Dear Ricky,

Please quit with your motocross expertise, reading into the future, and calling passes two straights before they occur.

Just kidding, but is anyone else blown away by his ability to know exactly what's going to happen, sometimes half a straight away in advance? It's also pretty fascinating how he notices the areas riders are picking up tenths of seconds during a lap (Jacksonville '09 between Reed and Stewart). I really like what he adds to the Ralph and Jeff show.

He needs to work on his English a tad to be a commentator. He was good, but had a few mistakes which made him sound kind of dumb to the non-moto crew in my house.

Yeah, the racing sense and knowledge he brings is pretty remarkable. When you think that Emig was a great racer in his own right, and here is Carmichael seeing what Emig isn't, kind of puts into perspective just how good Ricky was mentally.

Did anyone see RC do the "check your fly" at the very start of the broadcast? I got a laugh out of it but he gets a free pass because he the goat. Much better jacket this week.

This is why Bailey wins also.

What about when he was comparing Aluminum frames to Chrome moly frames on hardpack. That was an interesting observation.....

Other than the occasional double-negative, which is like an ice pick in my ears, he's getting better.

Caught that and the "I seen it" also. Not trying to be grammar police, but some people notice.

Brilliant when he made the call on Short's attempt to block Villo ("He's gonna try to block him here, but Villopoto's too crafty for that") and then BAM, Villo, brakes hard, cuts to the inside and loooong gone. I was amazed. No wonder he won so much.

He was as tall as Ralph in the first segment of the show, but in the second part he was shorter. They must have given him a different milk crate to stand on.

Did anyone else hear the portion, near the end of the race, when they were talking about reed? Something to the effect of "well, he's almost 30 now, and he really feels like he couldn't leave the sport right now with all his success". RC then drops "well, i can't think of one good reason to quit the sport while you are still winning this much"

my wife and I both looked at each other, dumbfounded. He would have added at least 3 more championships to his belt by now, if he didn't retire at Orlando in '07

x3, that was irony at it's finest...
i think they are doing a great job also.
i too noticed that a him standing on a platform that was too tall and then lowered it a bit.
I wish ralph woul take just one step back. He is a shoulder width in fron of rc and fro and whenever he alks to one he is totally putting his back to the others face... looks awkward to me. If he just took a step back it would be more of a three way conversation... just seems rude to me...

I think it shows that RC had to work/study it more. Emig was so talented it appeared to be more instinct as opposed to analysis when he rode.

I noticed that instantly as well, but in RCs defense he indeed had a good enough reason: his twins were born that year. Once you have kids, your entire world changes and you realize that there are these little people relying on you 100% and you often need to take a step back and get your priorities redirected.

He did what was right for his family, no matter what the cost.

Yeah I caught that too.

RC was more David Bailey-ish last night and I like that. Compareing frames, seeing guys slideing around, predicting passes 5 seconds before they happen. He was spot-on with his analysis.

I'd rather listen to a CHAMP like RC than a talking head that's never ridden at that level

I do not doubt what he said about that one bit. Ask any cyclist the difference between how a steel frame rides versus an aluminum frame. The difference is huge! I think Dungey even said there was a significant difference in how the bikes felt through the whoops.

That part was cool too. Loved how RC called it and how RV executed it. Short is never known to give up any position to anyone, but RV made it look easy.

Yes, this. I don't understand how he calls things so far ahead. Like it's scripted and he's got a copy.

I thought that was interesting too, especially since every SX track except Daytona is hardpack, right?

Having RC in the booth, and especially asking questions on the headset, really raises the quality of the whole broadcast.
