Whoa there homeslice, where in my post did I say "straight up" or anything like that. You need to not be so quick to get all wound up. I know Ryan. I know his Mom and Dad. I had to work with him several times in the past. Same with Decoster. Shit, I even attempted to go on a jog one morning in Daytona with Roger which was a BAD idea on my part. So Im just pointing out that running 4th every weekend and hoping for someones "style" to cause an injury, is not the direction they had planned on. Roger is about winning and second place means nothing to him (much less 3rd or 4th).

Ryan needs to get more aggressive. He has everything he needs except that inner most pissed off I dont care what happens katy bar the door attitude. RC had this and it was obvious. He didnt care if it hurt to flatland a 80ft. jump. He just did it.
But anyone that knows anything about motocross already knows this and we all thought it might change once he gets up in the big leagues and gets pushed around. Im still not seeing it.

All that said, I really do like Ryan and my kids still cheer for him at the races.
Ironic part is, apart from that bust ACL.. RC got out of the sport, despite his style, without any crazy injuries. Heck, RV has already had more bad ones than RC did in his whole career.

Ryan Dungey is a clean-cut, hard-charging, one-of-the-good-guys-champion.

Of the elite 4, I do think RV and JS are "fractionally" stronger in speed overall than CR and RD. If we were talking outright speed alone, then I personally would currently order them as such....

1.RV
2.JS
3.CR
4.RD

They're all terribly close, as I said it's only fractions.

However although we all know that you need consistency and that speed alone isn't enough to win the war, that doesn't mean it should be downplayed to the realms of almost unimportant. There will be times when it pays off in dividends.

JS will likely crash out a few times and be set back in points. That's not having ago at James but based on history it's a probable scenario. But you can't bank on that. An you certainly can't bank on it with Villopoto - he seems a little more solid than Stewart imo. There can therefore sometimes become a breaking point in the championship chase (usually within the later rounds) when every round becomes a "must win" and being the very very fastest here, is suddenly bloody useful.

Just as with McGrath and Carmichael in 2001. Jeremy couldn't match him in speed so he instead had to rely on Ricky having some sort of a disaster. And although he got close, that disaster just never came. It might not come for Villopoto. There may come a time when Dungey has no choice but to beat him with pure outright speed alone - and so far we haven't seen that pure speed (or aggression) from RD.
This is true. There are certain pivotal races the champ just has to win eh. I forget which race it was, but there was one round last year where all the guys were SO close, a pivotal race late in the season, was up for grabs for all of them and RV just stamped it like a fucking champ. Guess thats what he is. haha. Also like his crushing ride outdoors where he passed Dunge on the last lap, the killed Dungey. And like this year.. first guy to get a repeat win. RV is a ferocious competitor!

Well if you haven't noticed by now, when Dungey knows he won't improve his position at all, he won't continue to push. He won't take any unnecessary risks, ever. It doesn't matter if you finish 1 second back of 3rd or 17 seconds back of 3rd, you get the same amount of points and you lose the same amount of points to your competitors. This style has almost won him 4 championships in 4 tries in the 450 class, so I think he's got something figured out Wink
what he said! dungey is thinking about one thing- the championship! He knows what he's doing

Same as Reed. Which was exemplified in the way he let Stewart pass him on saturday night.
I am not sure that was part of the plan.

Wow! This place is amazing. 5 Points out of first is embarrassing? Can't imagine how embarrassed JGR and that guy in your avatar are right now sitting 8 behind the other embarrassment. Shocked

Dungey should have stayed yellow...he looks slower on that orange thing. He only got lucky winning that race.

Lucky that people made mistakes, lucky that the orange thing didn't have an mechanical issues !

So he's slower on orange and James still trails him in points and it was luck he won that race? I guess getting good starts and staying on 2 wheels involves no skills these days.

Everyone has a bad week now and then. Dungey has fewer of those weeks than most.

Nothing here.
Nothing here? Could be. If the below is true, swapping motors doesn't make for a real confident rider..for whatever reason.

Hmmm... from Observations:

4. Ryan Dungey KTM- I thought that if Dungey had started up front last week, he could have won but this week, not so much. Here’s betting that his week at the KTM track consists of a whole bunch of starts. I also heard that there were a few motor swaps at A2 for whatever reason.

Lots of guys "almost" won championships. Unfortunately for him, his two in the big boy class came when the three guys that are beating him every week were out hurt. Hmmmmm. Makes you wonder.

Reed won his titles when Stewart was injured/part time and RC was part time or retired

I guess you could nitpick every past champions season and say it would of been different if so and so was there.

Not quite, RJ was put into retirement due to nagging injuries.Did MC ever actually race against RJ? MC put Stanton & Bradshaw into retirement. There is always a changing of the guard in every sport. We are in a great time now where there are several guys who can haul ass in both classes.

Wow, guess the downside of a career has gotten better than it used to be... first year on a new bike and getting the first supercross class win for the manufacturer, 3rd in points, and 5 points behind the leader. All while stewie can barely hang onto his bike. Yup, you're right. He's on the downhill slope for sure. IMO

That downside of a career was spotting JS7 16-17 points with a DNF last year and still beat him by 27 points. Shocked
