My GF is awesome, but a little odd...the last 2 years we have flown to SanFran and went to Hangtown, then shopped etc. However, she is "sick of California" and wants to go to another location where there is stuff to see before + after the races.

Freestone immediately came to mind...fly to Dallas, go to the race and then spend a few days in New Orleans. Probably my 1st choice at this point.

I checked and Unadilla is a pretty decent drive from NYC...

Anybody have input on interesting stuff to see in the geographical area of a particular National? She's not so much into the shopping and that BS, visiting a civil war museum or going into the Everglades in Florida or the swamp in Louisiana would probably be her 1st choice.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Southwick.

Boston right nearby for Museums and stuff, the Cape Cod shore is pretty nice during summer and there are literally hundreds of other spots within driving distance.

I am a huge fan of Southwick. Others have Red Bud at the top, or Budds. Or another. It's hard to go wrong.

there is only one true national. Redbud.

if you think others are better...its because you never been to redbud. I've been to them all and RB is the one i would go back to every year. i would rate them like this.

1. redbud
2. unafuckindilla
3. mt.morris
4. southwick
5. shougal

6. the rest.

7. freestone and colorado seem very weak to me. (never been to freestone though).

That's great guys, and thanks for the suggestions. I like the Southwick idea for sure.

The thing is that I'm happy to go to any National and I'd like to have some cool shit we could go do before or after to better sell her on the trip - she will take a book to the races no matter what track it is, though she humors me and is cool about it.

Kind of why I am not bullish on Red Bud with her - as far as I know there is not much of interest there other than great racing (and partying). Washougal (and Seattle) might be a choice, but we actually went to Seattle last year.

Anybody else want to weigh in?

Chicago is less than 2 hours from Red Bud, and you'll never run out of things to do there.

Plus I suck at riding sand tracks, so it would be cool to see the pros do it.
I hate the Red Sox, but Fenway has a ton of history.

and i forgot to mention Millville, MN. thats right up there. beautiful track and dirt. great viewing. Southwick is little more laid back IMO. Serious moto fans there. Unidilla and Redbud were by far the craziest and were usually super hot temps during.

If shes in to the "great doors" , hit Colorado.

Could hike the easiest fourteener there is ( Longs Peak ), maybe do some rafting up near Estes park , hit up Boulder on the way back- heaps of cool bars and restaurants there and could still do a bit of shopping in Denver then hit the National.

Lived out there for a while - very nice indeed.

haha yeah i totally blew the list. springcreek is pretty sweet. love the creek there for those hot days.

only complaint with springcreek was the parking/traffic. its been late 90's since i've been there though and it might have changed. i was always in the pits so i didn't have to walk far but seemed like spectators had to walk a long ways.

redbud is kinda nice because parking is all around the track within sight distance kinda to your car. traffic is bad on exit tho....but in a way they all are so whatever.

Budds Creek is about an hour away from Washington, DC could see some cool sights and also hang out at the gaylord hotel on the potomac which is about 40 minutes from the track.

I made the trip to Unadilla last year and it was bad ass! Close to Unadilla you have Cooperstown, which was AWESOME if you even just like baseball a little bit. We then drove into Boston which wasnt really that bad of a drive and had really cool scenery. My vote is Unadilla, I had a great time, the only problem was it made me want to ride REALLY bad!

agreed....by far the best national and the shopping she can do on Michigan ave in Chi town will make you broke.

Millville would be second beacause she could kill the mall of america too.
