Fast forward to the 1 min 17 mark and watch the corner speed of Mackenzie. Hes one of those riders that could just take your breath away. If he could concentrate for more than 20 minutes he would have been a champion.

When I first saw J-law ride back in ?2006? at shoug the kids talent was glowing. I remember in the qualifier he came from way back of the pack to 2nd or so only to collide with J-rod in the whoops and go down after leaches lump.

As far as Local natural talent Lance Smail gets my vote. Dude used to stand up the whole race 100% of the time and beat everyone by a long shot at friday night races back in the day.

Great shout. Herring was so good, Everts said if he rode like he did in the British Championship in the World Championship he would have been World Champion. I think Rob said in an interview that it almost came to easy for him at times so he never had the work ethic he needed.

He had the opportunity to ride for Factory yamaha in the US in 87 I believe but the Americans didn't think he would be accepted because he wasn't American.

I think he won ten British Championships some GPs and the MXDN... still a great career.

The most naturally talented riders for me are Everts, Pourcel, Windham, Bayle, Ramon, Stewart, Reed - Joel Robert as well was apparatnly all natural talent.

From NI it would be Alan Morrison and Gordon Crockard.

Fish....Lance was ( still is! ) One bad ass SOB on a dirt bike! One cool dude to hang out with a drink some beers to. I have some buddies of mine who do a lot of the WORCS stuff ( used to ) and they knew Lance better than I did. Not only a super fast dude on a bike.....but just a really cool dude in general.

Is this Robert? Never saw him in person but I used to read stories about how he would show up half drunk and hung-over just before the gate dropped after being up all night partying, put out his cigarette(s) on the gas tank and proceed to leave everybody in the dust. Imagine having to wrestle that pig of a bike with about 3 inches of suspension travel (flat tire and all) around the track for 40 minutes plus 2 laps like they did in the old days. That's talent!

When I think of Natural talent, who could ride any bike, not factory bikes to a podium, two guys come to mind, and I am not saying the other riders aren't good, but you said natural talent, their pics have been posted:

Ron Lechien and Marty Tripes, there is your natural talent.

Exaaactly!
Reminicent of the Bayle/Stanton era.
I'd have to go with J Robert, M Tripes, JM Bayle and R Lechien.
Pick 'em. :-)

There is no such thing as a "naturally talented" pro (in the true sense of the phrase). by the time someone reaches the pro level, they have spent thousands of hours riding a motorcycle and perfecting their skill. the only way you could even measure "natural talent," is to score someone on the first few hours of riding the motorcycle. everyone in this thread has spent years on a motorcycle.

robbie reynard's sister once came on here and posted an amazing paragraph explaining how much hard work, hours, and sweat went into her brother developing his effortless riding style. wish I knew where it was; it was epic!

Damn, C-Pour should be in the US racing. We are really missing out being able to watch a awesome talent.

Fisher was stupid not to hire him straight from Pro Circuit.

Joel robert was the most talented rider on this side of the pond EVER. (not enough knowledge of US MX history)

yes, more talent than Everts.

They used to start with your left hand on your helmet, they didn't have starting gates.

after the gun shot, you pull your clutch, put it in gear and of you were.

Robert just hit his shifter, popped a wheelie and took the holeshot, hand still on his head. That's how good he was.

And yes, he was either puking, hung over or still smoking when it was time to prep your gate.

I know Kyle Lewis didn't have a incredible style or win alot at the National level, but as far as natural talent goes he has got to be up there. I actually raced Kyle in his first ever race. It was 1978 or 79 (i think i was on a 79 RM60) and I had been racing for over 4-5 years and was a winning 60 intermediate rider at the time. I wasn't the fastest thing on two wheels by no means, but I lived at Indian Dunes and had been racing for years, so it wasn't a easy pill to swallow when a kid blows by you in his first ever race.

Dungey, Villopoto, and Canard at MXoN in Colorado last year?

Ah, ok. Where was the MXoN held in '09? The numbering system of the MXoN throws me off but I should've noticed by the pipe that the CRF was a 450
