How does he not have a ride yet. He loves kawis and suzukis and I imagine he would ride for cheap. Correct me if i am wrong but Suzuki has a factory effort that was looking to hire james stewart. Why all of a sudden make a go at with just metty what if he gets hurt. I would think hiring tommy for a low cost would be a good move. Give him a 1 year deal!
Then there is the L&M team that only has grant at the moment. They are rumored to be riding kawis. Tommy Hahn is more solid then KC11 any day of the week. I just cant believe he is not signed to any of the these teams. If I owned a team I would be in a fight to make him my second rider!

Compare this to the real estate market, there are people that paid 800K for a house and now they are lucky to get 350K for the same house. There is nobody stopping them from listing that house for 800K, but at the same time, nobody on earth is going to offer them that, they will just go to the house next door and get that one for current market value.
The other side of the coin, a rider like Hahn will have expenses(trainer, practice mechanic, private track/land, motorhome, insurance, etc etc). If he is spending 100K-200K for all that, he would be losing money or riding for free if he signed a deal to ride for that same amount or less. If you owned a team, would it be a business or just a fun and games hobby?
i think he really wanted to ride yellow, but they didn't get anywhere close to what was reasonable for james to sign, even with all the hype that singning would bring......
i don't think suzuki has much to give to a 2º rider, specially since they have one of the best 2º riders out there already......
A rider needs to live where the team is based in order to use the teams track, mechanics, race shop and other resources thats why most of these guys live in Cali or have a part time residence there. If you don't live in Cali full time, guess what, 2 properties to cover rent or mortgages. Those with their own track/land in say Texas or Florida have to maintain that for riding/training/practicing or pay for facilities like MTF, GPF, Carmichael's etc etc. If you are going that route, then your team mechanic is staying where the race shop is, not moving in with the rider, so now, practice mechanic is his own expense, not the team.
All these guys have an agent that takes a cut as well. What about insurance, a family of 4 with a traditional employer that contributes to insurance is still coming out of pocket $400 or more per month on top of whatever their company contributes. What do you think a pro rider, self employeed in a ultra high risk profession is paying? That coverage alone could be $25K or more for the year. To compete at the highest level like these guys do, a lot of this is needed. When people cry out that so and so doesn't have a ride, these are all HUGE underlying factors, so take away the emotion and insert smart business decisions.
For 100K, Hahn is not going to get very far with it, not unless the team is good with just making the main or winning the LCQ, then someone with his natural ability and skill could do that without training, practice, with low risk of injury and living at home and not have much overhead at all.....................there you have it, nothing personal, just business right? I don't know of any team that is willing to pay 100K for LCQ wins and I don't think riders like Hahn are OK with coming to a gunfight with a knife either and that is basically the case I'm making here, it costs a lot more than people think to prepare and sustain these riders for battle every week. If you owned a team, would you be OK paying 100K for LCQ wins or would you expect that 100K to be getting you top 5's?
With that said you your numbers are a little off. I dont think tommy has the over head you are thinking of either. And he has his own places to train and ride when hes not testing in cali. When he is testing in cali he has a place to stay trust me hes not leasing land or having a part time residence because of testing. Last i checked chad reed lives in florida and tests in cali.
The guy said "I would think hiring tommy for a low cost would be a good move." My response was in regards to riding for cheap, look at what these guys spend outside of the team resources, why would Hahn want to ride for free or even lose money? Obviously, there is a heirarchy in terms of talent/skill/ranking and a top 20 rider is not spending what a top 3 rider is and thats why there are riders out there racing. Hahn has won races, so outside of RV, JS, CR, RD, TC, he is in the next "group" or tier. Does he deserve a ride, sure, but people that come on here comapring this rider to that rider don't know the backstory and a lot of times, are not considering these costs.
Are my numbers exact, no, I'm not claiming they are and I don't know Hahn's, I'm just giving average numbers for someone on his level. 100K could be quickly spent by a rider of Hahn's caliber in just preparring/maintaining him for the SX/MX season. People that say "poor so and so, he doesn't have a ride and larry loop out does" while that is unfortunate, do you know all the facts? Has so and so turned down a ride, did so and so reject an offer or counter offer, are there conflicting sponsors, does the team dynamic or location not mesh with so and so's program and he then decides is not a good fit? People here are all emotion.......they don't factor in that this is a business for both the rider and the team. Hahn deserves a ride, sure, everyone lining up does, but numbers and finances are the primary determining factors on who gets what, which believe or not, could include Hahn saying "no thanks" to an offer because financially, it doesn't make sense. I'm not "Ranting" at all. I'm not presenting my side or opinion. These scenarios are reality and happen all the time, not just motocross.
I think DV12 (correct me if wrong) said that each rider on MotoConcepts was worth a $250,000 bill regarding expenses for the year EXCLUDING salary. Who knows what a Hahn would ask compared with Chisolm......and let's not forget that Chisolm just did pretty good in Bercy.
Sx 2011
T.Hahn 17th w/70 total points
K.Chisholm 22nd w/46 total points
Mx 2011
T.Hahn 13th w/140 total points
K.Chisholm 22nd w/68 total points.
That's not my opinion, those are the facts from 2011.
Pit Row
I was on the slow guy track where I belonged. So what color bike were you on today?
KyleChisholm11
haha. I'm not sure I can say. Maybe green? Either way I loved my bike!
That was from this evening between Kyle and Gibby on twitter about riding out at Pala today...
Just sayin'
You're the one that said Chisholm was a more solid pick because Hahn is always hurt.
I simply pointed out that Hahn finished ahead of Chisholm in both series last year.
And why did Hahn finish in front of Chisholm, because Hahn was hurt less than Chisholm last year.
And sometimes the best pick doesn't always get or want that ride(Reed).
And face it,King of Bercy (arenacross) doesn't mean anything.
When you gettin that Oh 12 kawi
