Two strokes have the best work ethic!

Oh wait... this is the first thread you've ever made that's not just some two stroke propaganda - excuse me while I adjust to this change...

I think RJ, Glover and O'mara had quite the work ethic as well.

I would say throw Jeff Ward in there.

I disagree... RC4 had to work harder than MC and all the others. He didn't have the talent of MC, Tortelli, etc, but he outworked them...

I agree, JW was a die hard trainer and deserves to be on the list...

How do people forget RC before the 250 SX class??? He was THE kid in the Am.'s and in the 125 class and he was chubby then. Not to mention that he was bust'n guys ass outdoors in the 250 class from the start..........when he was chubby. He had to work hard at SX, but he had a ton of talent.

P
James obviously worked harder.

yea because Tom Brady didn't work hard...ridiculous topic.....everyone who gets to the pinnacle of their sport has worked hard at some point to get there.....hard work only gets you so far. The streets are littered with guys who worked their asses off but never got to the professional level in their respective sports because they just didn't have the talent....On the flip side, there are also the guys who had a lot of talent who never worked hard enough. It's a symbiotic relationship and the majority of the Elite have it figured out....in all sports

Tebow is on his way to being a top QB? Better stick to moto.
Yeah, I think he will. Did you read the link? The guy is working harder than the others...
Are you kidding me Tebow, have you not seen Cam Newtons stats, yeah he has more interceptions but he puts the ball in the air hell of alot more, and when Tebow misses Tebow misses by a mile. Plus Tebow has a decent defensive line to work unlike Newton. Newton will be rookie of the year.

Now back to moto DOUG HENRY, no one else in the sport has ever came back from what he has had to battle back from.

While I agree Jordan worked as hard if not harder than anybody else, he had a tremendous amount of talent as well. He still would have been a "good" player in the league without working as hard instead of being arguably the greatest.

Larry Bird probably wouldn't have been in the league without working harder than almost everyone. There's certainly other's out there too, but just throwing his name in the mix.
Jordan got cut from his High School basketball team, I'd say between that time and the height of his career there is a good chance he outworked everybody else...

One time Villopoto got hurt real bad and had to work so freaking hard to win again. He did commentary for Washougal (?) in '10 and admitted that Dungey was fitter than him, and then he buckled the fuck down for 2011.

Also--she's not an athlete, but Lady Gaga probably worked as hard as anyone listed here when she was just getting famous, learning a buncha dance moves and the lyrics to Poker Face. RESPECT.

Jordan got "cut" from the Varsity team and had to play JV as a Sophomore. While it makes for a nice story to say he was cut and battled back from nowhere, he was still playing (JV) and was a McD's All-American his Senior year so he certainly had some skills at the High School level.

Disagree 100%, EastFlorida. I remember in the mid 90's watching a chubby redhead from Florida that embarrased the entire field at Loretta's... more than once.

I doubt that was work ethic at the time, as most 13-14 year old kids didn't spend that much time training during those years. RC had a knack for riding... not that I'm doubting his obvious work ethic (he is the GOAT and that doesn't happen on accident), but he had some talent in his bag too.

Jordan was cut from his 7th grade team. I think that is when the work began.

it is ridiculous to say ANY pro motocrosser doesn't have natural talent.

having freakish biology that allows the use of your entire musculoskeletal system in a constant variety of ways while at max heart rates for exceptionally long amounts of time,
AND
a mind that processes accurately in under nano seconds to incredibly vast input signals
AND
the courage to possess a complete disregard of the consequences of the slightest miscue.
AND
the ability to focus from age 4 until 16 (and beyond) on one goal.

those things separate those who have a shot at winning from everyone else, and they are genetic (maybe the last one has a fraction of environmental elements, but only a fraction).

sure all these freaks must compete against all the other freaks and refinement of those gifts then becomes an issue, but none of them are some untalented joe who happened to make it by working hard.

Lance also has a gift in the form of his ability to absorb oxygen into his blood, or something. I read it in his book, true story. Seriously though, he had that going for him on top of the work thing.

He had access to a wide array of developmental drugs, that were unable to be detected, via drug companies that his foundation poured millions of dollars in to going for him mostly.

Excellent entry. I was gonna add Jason Lawrence, JMB, Ron Lechien, and Eric Sorby. Those guys worked their asses off to get what they had.

Or how about John Daly (golfer)? Guy works harder at golf than ANYONE. Tongue

Forgot Pourcel. LOL!

In all honesty, however, how can ANYONE question RC's work ethic? Seriously? They guy was the total package (talent AND work ethic). Funny what a couple of years of car racing will do to peoples' memories. Jesus.

The hardest thing I think RC had to work at in his career as far as riding ability goes were SX whoops, those things gave him trouble for years but he eventually got them down where he was consistently fast.
