Okey, so the bike is great, suspension was a little soft, power was good.
-Plastics are destroyed, haven't had any crash that tears them apart, just my boots and knees pretty much did all the work.
-At ten hours the clutch start slipping. (pro circuit springs)
-At 18 hours, the inner seal of the left fork broke and all the oil came out.
-at 30 hours the gear box broke into pieces.
Yes, i did changed the engine oil every 4 hours and washed the air filter every time i rode.

Now i can't ride like for a freaking week. Let the good times role. Kawasakkii!!
edit: and the new gear box is like $900.

that sucks. And the worst part is this isnt the first time Ive read the 30 break down. Bummer for sure. Hopefully they will recall it and it will be covered. Go to thumpertalk and get the info of the guys on there that had the same luck and bring it to your dealer and see if they will warranty. You never know.

Every Yamaha that I have had (eight 4 strokes and two 2 strokes) have been bulletproof. Regular maintenance but nothing crazy. Hard to talk me out of the brand.

Don`t tell him that!
I have a 2011 350f down and got my new 2012 250 sxf last week... It worked 4.9 hours and now its down too, most likely due to a problem with the fuel injection (wich is very common on the KTM 250 fs). So now I have one playbike left, the sx 125 but its not the same to race the playbike.

I recommend him to go with honda or suzuki.

Didn't you know that the Japanese OEM's have been putting special weaker, low hour transmissions in their four strokes?

Agreed. I put 150 hours on a 2007 Yamaha 250F while I was racing the B class, and all I did was put one piston in it, change the oil every 2-3 hours, and change the filter every ride. I rode the thing hard too; I would bounce it off the rev limiter all the time, and I never used to clutch to downshift. I have a 2011 Yamaha 250f right now, and, while I know the Suzuki is probably a better 250f, it's hard to switch.

I bought my 2010 crf 250 last October. Easily have 200+ hours on it. Only thing I've done besides filter and oil is a clutch. And I race the b class and I'll admit I'm pretty hard on it. Still haven't had to put a piston in it. If I end up getting into LL then I might put a piston in then

Really? I mean really? Every 3 rides instead of every 4 hours? Really? Three rides can easily go over 4 hours of running engine time. And yes on the moto track. The desert is a diff story.

People get lemon's every once in awhile, it happens, no way around it. I had an 05 crf250 that was great...when the internals weren't in pieces.

My Briggs and Stratton is also 200+ hour. I am also pretty hard on my grasscutter. If a bike last 200 hour without changing piston stop count the hours from when you load the bike for practice at home?

I change my oil after about ever 2 -3 hours depending on how hard I was riding and where I was riding it at. I change the filter every other oil change as well. By the 3 hr mark.....that oil has been pretty abused. These 4 strokes run HOT , always will. They destroy the oil quick , so it's better to be ahead on the oil changes.

Kawi just covered my 2011 450 that lost the bearing behind the countershaft at 9 hours. It has taken 6 weeks but it is getting done free of charge.

Mine has only got about 7 hours on it now and im completely amazed at how much better then my 09 it was you might have just got a lemon! This one shifts way better and is all around better. The transmission on my 09 however did let go to but that was at well over 100 hours good luck!

At 200 hours of racing/practicing, you should be putting a crankshaft in it and counting your lucky stars that it hasn't ejected out of the cases yet.
