Thanks everybody for your input. I raced Cedric Soubreyas when I did an SX in Germany January of this year. He is extremely fast on the two stroke. Especially on the SX track we were racing on, it was super tight and that KTM killed it in those conditions. I don't know how much of a donation it would take to land somebody in my graphics, I haven't thought about it. If you want to email me and chat about it we can. Yes, I am going to race all the rounds!! Any other questions or comments feel free to ask people. Thank you everybody else for being so positive about the idea!

Your avatar should be a picture of a catastrophic failure in a four stroke engine.

Yes! Good choice.. Can't wait to see a two stroke in a race again. Would have been cooler if you rode a 125 though Wink

Good luck with your plan.

(p.s. why the anonymous avatar? - go for something as bold and personal as your ambitions)

$100 top end?

Piston kit: $185 (piston, rings, circlips, wrist pin)
Gaskets: $15
Roller bearing: $14

Its still cheap by 4 stroke standards but it is not $100.

Good luck and kick some butt.
Your math is based on retail prices, I just did my 2 smoker top end through calling a few cool sponsors and it cost me $92, and $17 of it was shipping. Rember even privateers get special pricing.

Hi my name is Joey Rossi,

I ran the lites class in the 2011 Outdoors Nationals, I had a pretty good season as a privateer. My four stroke blew up four times, at Southwick and Lakewood I was running in the mid teens, three laps to go it grenaded. Thousands of dollars each time. As a privateer this was devastating. Its very difficult to compete against guys who have 17,000 cranks alone, and numerous motors to exchange. I think the experience that I have gathered through this 2011 season has led me to the conclusion that the teams and privateers that continue to run a four stroke, in this economy, are not sustainable with the high cost. I have made a choice to run a KTM 250 two stroke in the Supercross class, and will continue into the outdoors on it. My reasons for doing so are:

1: The bike is 30 pounds lighter than a 450.
2: The bike is 2,500 dollars less off the MSRP than a 450.
3: The bike is nimble and flick able.
4: The top end only costs me 100 dollars, and my dad can do it.
5: Probably the most important, its soooo much fun to ride!

Your question may be, "Can I be competitive on it?", and the answer is a big, "Yes". I raced an 09 KTM 250sx in the A class's, through the regionals , specifically the Mill Creek south east regional, and Lorettas. Here is the link to the result: http://www.racer-results.net/results/mxsports/2009/AreaRegional/results…. Also at Lorettas, both 250A and 250 Pro Sport, top tens. I am hoping by me doing well in the Supercross class, that other teams and privateers will begin to wake up and run this wonderful bike before its to late.

If you would like to be a part in bringing back the excitement of the two stroke sound, the competitiveness of the bike, and affordable racing, any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated. I have set up a pay pal account. Any large contributions can certainly put you on my website and graphics. That is a promise.

Joey, I'm loving your idea and I'm thinking now that I'm half owner of Outlaw Motocross and given the fact that were working on putting together our 2012 team that maybe there's a spot for sending some support your direction, pm me with your contact info and I will have someone call you to see about meeting and finding a spot for you on our team. Either way good luck and good job keeping the 2 smoke dream alive.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but I think you'll be lucky to make the main at A1 or any other SX in 2012 riding a 2stk. Don't get me wrong I love 2stks, currently own a RM250 and have owned several YZ and SX KTM's so I'm not a 4stk nut hugger by any means. The SX tracks being built now are more "tuned" for 4stks, they have alot of short runs with longer distances between the jumps. Not to mention the majority of the tracks are hardpack and traction will be an issue. I don't see a modded 250 2stk holding a candle to a factory 100k 450 in any situation. I wish you best! But I'm a glass half empty kind of guy and just call it as I see it. Will be looking for you come A1.

Best of luck,
yota

seeing as he races SX he might already know all that.

I'm convinced that a 250SX is a considerable weapon in Supercross. Soubeyras was kicking a-- in SX on it. Anyone would IMO. Excited for you! What's the latest, Joey? Have you gotten the bike yet?

I know if I were allowed to race my PC built YZ280 in Supercross I could do some damage.

I would like to see you ride honey lake against our 450 rider if you are ever in northern Nevada. He set the record there, would love to see if you can beat it.

I'd like to see the first person who would try to claim cheating on a YZ280 LOL. I got beat on my 450cc bike, I think he has a big bore.
