also narrowly missed breaking my neck in a severe endo and was left unconscious and not breathing on my own for 12 minutes. smashed my face up and had a blood clot in my eye for 2 months.
had a testicle swell 4 sizes above normal, about the size of an orange.
not moto related, but one of my most gnarly was a shooting accident, got some ricochet from a 12 guage and shot out my right eye, was blind for 4 months in one eye until my vision just miraculously came back in the course of a week.

Fifth gear pinned around a blind turn, to find that a tree had fallen and was sticking out like a harpoon. It went through my radiator and stopped at my frame. I have no clue how far I flew, but I bet it was probably pretty far!
Theres a decent story behind what happened, its pretty long and dont wanna waste anyones time, but if you wannna hear it let me know.

Plus I was lucky that the track I crashed at was near a major urban center and I could get to a good hospital really quick. Had it happened at one of the more remote tracks we raced at I doubt I'd be telling the story.
They pumped 3.5 times the amount of blood a body can hold through me to keep me alive. Calling in blood donors while I was on the table. They patched me up as best they could in the emergency surgery but when I kept going straight line they had to close me up and hope for the best. I can't imagine what my parents went through. The doctors told them that if I lived until the morning that I might make it.
Overall I spent three months in the hospital so they could rebuild my strength and prepare me for my second surgery (11.5 hours) where they performed a bile duct reconstruction to rebuild how my liver was attached to the rest of my innards. For three months I couldn't get any nutrition from food. I could eat whatever I wanted, but my body wasn't processing it right. All my nutrition came from a couple of IV bottles. In the first week I lost 35 lbs since my body was just grabbing what it needed from my muscle and fat tissue to get the nourishment it needed. The docs said if I wasn't in such good shape I would have died for sure.
So I guess you could say that motocross nearly took my life, but it also saved it from the conditioning it forced me to maintain. Thank goodness I was only 17 at the time and the idea of my own mortality was beyond my comprehension.
Broken Left Collarbone
Bruised both knee caps
Busted out front teeth
Compound fracture - Right Tib/Fib
Compound fracture - Left Femur (broke it into 4 peices lol)
And as a few other were stating in this thread, I think after every injury most of us at one point think "F this" . This is when the true motohead comes into play, the second you can get up and move you end up in the garage again fixing whatever was broken and needs to be fixed before you are healed.
Gotta love anybody that heels the machine before the body is done healing.
1 broken leg
2 broken foot (ankle is still horrible)
bicycles:
1 knocked out/broken nose/stitches/broke out teeth/cracked skull (falling onto face on concrete from 14ft. up)
2 separated shoulder horribly
- Broken scaphoid
- Broken humerus/dislocated shoulder/nerve damage.
Carry on - yuck!
I can remember that day like it was yesterday because I got a sucky start like always and was just making a pass into 5th before I crashed. Anyway I tried to bring the bike back in the air, but when I knew I wasn't going to make it I hit the eject button. On the downside of the jump I ended up dragging my left leg and twisting it. The thing snapped sideways right below my kneecap.
I ended up in a cast for 5 months and now one of my legs is longer than the other and I walk with a limp
Pit Row
broke sternum, collapsed lungs, dislocated knee, concussion, 30 days induced coma
Knee fix, new ACL,LCL and quadra lateralcorner

Holy Hell! you guys have no idea how bad seeing shit like that makes phantom pains in my legs GO OFF!
Same as watching those shows with like skateboard or BMX crashes and dudes break their legs and their foot is flapping around. For some reason seeing shit like that makes my brain try and send messages down my spine, it gets to my completely severed spinal cord, and shoots right back up to my brain as all sorts of crazy mixed messages, its such a trip.
The only way to describe the pain is imagine soaking your feet in a pool of acid and the flesh is just melting from the bone, nutty shit i tell ya! and i have tried any and every sort of nerve pain med under the sun, and nothing works! GOSH i cant get that image of his leg out of my head now, that is gnarly man....
I only broke ONE bone riding MX...my spine. Now BMX and skateboarding is a whole different story lol
Been there, done that too.
Five lousy months wearing that awful thing only to have another orthopedist re-break my leg and install two permanent plates and a dozen screws!
Hope you're doing well now, I'll never be the same.
I did that last September and still went to the MXoN. I couldn't fit my wheel chair in the car, so I said I would just tough it out on crutches. Made it to Tommys' (Cygnus) house and took my first steps unassisted!!! Went to the races and didn't use my crutches for the whole weekend! I think the massive amounts of beer and pain pills had something to do with that!
That was my first broken bone and hopefully my last!
BTW, it still hurts and I have a few complications. The Doc's said I would do more harm than good by trying to much to soon.. They were right, who knew?
