Top-10 Helmet Painters

Wasn't there a Mike Taylor or something along those lines? Did helmets for Robbie Reynard for sure and I think a few for TP...maybe even Bubba and RC, I don't remember for sure. That name is stuck in my mind though

...cool thread by the way. I've gotten a kick out of looking at some of this art. Bravo!

the best price for a complete I have found is at Tagger Designs at $650. the best thing to do is research who you like, call them and let them know what you are looking for and they can generally give you a quote close to the final price. Tagger does have his own style to say the least, compared to the other painters I listed. Don't get me wrong I still love his work.

But eventually I'm gonna get one done by my favorite Chris Wood @ Air Trix.

Ok for sure you have to check out www.myspace.com/jbpaint

When it come's to airbrush work this guy is by far the most technical. His detail is insane. He doesn't paint billboard moto helmets, he manly does custom goal mask for pro hockey goalies.

hey guys, my name is trent hunter, me and my dad run HunterDesignsRacing.com and paint moto helmets too. our site only has very little since its just now being redone but there is a lot of helmet pics to be added! were sponsoring pro sx 450 rider jacob saylor this year on the east coast. weve been painting helmets for several years and have had many opportunities to work with pros and am racers, mainy in the south east. our pricing is very reasonable, our attention to detail is very outstanding, and we offer a great turn around window as well!

Holy hell you aren't kidding about the hockey masks......

The detail in insane on some of these, the Johnny Cash one is especially well done IMO.

Theres a few other Texans on here that said Jeff Long, and I'm going to echo them. Jeff is the man with a paint gun. If you've seen an American Iron Horse chopper with custom paint on it there's a good chance Jeff did it. He did Regal's lid last year for the outdoors, and here's a few photos of one he did for me. Pictures do NOT do it justice. Hell maybe Jeff will throw his .02 in on this thread... But I doubt it, ha!

www.theimage1.com

Also "bang for the buck" painters... I'm just saying you get what you pay for. There's a LOT of time and effort into a custom lid if it's done RIGHT!

Jeff Long did my helmet way back in 1992. It has seen better days because I wore it for years, but it is still one of my favorites of all time.

I wonder if the title of this thread should be The Last Ten Helmet Painters. Most have moved on to other things by now because of two things.

First, this is a hard way to make a living. You have to love it a lot to put in the work it requires for the return which never is in balance. Creating cool stuff is an addiction for a painter, and often a customers reaction is at least as valuable as the pay.

And second, there are a lot of helmets out there now that have pretty good graphics stock.

But to me, and fortunately a lot of other people, nothing beats a custom lid and the smell of fresh paint. Knowing it was painted for you alone with your personal info incorporated into the design is the best. Even now, a cool custom lid is easy to spot and is admired by anyone who can appreciate moto and art. Even in this cult we call Moto, being different than the next guy rules, and having something unique that the other guy can't copy is even better.[/img][/img][/img][/img][/img][/img][/img]

I hope this doesn't come off as self promotion, I just wanted to share some of the cooler ones that have gone through recently. Plus I really liked seeing all the other stuff posted so far and my work is not seen out of the Northeast that much.

Nah...the title of the thread is correct, as all are still in business and turning out sick pieces of work all season long.

this info still up to date?

Hellion Designs
Custom Helmet Paint Job

When a rider springs for a paint job on a helmet, it is often a crapshoot as to what he will get. When Hellion Designs offered to show us its stuff, we were genuinely curious as to what would come back. Needless to say, when this Shoei was returned just four short weeks after it was sent out, I was blown away with how good it looks! Hellion gave the lid the full treatment: a custom design, a chrome name and number, a painted mouthpiece, backdropped DR logos, plus a spare visor and helmet fin! Finish and attention to detail are both top-notch. Paint jobs from Hellion usually take three to five weeks to complete and range from approximately $350 to $650. If you are looking for a great way to make your buddies jealous, get some style with a Hellion custom helmet job. Chicks dig it. And if you're a girl, boys dig it, too.--Chris Denison

without a doubt Tagger. That guys style is amazing...totally different than anything else out there. And he is very reasonable.
Troy Lee paint isnt what it used to be and way over priced...I just had a MC replica done (its on their site) and I was dissapointed...lots of imperfections.
Does anyone have any pics of that old DV helmet that was painted like Lui Vatton purse?

Here in the Northwest, a guy by the name of Scott Sherbert of Screwy Designs has been
painting helmets for the last 20 years and did RV2's helmets in his amatuer days. He is
a rider and a promoter of the sport.
