Honestly if a small thing like that forced Villopoto to limp off the track and drop out of the race (even though everything is clinched), it is reason for concern. Knees are no small thing. Wasn't it his left knee that forced him out of the 09 MX championship? I think he'll be okay for now, but that was such a minor tweak that effected him quite a bit. Imagine one on the MX track at high speeds.

I don't know if it was his left knee of not, but I remember him commenting on the fact that that knee had been injured for years possibly before it finally went in 2009. I think it is possible that even if it is injured that he continues to ride until the off-season. As for being a minor tweak, I don't get that. The knee twisted outward as he slid down in a lowslide. I think RC's knee injury that took him out of a SX season occurred without even crashing, it just popped. Catch a knee just right and it could go out climbing stairs.

Well I'm not a doctor but I'll speculate wildly as well if that helps.

Whatever is wrong hope it isn't too serious and RV is able to stay on track.

You folks seriously dont think that Kawi told him.. if you dont get a top 3 or 4 start, throw the race. We will give you your win bonus money, and that way you arent getting gooned by a mid pack rider... and saying good bye to the outdoor season. Dont for a second think it couldnt happen, and Id bet a good dollar on this one. Safety first, and its ALL about titles. Period. They want that outdoor title, and its cheap insurance.

That was a pretty lame crash, to say he hurt himself that bad. Good acting though, if it actually was the case. I want to believe that doesnt happen... but, I promise you it does, and has in the past.
Please tell me this is a joke?

No one has told me anything but for sure RV will have an MRI done on knee & they'll see from there.I would be VERY surprised if he races SLC

Well, it just plain sucks that RV got injured. I hope he's back 100% for the Nats. He needs to lay off the rest of the SXs. 4 of the top riders are out anyway.

Tweet from Ping:@davidpingree I'm hearing RVs knee is smoked. Will he fix it and be ready for 2013? Or run no ACL and Chase mx title? Contract year. Big decisions.

As soon as I saw the way he was getting up I told my wife, "Well shit. We're not going to see him till 2013."

So now Dungey grabs the MX title handily (possibly undefeated), and we get to wait for the shitty year that is 2012 to come to a close and hope that 2013 doesn't see all of the top guys out again. DAMN!

With no RV you think Dungey will go undefeated? I predict Alessi beats him outright in at least 3 motos this year, whether RV is out there or not.

I've already made that bet twice. I've got $20 with ModKiller and $10 (I think) with BobbyM, that Alessi doesn't get another OA in his career.

I will also bet 10 bills that Alessi never sees another overall, I would be completely amazed if he has another moto win in his career

I hope he's well. It's crazy how sometimes small crashes cause big issues; hell, Stewart smoked his knee at Washougal in 07 without even falling.

On the other hand, there's the Chad Reed approach . . .

Now Hank... dont get excited and go off all early, like you do with your lady friend.

I will give you this video, It definitely looks like that one hurt, or could have did some damage.

And, take it easy ladies.... I didnt say it was for sure the case this time, but it has happened in the past, and it will again. Its all about the cash... just like any professional sport. The top guys just learn how to work within all the goofy rules and requirements.... I think RV is a pretty sharp kid, and has dedication like no other.

I hope hes ok, and doesnt miss too many races if his knee is pooched. Brings back memories of RC's knee..... I hope not though.

Outstanding job back-peddling there. And the pre-mature ejaculation joke totally solidifies your totally legit opinion.

You're an idiot to even speculate that Ryan was just acting.

This is the worst SX year ever. By far. There is more injured riders than there is active left.

I believe he was laying on the ground and bent over in pain due to the bar he took to the gut, not the knee. He hobbled off on the knee and stood on it to get on the back on the bike. Hopefully nothing too bad, and he takes a month off.

If you say so Grieby.... it must be true. You definitely are the shining example of reason and insight on Vital. That is one thing everyone knows for sure.... Uh huh.

I admit it, again... from that angle, it looks like his knee could be pooched. And, as I said... I hope not.

What a season. I cant remember there being on where this many top riders got hurt.

So is it only a bad Charlie Horse like some are reporting or is it a blown ACL?

BTW, I have torn ACL`s and meniscus in both of my knees and they pop out occasionally. It hurts like a bitch and I`m on a ground instantly, but I can walk after an hour or so. It hurts for another month and it`s a little painful to walk but it all goes away till next time. Been like this for ten years now.
