Paulin did win a moto on the 450 in '09 and he was hauling ass last year at thunder valley so he definitly won't be a weak link..
No matter what team they choose, they are going to be very hard to beat on home soil.

Putting Pourcel on that team would be the same as putting Stewie on the team last year. Pourcel has done nothing to deserve a spot, besides put up a couple of decent results of late. BIg fucking deal. Tony doesn't have to beat him right now. If they put him on that team, good luck getting riders next year. They have a great team, a team that deserves to be there, and that counts IMHO.
You do understand that it`s not a exhibition race and France actually thinking how to win it. All that "deserve" crap is for pioneers and boyscout`s. You do what ever to win and you put together a team that can win. His decision is Paulin, Musquin and Frossard and it`s not because they deserve it, it`s because Oliver thinks that it`s a strongest team right now.

Or he doesn't want CP's drama.

Paulin on a 450 won the MX2-MX3 moto at the MXdN 09 in Italy beating Philippaerts, Tedesco, Ramon, Leok, Musquin, Nagl, Rattray, Roczen and more.
He'll be fine on the 450.

Actually he`s been supporting Pourcel since his 65 and 85 day`s. Oliver had a big influence in Pourcel`s career.

Yeah I know. Olivier had influence on a lot of current French riders.

Pourcel has had better results this year than Musquin so far, How does Musquin deserve to get on the team ahead of Pourcel based on results? Pourcel is the best French rider right now along with Frossard, France imo will not send their strongest team if he doesn't go.

I think Paulin deserves the MX2 spot going by results this season, and nearly he won the French GP this season at the same track. It is unfortunate Marvin got hurt, he is coming back to form now but I think either would be a good choice for MX2, because you can't ignore Musquin's potential when he is at 100% either, the question is, will he be 100% in less than two weeks.

The guys on the team certainly deserve to go,Pourcel has had his problems and done well to overcome them, just like Musquin but without Pourcel they are can't at their strongest

I agree with McRead, Pourcel has proven himself more than Musquin in the last few races. Funny they picked Musquin so early really.

Pourcel this year for French team, has nothing to do with JS last year for US team. Definitely.
Since august, Pourcel has proved who is the current best french rider. (this was quite predictable...)
Olivier Robert choose to do without the best french rider for this race, this year.

If France want to beat America they need Pourcel! Otherwise everyone may hand the USA the team victory now. Both Frossard and Pourcel on paper could beat RV or Dungey, Paulin wasn't on the pace last year on the 450 yamaha compared to when he was on the 450 Kawaski, and while he has the potential to run with the Americans for sure, Pourcel is a more sure footed option on the big bike especially given his recent run of results in MX1 and the fact he has beaten both Dungey and RV before so will have no intimation factor.

Paulin for me would be better sticking to the MX2 bike for the race. I think the debate should be Paulin or Musquin for MX2, Paulin is more deserving based on this season, but Musquin has unfilled potential this season and two world titles to his name, I think both could run with potentially beat Baggett if they ride their best. But CP should be in the team without a thought.

I'm sure Olivier thinks its the best team, and I understand that this isn't some exhibition contest. Everyone is jumping up and down about Pourcel as of late, what b/c he has topped a decimated field in MX1 with the title long decided? As for Musquin, he actually worked his way into racing shape through racing, not pulling off and quitting for the majority of the season. This is what I mean by "deserve", and if you think not earning a spot is acceptable, then good luck putting a team together, b/c that is what this is-a team competition. Let Pourcel earn a spot next year by actually racing the whole season, be it MX1 or AMA, then he will get selected. If he came out of the gate when he moved into MX1 and started winning, okay, you can make the argument.

Now that he's on form (and assuming Frossard is uninjured) I would pick Pourcel over Paulin. And that's no reflection on Gautier because he's an awesome rider and almost always capable for knocking out a good result. It's just that Pourcel is extremely fast right now and is looking much more like his old self. I think you simply must have CP on the team with his current form, which is worlds apart from earlier in the year. He's too strong a resource for France not to take advantage off.

I wouldn't automatically dump Paulin either though. I agree with McCread in that any swapping of riders should be in regards to the MX2 position. I think it depends on how Musquin does in Pala. If he's really flying and an actual threat for the win - then OK, go with Marvin. But that remains to be seen. Don't get me wrong Marvin rode very well at Steel City and it was a definite improvement. But he wasn't really in contention for the win either. At his best Musquin is an unbelievable rider but right now I would pick Paulin ahead of Marvin.

Either way it's a nice problem to have.

Pourcel in,
Frossard stays,
Musquin for Paulin if he goes better at Pala than at Steel city

Tough choice and unfortunate for someone, but that's got to be the only way to send their best team,

If they are serious about beating team usa they really need Pourcel. He is the only one capable of beating both Ryans when he is on it.On the other hand Paulin on a mx3 is capable of getting 2nd in MX3 for sure so they don't loose many points in that class.
Musquin can go either way so it might all come down to Dungey vs Frossard

Best choice in my opinion would be MX2 Paulin MX1 Frossard MX3 Pourcel

i guess olivier has doughts about how pourcel can rebound from a bad start or a early crash.......
cp has been on it latelly but the fact is that when things are not right he just pulls over, he is not on a points chase so he just goes out for the wins, he doesn't have to ride a bent bike to salvage a point or two, does he even have the mindset to do that this year..???
mxdn is a team race and you can only have 1 bad moto from all 6 of them.....
i think olivier is playing it safe and going with the 3 riders that give confidence of doing everything possible for the team result, maybe pourcels personality is biting him a bit here, maybe he should have shown to be a bit more of a team player if he wanted to be on a team race, the personality he has shown latelly is dangerous on this race.....
it would have been epic for the french if pourcel got a win over the americans after all that went on......but i can understand olivier, his job is to manage team france and try to win a team race against a stronger team, confidence will be the key and mistakes will cost millions.........

When was the last time a host country besides the U.S. had the opportunity to celebrate a home win?
