How do you guys feel when someone gets hurt racing and people criticize how idiotic it is to do that?

If you get busted up racing at some backwoods track with crappy flagging and no safety standards, does that make you an idiot?

I feel bad even for people who get hurt doing idiotic things. The point I made was what they do should not be tied by name to actual motocross racing. Neither should racing at a "backwoods track with crappy etc" be considered MX because it's obviously not sanctioned or the standards would be there. That's not mx, it's really just dirt bike racing.

There is a very real difference between serious sport and what amounts to a sideshow.

I am referring in general to all the criticism here. When you tell someone you got busted up on your dirt bike, you're just another idiot that got busted up on your dirt bike to most of the world. This thread is good evidence.

Have you noticed they show mx race crashes with real races on "Dumbest Stuff on Wheels"? It could be Ricky Carmichael crashing and somebody somewhere would say "there's an idiot." The same as this thread.

But I agree FMX is not motocross. Neither is Supercross. So what?

Motocross and freestyle motocross are totally different sports, and thanks to X-games, a lot more people know that. I race moto and have no real intrest in freestyle, but it's still something I respect, (at a top level; the Pastrana's and Adam's of the sport) it's not easy and takes more than balls. It's not freestyle that gives moto a bad rap, its a bunch POS red necks with '95 CR 250's with beat shit black plastic, jumping a plywood ramp in their backyard that gaps a big pit where they throw their old beer cans and burn old cars.

Sorry, nothing decided by judges with points for "style" is a sport. Oh yeah, figure skating. And FMX. Nuff said.

You are being very hypocritical about the mx thing. You are basically saying that skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, gymnastics, and many other sports are not sports, because they are judged. That is hands down one of the dumbest comments I have ever read on vital, I think I just blew your spot, sorry pal.

It still doesn't make it motocross, it's stunting. Period. It's a stain on real motocross racing and you have no grounding in the sport of motocross...
It still doesn't make it motocross, it's stunting. Period. It's a stain on real motocross racing and you have no grounding in the sport of motocross if you equate this foolishness with it. Assholes do dumbass garbage like this on street bikes as well but they don't embarrass serious racers by calling those fools freestyle moto GP racers.

Yeah yeah yeah. Some rider got hurt and you guys spout this junk. If it was an MX guy, there wouldn't be a dry eye here. But, some of you obviously have double standards for the safety of the fellow human. Nice.

How many people have seen this clip and have no other knowledge about what motocross really is. Then what are the chances they will want to buy little Jonny a bike when he asks for one on his birthday?

Yeah, previous page. Broken femur, wrist, shoulder but he'll be ok. Amazing he even lived through that cuz the way he was spinning through the air he had no control over his landing and could have landed straight on his head.

Not sure I agree. It might weed out the parents who are too fucking lazy to actually look into what they're buying their children. If a child wants to race MX, and his parents are as involved at understanding exactly what that is to the point of swallowing whatever the media feeds to them, maybe that kid shouldn't get a bike until he/she is mature enough to cover for his parents' indifference.

It is a terrible accident but the Shriner circuses do support the Shriners Hospitals for Children which is a worthwhile cause.
Great post.

How much did some of you hard core MX gods raise for the sick kids in the Shriners hospital last week??

Glad to hear that the guy is ok, because that could have been deadly.

On a side note I agree that Freestyle motocross needs to get rid of the motocross tag. There is no doubt in my mind that these guys train and work their butts off to do what they do, however I also believe with FMX being more in the spotlight (xgames, dew tour, etc...), real motocross catches a bad rap and is viewed completely different than what it truly is.

you guys are spot on. How dare FMX gain mainstream attention and attract new blood into the sport. Even worse, those people that buy bikes and gear who otherwise wouldnt have, might even start showing up at local tracks and bring them new business. Down with Freestyle (not)Motocross

I assume the goal of this website is to attract "Noobfaces" such as myself, so someone reads the ads, buys the products, etc., but what do I know, I'm just a Noobface.

How does FMX give motocross a bad rap? Some people on vital are so single minded....it takes just as much skill to be a top FMX rider. My buddies ride our fmx compound probably more than my buddies that ride mx. We ride saturdays and sundays usually from 10am -4pm. And the day you can consistently even jump a 75 foot ramp gap come back and speak your mind. Until then, you have no f'ing clue what some of these guys put into FMX training. The funny thing is you probably swing from Josh Hansen's nuts and call him a racer. I guess Chad is an idiot for doing an FMX backflip....and Ricky is an ass for doing FMX can cans....and Jeremy is an ass for doing FMX nacnacs and superman seat grabs....and KDub is an ass for having his own personal FMX ramps and riding regularly with the FMX guys.....go blow chodemaster....
Don't misunderstand me, I am well aware of how much talent and skill and effort and time and balls it takes to do freestyle. So, I DO have a clue what kind of effort some of those guys put into freestyle. So i'm not knocking the sport or its riders....I'm just saying it isn't motocross.

Motocross is RACING. Freestyle isn't racing and therefore not motocross, and so it shouldn't have motocross in the name. I'm not saying it should go away, or shouldn't exist. I'm just saying it needs to be completely separate from motocross. Motocross isn't a stunt show, and when people see a freestyle "motocross" stunt show, they assume that is what motocross is. And that's my beef with freestyle stunt shows.

The shows had been going on for 8 days and every day they had stage hands to help set up and break the set up down, well this time the person responsible for the high wire must have not been paying attention or called in sick... Either way, you can't tell it's there in the dark, the responsibility is both that of the rider and of the promoter, the rider probably did some assuming in that he thought everything was being handled. . Terrible situation and I hope Josh makes a full recovery.

Damm!!! I bet that first guy is glad he didn't hit that ramp first.

Point is.. we all ride "dirtbikes" doesn't matter if its racing, fmx, trails. Were all in the same boat
