Villopoto...GOAT Jr.?

This RV guy is badass. comes back from a traumatic leg injury, wins SX and MX championships in the most gnarly year ever. then comes through in the clutch at the MXdN. did you see how many times RV and RD hugged and high fived? Awesome. and RV doesnt try to act fake he is as real as it gets. I am laid up right now with a broken hand broken teeth (a la Davalos..i feel your pain literally) and I am looking at RV's comeback as an inspiration. Go ryan in 2012, what a class act.

He's got a long way to go to be considered that way. But he is on his way. He is winning championships and so forth , but he isn't dominating to the point of what RC did. More or less competition?......who really knows. Either way.....RV will be considered one of the greatest when his career is over. You could say the same thing about RD and Reed as well!

Easy to forget how serious that leg injury was too. What a BEAST.

I doubt any racer will match RC's winning records in this day and age, theres more depth now. I doubt even RC could pull it off even if he had been born 5 years later. . But, RV has that true champion tenacity that RC had, he is such a fierce, solid competitor and seems to win when it counts. Like when SX was still open and up for grabs in the closing stages, he crushes everyone. And with the Nationals, when it counted, when Dungey needed to be winning races, he slammed the door in his face. And that ride at Pala, did he really need to win that first moto? Think there are a lot of guys that would have played it safe there. Guess he wanted to hammer the nail in the coffin! RC style!

Any one else notice how his style differs from the rest? I noticed a few times that on some corners, he uses the rear wheel to propell around and out, making it insanely fast. Instead of braking in, getting in the rut, and going, he brakes, then slams the throttle to get around. I will try to fiind a vid to back this up, but in the JS7 shadow, big james talks about how he(Villopoto) drives it from the rear as well.

Yeah you are spot on!

I think it was RC that said the best way to cut your lap times is through the corners.
It's like a 2 stroke style of riding steering with the rear wheel

The pass that Villopoto put on the Russian guy at the beginning of moto 3 of the MXDN reminded me of something RC would do. It was obvious the Russian (can't remember his name) was going to be a road block, but Villopoto was in no mood for games. He forced himself by and checked out. .....

He makes things happen RIGHT NOW. .......like RC used to.

I always read about about people bagging on RV, Bagget and so on about there podium interviews or interviews in general. RV is just serious as is Dungey.. They dont have to much to say they take there trade very serious like RC did and go the extra mile for everything they do to prepare for battle. RC is the GOAT nobody will ever take that away, times change and so does the raw talent of young mxers coming up.. You have this new crop of kids also like Wilson, Bogle that had guys like RC and Stewart to look up to and try to copy there styles in some way. Its evolution it just keeps getting better.
Im a big fan of RV and RD for completely different reasons but one reason that does have to do with both of them is there hunger to be the best.

goat is a bit of a stretch right now, but the he and RD are class acts. Well spoken, well presented, genuine nice guys. Its good to see people at the top of their sport be as humble and classy as these two guys are right now.

Wrong he raced 2009. Raced GH and Freestone before getting hurt. RC won every outdoor series he raced in. RV is a bad mofo but there's only won GOAT for a reason

RC set the bar so high I'm not sure anyone will be able to touch it.

Any rider that misses a season due to injury, or doesn't win an outdoor championship they compete in, or goes their career without even one perfect national season falls short

OK? I'm not sure where you are headed with this. If it ended tomorrow , he would of still had a great career , even though it was cut short. Like I was saying , he has to stay pretty dominant over these next 5-7 years to be able to compete up against what RC did. What he has done so far , has been pretty awesome. The only part really missing is longevity I guess.

Chris....he raced GH , but at the second round , he never made it past practice. His knee went out , and that was the end of the season. It was an old injury he had been dealing with for years , that finally came to a head. He never had a chance to really even start that season. Even Emig pointed out at the beginning of "this" season....."You can consider RV a rookie in the 450 class , because he missed his first two seasons". Some will disagree with that , but I don't really. He got to race the first round ( which he won btw )....but couldn't compete the rest of the season. Either way.....he seems to be doing pretty good right now I think.

I think EV is on his way to Goat jr for sure. He championships won to series entered is very high. One of the best best races of all time was anne he chased Allessi down at GH his first outdoor 450 ride right before he hurt his leg. RV is on his way...

By that logic Ricky lost the 2007 outdoor championship to Grant Langston by simply choosing to not show up. So that ended his streak and took away his undefeated outdoor title streak.

He's a lot like RC huh.. He does what he needs to do when he needs to do it. I think the kid is unreal. But next year is going to be so tough for him. He's the man now, and they always say it's harder to regain your championships.

Changing the subject.. Did anyone else see Dungey give Goose the cold shoulder after that last moto yesterday? Goose went to give me a high five and Dungey saw him and turned his back to him...!
