Hasn't CP quit the race like the last 4 times he has started??? Maybe Fisher was on the right track...

I wish we could settle for having real people in this sport instead of having to have angels on one side and demons the other every time there are different stories or a dispute without some definitive explanation.
I think he is neither an Angel or Demon and certainly not the God some of these Nut swingers think either.

It has worked in the past, but I think this decision was more about what Christophe wanted, money-wise, and what Kawasaki had to offer, budget-wise. Sometimes it works great -- Stanton and Bayle didn't like each other but won, and same goes for Hannah and Glover, Bailey and Johnson -- but sometimes it doesn't. (And Mitch Payton makes it work all of the time, though at a slightly lower level.)

No one second-guessed Christophe's pure skills here, it was just a bad time for finding those high-paying 450 jobs (ask Chad Reed and BT101). I still believe that Christophe will come back some day and exact some serious vengeance on the teams that spurned him, regardless of the bottom lines of why he got passed up, and that's going to be a great storyline...

I assume you know more than us combined, and it's damn hard for us to weight what took place between the two, other than CP constantly saying he newer even got an offer from Fisher? If that holds any water the repeated budget-wise/money-wise is hard to grasp for me at least. Sure, CP said he didn't want to ride for "pocket money", and the rumor said he wanted MUCH, and he said it needs to be worth it ($). But we also know in the end Motoconcepts manage to spit it out what CP was asking the second time, while Fisher dodged another opportunity (?) and at that time we didn't know RV was going to win the outdoors title as well? I assume CP still wanted the Kawi ride?

Looking back, putting all cards on RV obviously paid off, but with the same skepticism I criticize CP in the Motoconcepts deal I feel there's some fishy business with Fisher as in him obviously sucked in his communication to CP, and based on recent events it feels like CP is not Fishers only critic?

But sure, it makes sense there was not enough money for both CP and RV despite me not knowing anything about how much CP asked for, or what RV got and big that pile of cash was...

IMO that's less about CP than some people's need to gin up another great white GP hope to stand in as the better-than-any-American rider of the day.

He's definitely an awesome rider who will contend for wins against any field on any day. He can beat anyone racing today, as can AC, RV RD, CR, JS, TC, etc.. But he's got the same problem Stewart does in that enough people have decided they don't like him, for real and imagined reasons, and can't separate whatever they don't like from his talent, and there's enough self-created drama to muddy that up.

For most of us, it really should be "so what." It's a better race if he's in it, and if he's not in the race he doesn't matter. That's his problem, not mine.

I was just basing it off what Christophe said in the interview, and that was that they didn't want him in the team full stop. And that they never even offered him a ride to know what CP would have said.

To me to refuse point blank that CP goes on the team before prices are even talked about is stupid.... if it was due to an amalgamation of the things you said when negotiations with CP started then ok but that didn't seem to be the case.

And yes, I agree that RV is also awesome, but if I was the boss I would have tried my hardest to get them both on the team before going to Weimer if there was no way of securing CP. ( who is also a good rider) But from what Christophe says in that interview they never ever wanted him to begin with... that is what I find stupid. Having CP and RV on the same team would have been like RJ and DB in the 80s or JMB and Stanton in the 90s. It also seems that Ryan and Christophe get on ok too, so that may not have been as big a problem as some may have thought.

You don't lose your job at Kawi when you win two titles for no reason, so it sounds like Fisher had personal issues with not just CP. Mitch also fell out with them over than pipe deal. Pourcel is different but I think he is pretty honest about things.

Also it sounds like Pourcel was not to happy with his agent either.... people have been very quick to criticise Pourcel all year without hearing his side of the story, and if he still has Mitch on his side willing to help him, I am going to tend to believe him...at least to a certain extent, because Mitch doesn't suffer fools.

Just because I join in most of the discussions about Pourcel it doesn't make me a nut swinger. I don't really have favourites, I have riders I admire and Pourcel happens to be one of them, but its more the fact that I find him and these kind of incidents intriguing.

Like FTE I don't understand why people feel the need to separate riders into either a 'good' or 'evil' pile. Its childish.

I suggest it's more challenging for us all to see the shades of gray and as in CP saga. Like I see him being close to divine on wheels, but maybe semi-retarded in communication. But being fan of the actual riding maybe the fact that a majority of riders are sub achievers intellectually, I say whatever to the BS between him and Genova.

Face it, most people would probably ditch that challenge and either decide CP is all good (Motoconcepts and DV sux), or bad or go for the easy way out as in Canard who is both excellent on track and in pits...

1. Hate CP (most popular here)
2. Love CP unconditional (none?)
3. Love CP the rider, but feel no fear addressing short comings (me for sure).

FTE, for all his great attributes, is lacking a bit in what we in the consulting business used to call the "A-hole" factor. Without it, Brutus never could have put the knife in. Lumping individuals into good or evil piles might be childish, but man, it sure is fun and satisfying . . .

You see my pommie friend, here in the good ol' USofA we like to do the following: artificially build celebrities up to heights untold then knock them down into the abyss until they cry uncle, rinse and repeat until we die . . . cuz that's the way America rolls . . .

