How many guys rode moto at your high school?

Racing wise there was a max of 5 of us my 11th grade year. I loved being a racer in school. People would ask what are you doing this weekend, I would say racing in a real sport and not playing in a wimpy ball sport.

I graduated in 2011 and of the 749 kids in my graduating class I think there were only about 8-10 of us that rode and raced. We were all a pretty tight knit group and pretty much only hung out with each other outside of school.

It's weird being off at college now (A&M) where I have yet to meet another person who rides moto. I've seen trucks with moto stickers but have never actually got to talk to anyone. It probably doesn't help that the nearest track open to the public is 90 minutes away.

i went to school just west of Houston in a town called Katy and two other kids at my school raced. I think there were about 2000 kids at my school. One of them brought Terra Firma to school and told everyone he was in it. At the college I went to in FL there were about 10 kids who raced. Paul Perebijnos, Wilson's mechanic was one of those kids.

My senior year at Anaheim High School (1980) I was the only racer. We were more of a football school. ( I did live nearly across the street from Anaheim Husqvarna.

There were like 3 of us that were 100% dedicated racers.
Then there were a couple posers types, they were our lackeys/groupies.
Circa mid to late 80's.

Late 70's, school of only 500 and I was it , probably only 3 or 4 others that even rode a dirt bike. Although my Freshman year there was a senior that was a pretty speedy tt/flat tracker.
My senior "casual" photo I used an air borne photo of me racing my CZ and while some of the stick and ball jocks had some Yogi Berra quote to go with their photo, I think I dug up this one up from one of my history books; " Man was born with two fears, fear of falling and fear of loud loises". Nobody understood what the hell I was trying to say.

Corona del Mar HS, Orange County CA 1976-1982. Me and my brother, thats it beleive it not. We missed Pete Maly, the HS team and the whole SoCal HS motocross scene by a couple years.

I used to win Thurs nights at OCIR and after a while not even bother telling anyone Friday at school.

Saddleback was freeking 30 mins away!!

All my lazy ass friends with trust funds from Newport just wanted to lay on the beach in the sun and splash around on their surfboards?? -Go Figure.

I graduated from Ramona High in 1989. Barona Oaks, which was the home track for guys like Scott Burnworth, Broc Glover, Ron Lechein, Rick Johnson and Mike Craig, was right around the corner on the Indian Reservation (and still is.)

None of those guys went to Ramona High, but there were at least 5 of us in my graduating class alone who raced, and probably 10 more in different classes throughout the years. There was a riding area in a gravel pit that we all went to basically every day after school, and you would always have someone to ride with. It was a good scene.

Dirt bike were huge in my tiny home town of 2000 people. Yearly enduro in town and guys riding Pentons all over the place for transportation.

We actually had a small track on school property and the local police looked the other way so we could ride on the shoulder of some public roads to get there. Every spring the high school had "alternate education week", different groups, different sports/activities. They wouldn't let us bring in pole dancers so we had a moto coach and train for a week.

1974-75.

Considering I'm in England, and 95% of the population in this country dislike everything to do with moto, in my high school last year everyone thought what I did was just stupid. Really, no one cared about it, and no one wanted to know. As far as people who do MX? Out of every school I've ever been too, not one other person has done MX, not even in the same area have I found someone else that has shared my interest.

It's a bit of a bummer for me, I just want one person who I can bench race with Cool

Tustin High School with 1800-or-so students. Class of 70. We used to get stares when we wore our mx boots when the FB team wore jerseys on Fridays.
We are all still friends. Couple are missing.

At least 10 guys. I had Jim Turner who became a 2-Time Canadian National Champion for Suzuki and his brother Paul who founded Rock Shox of Mtn. Bike fame with Keith Bontrager and Steve Simons. Keith used to build my RM motors back in 77'.

I knew like 7 of em. I did not ride because my parents wouldn't buy me one. I was still shoveling jumps for my Yamaha trial50 at 12, had to switch to BMX later on because of the neighbours.... As soon as i got my first paycheck at 18 i bought myself a ktm250. Smile

Yep. He is Mark, your pool guy!
He was on the cover of Cycle News Oct 1969, in a Carlsbad race, too.

Me and 1 other raced. Always felt like an outsider cause I knew nothing of the traditional sports. This was the late 80's, there were a bunch that rode though.

Lots of kids had dirt bikes, but as far as I've been able to find out, I was the first from our town to race.

My brother, cousin, and a few others picked it up after me, there was about 6 of us by the time I graduated.

I go to a school with 400 kids and there are 8 (including me) that ride and we all ride together. Five of them and including myself race also. Well, and I guess all of the redneck kids on there beat up quads.

If I remember correctly I was the only kid that raced, My city that I grew up in was extremely football oriented. Everyone focused on that. I remember my mom an I being cornered in the grocery store by the coaches and them begging my mom to have a "talk" with me about coming back and playing ball. My mom just told them, I'll try but he loves that motorcycle.

My senior year, there were 7 of us. 3 hare scramble/enduro, 4 moto.

Us 3 off-road guys also raced moto, but I could only ever talk 2 of the moto kids into doing a hare scramble. The other two ended up trying a hare scramble about 3 years after I graduated.

Out of the 7, there's only 2 still racing frequently. I get to race about 3 times per year, even though I attend more races than either of the other guys (working the races though)... Then one of the guys switched to bicycles before joining the Air Force recently, another is busy with college and the other two quit all together.

I graduated in 2008, so that's all broken down in a span of just 4 years.
