still on the bottom, unplaced after four weeks.
Mind you this is just one bad example from a customer whom at that time between my father and myself had given them 25 years of business including purchasing over a dozen bikes.

In the last ten plus years, with internet and places like Motosport, BTO, etc at my disposal, I no longer have a need for my local dealer, just as they had little need for me over the years.

I'm happy that some dealers can exist and service the motocross crowd, but rest assured that isn't the truth everywhere!

Why don't I support my local dealer? It isn't even convenient or financially efficient for me to do so.

"Sure, no problem, but I will charge you 20% for restocking the parts".

The last time somebody tried that with me I told them to go ahead and I'll dispute the charge with uncle VISA.
Apparently businesses don't like disputed charges...

I feel sorry for SH, I'm certain this woman gets paid to do her job, and I doubt being a bitch was part of the job description. As an employer I can tell you first hand that I lose money quite a bit when it comes to fuck ups on our end, and its the same deal, if the guys would just do what I ask them to do and they would do it the way I've shown them, we wouldn't have half the problems we do. I can't be everywhere so I dont catch em often but when I see one of my guys either doing the opposite of what I told em to do or being a jerk to a customer I hit em' where it hurts, in the wallet.
I deduct a buck twice for the first and second times, then they get canned. With that said, I would have a hard time buying anything from him again after you were treated so rudely. Ultimately its the owners job to weed idiots out of their business

Please don't think that SoCal is some magical place that you can go in and actually get parts. 99% of the time it is exactly as Bullpen58 described. Either they don't realize or they don't care but it is super irritating not to be able to get something as common as clutch springs for a CRF450. It's not like i'm asking for parts to a 74 Husky. They are for a late model CRF450 for F%^k sake.

i just had a bad day at a local shop and will never go back.

first they looked at me like an idiot when i told them what i wanted. they looked in a book and said its not available. turns out they were in a street book. i get them straight and looking in a dirt book and they open it up to the pit bike section. after a few more words i grab the book turn to the page i want and give them the part number.

next they had an attitude about price matching. so i asked for a military discount and they said yes.

next i needed a chain and that went bad. the words "well its a chain and its oily so it should work" were spoken

finally 30 min later im at the register and notice the total was way to high. turns out the discount was not applied and they cant do that at the register. in a hurry i pay and get back on the road. look at the receipt and noticed they charged me shipping.
WTF??????? really

took almost a week to get the part in. I am done with them and will never return.

Guess loyalty has paid off for me over the years. I can get anything I want from my local shop cheaper then any online store. I raced for them for years and they have always hooked me up no matter what it is. Which is one main reason I buy from them not only the customer service I get when I walk in or call them. They carry everything I need and if I need something ordered I can order it Monday and have it Thursday. Which is plenty good for me.

I can get OEM Yamaha stuff so cheap I never look else where. Truly amazes me some times.

I understand not all shops can match what I get or even come close but I will always support my local shop even though I don't race for them any more.

I've been using SH parts dept. for about 14 years and never had a problem. Hell, they've even called me when a part cost a few bucks more than their website showed when I placed my order just to make sure I was OK with it and still wanted it.

I had that happen to me once and it wasn't just a few bucks more so I cancelled the order. I think they have to call and tell you because I don't think you can order parts at one price and then charge more.

I was going to guess you shopped at Travco like I do, but then I noticed your location. I don't buy everything at my local dealer, but I do buy a lot and have never had to shop around on parts. when I do buy elsewhere it's because of sponsorships, but if I can't get it thru one of them my dealer always hooks me up with a good deal.

that motofab fella has hooked me up once or twice two. I won't argue it's hard to find good dealers, but when/if you do support them.

Wow...I had no idea it was that bad out there. I am a dealer..very small shop with dirt only. KTM/Husaberg/GasGas. If my customer wants a rear sprocket for a KTM I have stock, Renthal, Supersprox and the orange Powerparts. I keep most plastic in stock and top end parts and all the usual wear items. I order at least once a week..usually twice. I race myself so I know whats going to break. I don't have any trouble meeting RMC's prices except on maybe tires and close out riding gear.

So if you ordered $4k worth of stuff from them in the past....did you write $4k worth of POSITIVE posts about them....or do you only start threads to bash companies??