Do you guys don't find this a awkward quote: "The Japanese want me but if some guy in the factory team says I'm no good you can't make it happen." And now a little year later that guy: Mike Fisher is fired.

Fisher's got bosses and I spoke to one of them on more than a few occasions about CP. He was in the same camp as Fish and said that they salary demands were too big. There wasn't ever any sort of compromise from team CP.

Not the first time Kawasaki's done this. They loved Byrne but when he wouldn't agree to a certain salary, they signed Ferry. When Stewart's contract came up, they knew they couldn't pay it and knew they had RV in the wings and went in that direction. When RC's deal came up, they knew they had Stewart and didn't make an effort to keep RC. Although on this last one, I'm not 100% that RC didn't want out anyways.

Always two sides to a story. The "tactics" of CP's old agent threw more than a few managers for a loop as well although hard to say if he was acting on his own behalf or did what his client asked him to do.

Yeah... because things would have panned out EXACTLY how the MotoConcepts thing went down huh.

Just ignore the fact Pourcel had been practicing on a KXF450 for the best part of two years, absolutely loved the bike and really wanted to ride for factory Kawasaki in America, on a bike he was familiar with....

The MotoConcepts deal was a real shame for everyone involved, it was a mess. But you can't suppose the same thing would have happened wherever he went - which is what a lot of people seem to want to believe in order to justify their illusion of Pourcel being some kind of poisoned chalice.

you are just looking for a reason... Let CP's skills and heart re sell him to the US market... We like it when you go fast, but when you trip up, and do something stupid and then make excuses and play the blame game, we tend to enjoy the fall, and the "I told you so", will begin... Change and longivity will get it back, here... I love his ability, but, I think... my opinion is, that he thinks he is bigger than himself, a little humility will buy a ton of respect... I think TC won that one(C'ship)... I have them all on dvr... every round, it sure looked like CP was going to win it, but, he didn't...They both had a tough season and TC finished... TC showed nothing but humility the entire season... Just because of the great season that it was, I have watched it, the entire season, over and over, 4 or 5 Saturdays...

AC is a super humble champion, CP should take notes... Even M. Pichon changed his ways, got his head straight, and started to win... The talent was always there, but, the head has to follow... It is called "accountability"...

I think a lot of guys are far too hard on CP, Fisher was also stupid for not wanting him on the team or even making him an offer. The guy is a genius on the bike.
Fisher: "YOU WANT HOW MUCH?!!!!!"

Pourcel: "2 meeeellion dollars" (with pinky to lips)

Fisher: "I'm thinking $200 grand."

[I'm picturing the guy on Pawn Stars when he lowballs people with dollar signs in their eyes.]

Of course TC won it. But I recall (from TV + footage from RacerX), Pourcel showed a lot of 'humility' in defeat. Even asked for one of TC's 'Every Moto Counts' T-shirts. Pretty good sportsman ship for a guy thats just bust his shoulder and lost a title. Point is, he has shown plenty of humility already.

I thought so too!

Then for his next trick, he outprices himself out of a ride (apparently while still too injured to race the SX series) and when he does find a spot pulls out of races while running pretty good and then has some sort of fiasco occur with the team. He wasn't ready to go when the Nationals started, let alone SX. He was winning a lot of people over in 2010 and then.......?

Nobody even mentions (that I've seen anyway) that he was negotiating with teams as if he'd be ready to go at A1. Was he going to sign with someone and then inform them that he was still recuperating? Or was his huge ask only for outdoors? Either way, not much humility to be asking so much FIRM and knowing you aren't ready to be worth it currently.

IMO Pourcel is the 3rd fastest rider in the world.

Its blind insight like this that aids CPs shortcmings and will insure his uphill battle, if he ever tries it again over here... Losing it the way that he did, tends to bring out humility... The kind of humility I'm speaking of is not temporary... It lasts longer than a few months... It is the kind of humility that takes hold for the long haul... There is no excuse that you can make for him, no matter how distorted you try to make it seem... It is pure selfish intent and denial on anyones part, that excuses this at this level... He'll change and when he does, watch out,(figuratively) in spite of all of us, and our worthless opinions...

Burnside has a worthless opinion ... How funny ...

Dear Broman64,

What ever people say about Christophe Pourcel, you will never stop hating the 2006 World Champion and 2time East-Coast Lites Supercross Champion. It doesn't really matter what people say to you, you will search till you find something and if you doesn't find something you will create something and then say: You see those fans are "ass....", thats why I'm a hater... But what is the real reason ...

Is it because your wife thinks about him when you two are having sex?
Is it because he has overcome things where you would fail?
Maybe it is because he has achieved things where you even in your dreams in failed?

Or is it because he came from that retarded Europe to America and won his second AMA SX ever against Ryan Villopoto and won a ESX championship after a year of nothing ...

So give me one legit reason why you hate him and don't say: "His fans"... Because that would be lame ... Very lame...
Bye the way a little question for the real guy here on the board: Broman did you ever talked with CP377?? If I read your insights I'm thinking that you are his shrink but I just wanna know: did you talk with him ...
