Congrats man. This one's for you.

-------------------------LYRICS------------------------
When you feel you're alone
cut off from this cruel world
your instincts telling you to run

listen to your heart
those angel voices
they'll sing to you
they'll be your guide
back home where life leaves us blind
love keeps us kind
it keeps us kind !

when you've suffered enough
and your spirit is breaking
you're growing desperate from the fight
Remember you're loved
and you always will be
this melody will bring
you right back home

When life leaves us blind
Love, keeps us kind!
When life leaves us blind
Love keeps us kind!

Ohhhhhh Ohhhhhhh!
Ohhhhhhh Ohhhhhh!
Ohhhhhh Ohhhhhhh

I don't think they'll let me be an organ donor. I know I can't be a blood donor. Spent too much time in England during the 80's (and ate the beef), and therefore am forever a suspect as a carrier of "Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy".
I am not allowed to give blood either, after my accident i had 2 transfusions and it was just before they had full thorough screening for AIDS. As you can imagine that scared the hell out of my parents. I forget the details on how they went about it. Only way i found out was way back in highschool they had a blood drive and i was denied because of it, things may have changed by now, i have no clue.

I want to be a donor, to give Travis Pastrana my knees! they have low miles on them and i dont need em Cool

FTE, I've known you for quite awhile now. If anyone deserved the gift you were given, it is you. You're a gentleman, a scholar, and all-around good guy. You inspired me to be a donor, no kidding -- specifically my heart, brain, rectum, and, of course, the meat stick -- and pretty much anything else they want to scavenger off my bones . . .

Did I ever tell you your my Hero??

Wow!!! Congratulations FTE... Michael, out of curiosity. What is the over and under for life expectation after the transplant you got?

Thanks all! No definite time frame. Statistically, half the people with a heart transplant have died by the ten year mark, so I'm in gravy time. It's about 5% a year after that. They start thinking about the possibility of retransplant at 20 years if you're still around if the usual long term issues have run their course. I don't really know that I'll go that course; the surgery and post op meds are pretty brutal and far more so the second time around with no guarantees it won't put the pedal to the floor on things going bad. I'll have had a pretty good lifetime by then and way more time than I would have had otherwise.

But I have had a remarkably uncomplicated experience compared to some folks, and who knows what they'll have in the drug arsenal then. Just try to balance doing what I can and what I want against what I any pay-your-way citizen has to do in the ordinary course of life. Things could go great or go sideways tomorrow, but that's true for all of us.
I admire your attitude for sure. I have been diagnosed with a kidney disease have an 80% chance of needing a transplant down the road so it refreshing to to see your outlook. You'd be surprised who many people just get depressed about, I don't have time for that, live life and let what happens happen.

After being diagnosed, I seen the importance of being a donor and went to the DMV and put it on my license. Nice story bro, hope to read your post in another 12 years.
