It was a good effort on a bike that cost maybe $2200.

All 250s???? Hey why don't we try this new idea where we have 125s and 250s???? Oh no that would be to controversial, to ahead of its time...............Hey then we could tone down the tracks so we don't lose half the field, tone them down so they're not injuring themselves trying to do impossible combos on over weight pigs just so the can gain an edge on their competition on race day and practice. Hey then we could have the bikes be more affordable to maintain and we could have privateers that could afford to race.

Oh no thats just insane talk right there, just purely crazy...... No way that would ever work......

Thank you Ricky for shining a light on something the Factories and the aftermarket have forgotten......That this sport is supposed to be fun, affordable and accessable. That the little guy does matter and should matter. That some people and sanctioning bodies think they are far to important to be bothered with this.

An aftermarket exhaust for a 450 runs upwards of 500-700 bucks. The same 125 system, maybe $300. Think it's just the OEMs who are interested in having more riders buy thumpers?

Nothing is going to change here anytime soon. Funny that while the issue about displacement was all about Renner *maybe* running a 144 (still underpowered), we instead hear that the AMA is looking at killing the 450 bikes (and I presume, the 125ccs too).

It was a good effort on a bike that cost maybe $2200.

One idea I heard floated today was that everyone rides 250s in the future, including the premier class, and the there are varying levels of mods allowed to separate the men from the boys.
For the sake of privateers I hope this doesn't happen. The 250fs just don't last long enough with a skilled rider on them. This may tighten up the game but its not going to loosen up the wallets.
If it happened we would all still be on message boards begging for a "true" 250cc class allowing the 2 strokes to run.

at least the 450 will stay together for a few races... sometimes.

watching him I could feel the frustration he must have felt on those starts.

There's should still be a place for the 125, just not the 250 class.

Everyone being on 250's and capable of being wide open would do for the sport what the restrictor plate has done for nascar, but would really suck when only the first few bikes can ever really fit through a start cleanly.

I think boosting the 125s to at least 144 (and maybe a little more weight break) would be a start. But the guys who want 250 vs. 250 are guaranteeing that the 125(ish) bikes are doomed.

If the manufacturers don't maintain homologation on the "current" crop of two-stroke models, it won't matter much, anyway.

I've mentioned restrictor plates as a way that NASCAR slowed their cars (in the interest of safety) on Superspeedways. In no way am I advocating for that in SX/MX.

I heard a faint 2-stroke sound on the final lap of Heat 2 for the Lites Class. Sadly aside from Darryn Durham's "Cheat" line, that sound was the highlight of the New Orleans Supercross for me.

I thought Renner did good. He was seriously underpowered, even though he did all the jumps. His girlfriend was nice enough to talk to us for at least 5 mins and explained that they didn't tear his bike down, Maybe because they had mentioned filing a protest against Barcia's bike. He qualified for the night show though, but didn't make one of the top two spots in the LCQ. He wasn't last, though. Here's a pic of his bike, even though it's a little blurry.

The idea GuyB brought is interesting for SX classes: a stock/spec rule for the Lites and an open/250 class, no production rule for the big class. That way you lower the costs for privateers in the Lites and lower the risk of injury in the main class.

As for the 2 strokes, I'd say 150 in the Lites, some mods allowed, and 250 for the big class, same rules as 4 strokes.

We had got a 144 big bore for my Son's 05 cr125r and tryed everything to get the bike running crisp...it was a mess and nothing worked because it was ported wrong..it was a pig..sounded like a hoover..we sent the cylinder back to the builder and he sent us a new one..guess what? we got another hoover vac...missed a few monthes of the summer season messing with the thing..just pissed!

We got ahold of Terry Varner and shipped him the cylinder..he found the exhaust ports opened up way to much..he did some welding/closing the ports to where they should have been..smoothing things out getting the right height on things..shipped it back to us and...wow...arm pulling crisp power everywhere..unreal bike..had some pro riders watching my son ride the thing and they said....that is the fastest cr 125 we have ever seen...

story short.....getting the porting right! is key..big time

If they are considering eliminating 450's from SX then the 250 class should be 2 stroke or 4 stroke. A 45 hp privateer 2 stroke against a 45 hp 4 stroke factory bike would be totally realistic. Then bring back the real 125 class for the regional east/west. They helped kill it off and now they are seeing the effect. Feld has the market cornered on SX, they could help bring the 125 back. If Feld announced that 2014 would see the return of the 125 class does anyone honestly think Honda would run off with their tail between their legs? They could easily offer up a kit racer just like they do with their karting program. The 125's don't need to be super state of the art stuff anyway, just look at the rehashed 85's that have been sold since the mid 90's.

Talk about crazy 2 stroke conspiracies

The AMA did not go easy on Renner because of the Protest Barcia threat, they have already torn down those bikes and many others this year, Nobody reports it and nobody that is at the top gives a shit, it's just business.

They tagged his bike for tear down, then after it was all over told him they didn't want to tear it down, Then Renner came and tore it down just to prove what it was and good for Renner's.

The AMA could have handled this better. Good on Renner for doing it anyway.

So what race is "Ricky Renner - 2012 Supercross Man of the Year" racing next?
4/16/2012 8:52am
If 125s are such a disadvantage, why didn't he ride in the big bike class with a 250T?
