Sounds like you seized the top end. Expect a couple grand to fix it. The joys of four strokes hey

Well first of all.....it locked up for a reason! If it was running really good to begin with and then locked up.....something broke. But 99% of the time , if a bike locks up......it wasn't running good to begin with , due to lack of maintenance. Such as oil changes , valve adjustments , air leak ( running hot ) , low radiator fluid.......bunch of things you need to keep up on.

Besides that.....A used 4 stroke is always a gamble. You never know what kind of damage it sustained before you bought it , unless it was from someone you knew.

My simple words of wisdom...........If you buy a 4 stoke, buy it new, change the oil and air filter often and BUY A HONDA...............or else buy a yamaha 250 2 stroke..............

yeah, I have an idea. Fix it, sell it and buy a 2-stroke.

If of course you have any money left after fixing it. Wink

Sorry to hear it man.

The problem is the RMZ450-ness of your bike. I had an 06 that whittled its big end crank pin down (under normal, well maintained running conditions) , contaminating its oil with metal shavings, which lunched the whole motor. Same thing happened with the DirtRider long term test bike in 06 . Same thing happened to numerous thumpertalkers. Just say no to Suzuki RMZ's

You’ll be ok if you paid $500 or less for it when you bought it. Keep us posted. I’m interested to hear what let go.

Some sound advice there...and remember to grease your dot...less painful.

Two hours after buying it? I smell a rat.

Nothing at all wrong with an RMZ OP. I think the ten year old bike has more to do with it. Fortunately you will have a solid engine once repaired. Could save a lot of money doing the work yourself with a knowledgeable friend if possible.

Bike was less than 3 years old.

Every model of bike out there has some issues. I've seen much worse from another brand that gets praised by most and I'm not talking 10 year old tech. Nothing wrong with the durability of a RMZ.

Edit: I believe there was a recall on that particular model due to a first year production issue with the bottom end. OP may want to look into that.

You are correct. I believe Suzuki was swapping them motors for the 09 motors or something like that.

Hopefully OP isn't looking into anything on his issue from 2011.

Didn't realize this thread was so old and bumped for apparently no reason. Haha Thanks for clarifying... kind of.
