I watched kdub do it many times and even on a blasted rm back when rm 250's were the curse of death for an mx racer...lol. the thing about rc was his ability to be unaffected by the world...take rv for example...illness may have affected his results. There was a whole season where rc had ibs and would literally shart himself during the race...iam sure these problems would. Affect concentration, hydration etcbbut you would never know it lookingat the guy... 110 degrees in minnesota..kdub is throwing up his chicken lunch and rc is just pounding the laps like it 60 and overcast.washougal rc highly allergic to bees was stung moto 1 came out and still took a 2nd all swollen and puffy. He went over waxed steffan everts and then immediately announced he needed to "fix the knee" because it was popping out off jumps no sx...he was fast talented but more importantly. Cut straight out of a slab of granite..its hard to beat a guy that never stops, and never fails, never tires, never gives up and while likes to win ...plain refuses to loose. U know?...now take that to these guys and we will see who is able to repeadedly rise week in and out w no issues if they show too many mortal traits the answer would be yes on the championship
Damn, I already though he was superior, and now you had to make him even more superior. Damn, racing isn't the same and if feels odd to salute Reed as being the "best" despite him being the "best" right now... Well...

If RC decided to race I think he would win. First of all Ricky wont show up out of shape, he would be ready........When RV is on and if JS raced.....well that would be fun to watch.......

Yeah, a sharp Stewart vs a sharp Villopoto would be awesome outdoors.

lol..Hes a legend- the guy could go from standing to sitting by simply smiling...trust me there is a lot more effort for say a 6 foot guy like kdub. (It's really incredible when you look at his career , races started, races finished, championships started, championships won...with injury, burn out, mechanicals and anything/everything else this sport can throw...I'll go on record and say right now no one will ever do what he did

- Just give it time - I guarantee when that number 4 is getting ready to go up for grabs RC will be coming out to get his 25 points and if I had to guess- I'll be on a plane to my 1st southwick race!

I was actually thinking about this the other day when I was driving around. I came to the conclusion that R.C. was so dominant because he was the first guy to really take training seriously(as in top level athelete status) and took dedication to unheard of levels. I think nowadays that work ethic and training level is being copied by the top guys because they had RC as the blueprint, so I don't know if he would have that advantage. Having said that, he will always be the baddest dude on the planet to me, no matter what so who cares. I remember that one TGO where they turn off the music and it's just straight RC WFO, so bad ass dude, I'm gettin chills thinking about it.

I will say that as you age you dont recover like you used to...Im 36 and man I used to heal like the wolverine now I am still sore in the ribs from a silly get off/fall over from 5 weeks ago. His tough as nails advantage may be diminishing and yes these other guys are at elite athlete fitness level..but that mofo is wise- Iam telling you no way your gonna see Justin Barcia, Eli Tomac or one of these kids rockin the #4....he'll be back-

Dunno, but after watching moto1 450 Hangtown and thinking about how many laps it took RD to pass Windham (who is even older now compared to his prime days) and the battles behind them, I wonder if RC still wouldn't dominate? Have anyone seen RC chasing Windham for more than 3 laps ever?

But more confusing, I honestly though RV would bitch slap the field TOTALLY, since he managed to convince me and others he was as fast, maybe even faster than RC when they both competed together, but his rather pale performance got me even more confused (I'm really confused now). Still him being sick could only explain that (he said it was no excuse though), which means next week when he's healthier (?) he should really outshine them all? That would make sense for me at least.

I mean, a younger Reed and Windham was totally owned by RC every damn week, and all of a sudden 5-10 years older they are on top of the game?

It just doesn't make sense.

And my personal God Pourcel? WTF? Well, l better stop the pissing. Sorry for the negativity, but it doesn't make sense...
Wouldn't RC still dominate?

Oui Oui!

I really think RC could still win,
Because of his mental toughness, when he went to the line he could look at 39 other guys, and he KNEW he had them covered,, very few guys ever have that.

Unsure about dominate... but I wouldn't bet against him to win the championship if he was to get fit and race again!

This is why you retire on top. The legacy is never tarnished and the legend grows.

RC at 30 after retirement for 4 years is still able to run with the top guys today in our minds (with some training) while James is all done at 25 because we have seen him lose a step or two. Funny how our minds work.