I agree, it sounds like they handled it wrong....but if I shopped at place and had positve results 19 outta 20 times.....i am not going swear off them and go bashing their name so quickly....

We value you as a customer and your business, if your parts were delayed for whatever reason, I apologize for any issues.
As one of the worlds largest and most successful OEM parts suppliers, moving a very large volume of parts and packages world wide, we strive for everything to be accurate and delivered in a timely fashion.
However given the volume, sometimes mistakes or things simply can and do come up in shipping..When it occurs we try and resolve it as quickly as we can.
Although I have no details, and no way to look into it yet, your case seems like things went sideways and again my apologies.
.
I'm just back from vacation and was notified of the thread.
If you can supply me your full name and the orders invoice number , i would certainly be glad to look into the situation and
a resolution.
If you are uncomfortable with putting that information on a public forum, you can contact me directly at ajwaggoner@servicehonda.com,

Maybe you were a perfect gentleman. Just saying, there could be more to the story. Regardless there is no excuse for the poor service/behavior of the parts manager.

The number one reason I don't use my local dealer: Convenience.

I don't even care about the price....I just want it to be as easy as possible. And stopping by the shop (which isn't in my living room or office...gotta drive all the way over there) once to order and again to pick up the part is just a pain in the butt. Nevermind that the punk, bad attitude, kid working the parts counter is more concerned with having his flat billed hat at the just-the-right-angle atop his head, than learning what's in stock and how to use the parts book...

With Rocky Mountain ATV just down the road...I can order anything (before 3:00 in the afternoon) and its on my doorstep literally the next day, for free! It's just plain easy.

One thing I've always wondered about...since most local shops have to order everything in anyway, why don't they just have the part shipped to the customers house rather than to the shop (so the customer doesn't have to drive there and pick it up)???

Seems this would allow them to somewhat level the playing field with the mail order places...and for a guy like me that just wants his parts in the easiest way possible...that would actually make a difference.

I thought it was pretty well known they made terrific conversions, and do clean work, but anything else they did was an absolute joke?

I know I had a buddy that tried to buy a wide-ratio CR500 trans from them about 6-7 years ago, and said they were like dealing with his ex-wife.
Graphite,

The *AF* motorcycles are a cool part of our business, but OEM parts is the main division and has been for decades..
everyone has an opinion,so i'm entitled to post mine as well , and its obviously biased, but hopefully tempered with experience and background ,maybe even a joke or two Wink

That said, I think it's pretty well known , that Service Honda/Powersports has always been an industry leader in OEM parts sales and service., hence the name itself.
We were innovators in many of the OEM parts ordering conveniences ,like on-line diagrams and parts look ups, riders are so used to today.

Hey , it is unfortunate your buddy couldn't buy a wide ratio transmission from us!
I had spent a lot of time previously researching the old HRC transmission kits and tracking down where any might be, and even where any IMS W/R trans kits might be left on a dusty shelf,
as well as where the IMS tooling and machines had been sold off to.
I tried to find those and possibly buy them to make the kits available again.
It turned out they had been sold off to an American machine shop, who then later sold them to a Chinese company so ultimately, and for all intents and purposes gone.
The few kits still in the USA, where really limited, perhaps 3 to 5 at most?
IMS had one kit, and having worked with them long term agreed to sell me that kit ,so we might possibly use in re- manufacturing the WR kit. One other firm stated they had two or 3 sets?. We received one set from that vendor , and never any more.
We never mislead any one on that possibility, or on availability, and certainly gave anyone asking about it, the information I had at the time on how they might get a kit from those other sources. If even possible.
If his ex wife was equally difficult , I think he came out ok in the divorce? Smile

Its not the dealer who won't Drop ship its the Maunfactures and aftermarket companies for several reasons. one reason is that they get several orders sent at one time so how do you send it to all the different people without it going to the dealer first and second everyone and his brother would claim to be a dealer with a tax ID ,not as big a problem for the Honda , Yamaha etc but for aftermarket companys they cant go to every little "dealer" to make sure its not in a guys basement. and not all dealer have to order everything , some dealers have a massive selection on hand. You may not have one by you but they are out there.
