OK ... its a slow day .. and if you can't make sense of any of the back-and-forth going on in the Ryan Hughes Twitter thread, then maybe you will think the is cool.

I was impressed with the amount of tire contact Weimer's bike had here ... it has to be more than a foot of contact ...

It looks more to me like the tire is partially hidden in a rut going up the face of the jump.
Look at Chad's tire.........same thing.

I don't think there is a rut, because you can see all of the knobbies on the contact patch ... plus, the track was hard as cement .. except the patch that swallowed Musquin.

BTW -- I wanted to give credit to the original poster of the photo to photobucket

If they are using a foam inner tube like the michelin system that is available it will cause this.

everytime i see people talking about tire squish, i always think of this picture of me from the lake elsinore GP..(2004) i lost my HD a few years back but luckily i still had this pic on photobucket..

i got both tires squished, not to mention my pegs are almost hitting the road.. probably didn't help that i was pretty heavy in these days...

hopefully the pic works, im not the best at posting pics.

tires are made to do that

That's why you don't over-inflate your tires if you want good traction, and why they say to use a couple psi lower in hard, slick tracks.

Does anyone know what the foam tubes are rated to PSI wise? Do they come in different densities or wear out and become softer?

I have always loved that Bradshaw picture. I like how the rim almost looks like it's flexing. Bradshaw's form is awesome too, toes on the pegs and all.

No wonder he figured he may as well try endurocross. It's closer to supercross tracks in those days than current SX tracks.

I remember seeing a pic of Pastrana a few years ago, he was flat tracking around a corner and the rear tire was flattened right out to the point where it was hard to believe it didnt come off the bead...............

Excessive tire squish can't be good on the rims/spokes.

I try to tell people that low-boy pegs are a bad idea.

Are you still racing this year Bondo? I remember the old days back at Huron on 80's. Every moto we seemed to find eachother and end up in a heap. Yet, those are still some of my fondest memories.

Opposite is true. Low pressure in soft dirt, tire doesn't 'dig', but gets traction. Higher pressure in hard dirt to avoid flats and keep rim damage minimized.