Opening scene in TGO. We all (at least many of us) got goose bumps by that intro, and it was the reason I bough the DVD!

Good point. Seems many athletes that do a come back fails, and RC would probably be among those despite our feeling is that he would be even better. Yeah, we have a tendency to deny facts if it works against our wishes!

RC's strongest attribute was his heart. He was dead set and determined to win no matter what sacrifice it took. And that's why he did so well. He wasn't the most talented. He didn't have the perfect physique, sometimes not the best set up, but laid wood every year. I have no doubts he would still kick everyone's butt.

In SX RC would have had a tough go, its more about your gift from god on a bike. Outdoors I think the only championship he may have lost was the year Bubbles went 24-0....then again Stew didn't have anyone squeezing him into self destruction either !!!

These days, you can't win races on pure god given talent, you have to eat sleep and breathe everything moto 24/7, so its just busting your ass and putting in the hours in the week that make you a champion these days......RC is the one who made it that way ..... IMO he would still be teaching them how its done outdoors and I don't doubt that for a second.

Watching that little red headed elf ride southwick was just in-human. Everything about how he rode that track, how he was built with the little hobbit legs, just said "no way he is going fast here".....about 70 minutes later and lapping into the top 10 he proved otherwise.

If he kept racing, no doubt he would keep on winning.

If he would come back now, I don't think he could show up and dominate.

His legacy has been set, and it should stay that way.

Look at others before him, Schumacher, Jordan, etc.

Be thankful to have ever witnessed such an athlete, I doubt you will see anyone dominate like he has.

I don't see anyone right now taking on RC.

Reed
Stewart
Dungey
RV

too many injuries, lack of raw speed have kept them back.

The thing with RC is he has stated that he felt like he had already dodged a lot of bullets and was starting to feel like pushing the envelope again and again would not end well. When you think 10 years straight of SX and MX every year, taking it on the way he did? And that is as a Pro. It's another 10 years before that of amateurs. MC took summers off around the 7th year of his career, James did the same. K-Dub took off several summers as well. None of them trained half as hard as RC did even once.

I think if MC retired at 27 or 28 while on top, we would have thought he would still whip RC in SX come 2001 and on. After all, a few years earlier he did. It's just how we think.

I get the chills thinking about that TGO as well. But he was not the first to take training seriously, no way. Hannah, O'Mara, Bailey, Stanton, Barnett, Glover, Kiedrowski just to name a very few.

Ha! Tnx. Well I have a wife and a kid, but I'm on maternity leave from the physician superman thing so I can be with our kid, and despite all the glory and splendour, at times I'm starving mentally to say the least! Smile

So I guess you are right! Wink

P.S I don't know if you remember me, but I posted as "Yes" during MT days...

my wife says to me HAVE THOSE GUYS SEEN RC RECENTLY?

"....he doesn't look like a world champion motocross rider anymore"

( i think he'd still win it all )

If RC came back he would have got smoked at Hangtown. The pace has picked up and the style has evolved a little bit. Reed is riding with a more confident then any time in his career, and if he had this attitude long ago instead of bitching about his bike, he would've beat RC out of a few of those titles.

Same goes with James, he isn't getting slower, the young guns are getting faster. They all scrub like James, they all can blitz the wools like James, they can all hit timing sections as fast as James and they all carry crazy corner speed like James, and most importantly, they arn't scared of James. Its called evolution and all the young Guy who watched and learned from James have evolved his style into their own

Wait till the next group moves up, they will all be even more intense and faster, pushing the pace even further. Guys like Eli, BamBam and Roczen will push the pace even further when they come up. Mosquin, Herrlings and even 14 year old Adam Cincerillo will raise the bar when he eventually gets here.

So you see gentleman, its not that James is slowing, its that everyone is getting faster. RC looked so dominant back then because only one Guy thought he could run With him, now there are 5 guys who think that, and that's the difference.
5/27/2011 6:30am
I think if RC wanted to dominate he still could, he'd train hard enough and he's got the speed and he's still young enough.

]yeah like John Dowd got smoked at southwick in his 40's...lol pleeeeaaase we are talking about the goat here... (I do agree on you theory of evelution but 99% of it is mental and RC knows he has what it takes torun with Reed and RD he trains with RD and anything Reed can do outdoors I highly suspect can be at least matched by RC....seriously it's RC I think this song is in order-
