best bike for big, new rider

Hey guys, after a 6 year break from the sport, im trying to get back into it. I am now 16 at 6'3 and 190lbs, and i have no idea which bike to get. I used to race 85's and would prefer a 2 stroke but i dont know if the yz125 would be to small for me and i dont think i could handle the yz250. If the 125 is too small which of the new 250f's would be best for someone my size.

I think the YZ is the tallest standing bike. Im 6' and I loved the feel of my yz125

Get ypurself a 125 and re-learn to ride again. you will have the most fun of your life on it. I'm 6'4 and when I bought my 450 I thought it was the going to be the best bike ever. Not so much, makes things boring and lazy. Just get a 125 and learn, if you feel you have to have that little bit more power, switch to the 250 2 stroke. Trust me keep it fun!

yea the 125 is tall but would the cockpit be cramped for someone my size? And that is exactly why i want a 125 but im concerned with the power because once i decide that will be my bike for a long time

There is practically no difference in the actual size of the bikes, between the 125 and 250. Go with what your skill level asks for the 125. If you just have to have a more power get a KTM 150 or 144

iv just never ridden a 125 before so i dont know if it will be enough or not

Go the 250 2 stroke. I am 5'11 and about 200 pounds and although my wifes 125 pulls me round pretty well riding my rm 250 is so much better. You will have to be a little careful with the throttle when you first start with it but it won't take long to get used to it. I used to race 125's but stopped riding for 9 years then got my bike and within the first couple of ride days I was used to it. A 125 would be good to learn on again but after a little while you will be looking for more power. Also add to that the suspension will be much better suited to your weight on the 250 than the 125

the yamaha 125s and also suzuki 125s wouls suit your i reckon as they are tall and feel big when your riding them, for 250f's hondas and suzuki are probly the best for you kawasakis and yamahas seem to be smaller when riding them and dnt feel as good as the hondas or suzukis

Go get that new 350... it's about the same power as a good 250f, but a lot bigger and heavier, so it'll take your weight!

I am 6'3 and ride a 2010 yz450f and love it. It fits a taller, bigger rider nice. Also, the KXF's do too. I would say the Kawi or the Yamaha seem to fit taller people better.

at 16 and getting back into it

what level did you ride at?

a low hour 250f would be your best bet, finding one is the trick

a 250 2 st or 450 4 st would be to much at first

I'm 6'2 and run a KTM 450 2011 in standard trim and it fits perfect. MY Suzuki required taller seat and bars to make it feel right but it still felt small even with the mods

Out of interest Chris, what bar set up did you go for on the Suzuki? Im thinking of changing my set up for something higher but cant decide whether to try raised mounts and/or Windham bend Fat Bars. Im just about 6ft and the stock bars are a bit too low.

I'd recommend the above or hop up a 250F with a bigger rear sprocket, full exhaust, and Hi compression piston (possibly, but don't go too much higher). You'll be surprised at the power/feel of a properly set up 250F. I'm 40, 6-0", ~210 lbs (but not fat) and both of these set ups work for me (I didn't do the fly wheel on the smoker though, just a different sprocket).

If you were racing 85's at 10 years old then you obviously know the proper way to turn a throttle, you're not a beginner. 125 for fun, get your form down, but a 250 2 stroke would be a better choice if you're going to keep it for any real length of time. If you're 190# at 16 years old; odds are good you'll be 210# in just a couple years. Too big for a 125.
