Just walked out of the grocery store. WTF!?!

I bought an 18 ct carton of eggs and, it was $13.99.
I didn’t notice the price until I hit the register.

Looking at my previous receipt,  they were $6.49 Dec 2nd.  Simple Truth, Brown eggs from Fred Meyer (Kroger).

Anyone else getting hosed at the grocery store?

Dead hens lay no eggs. Entire flocks are killed whenever any birds in the facility get the avian flu.

I’m gonna go check out another store tomorrow and, see if a flat (60 ct) of the white eggs is the way to go.

My wife thought I bought the wrong eggs. It’s like what kinda eggs cost $14? Whole grain, organic fruit, free ranging in the Bahamas?

I just couldn’t believe it.

I completely understand that. But, are there not that many facilities? Now, I’m wondering how many facilities there are that supply us with eggs/poultry.

I just bought  a dozen eggs this morning at the Richland Winco for $3.79 Chance.

I go grocery shopping almost every Saturday morning with the wife. I have NEVER seen eggs more the $4:50/dozen.

The price is higher now because of Avian Flu. Sorry folks, but I think this is going to be a seasonal thing.

Fridge in the truck took a dump. I had a container of prepared chicken breast in a container, 10 bratwurst in another, choc large milk. I put it in the side box cold air driving gets in there. But the temps went way up in Mn. Xmas day , Wi. 9 in snow is melting causing fog & it started drizzling the 26 into iL.  , In & Ohio . At Va, here I checked the chicken & it’s al mushy that sucks. Because food in the east is crazy expensive.  I think the brats r 1/2 good . I flipped the fridge & bought the last bag of ice .  400 a week just on cold sandwiches not hitting the  ne.  Pay to park 18-35 bucks. Shower up to 25 . Water 8 bucks a gal in the ne 3 yrs ago.  Only manufacturing that will shows increase in 2025 is beer. Projected 16% increase by a Wi. Beer manufacturer. They built a plant in So Cal also.  There pissed because they don’t know how to run it. There looking to sell it.  And truck the beer  out west because the rates r super low.  On the positive at least we,ll hv a drunker America.

Prices are stupid high on my end.  Im going to a select sale today looking for replacement heifers and its higher than Ive ever seen.

About 3k each for decent fancy 7-weight replacements.  Regular sale-barn heifers (worth using as replacement) at about 2K'ish

Prolly end up dropping 12k today.   😟

Much of it is this:

Beef prices are my fault.  I had a "protein" based kidney stone and the doc told me cut down on my red meat consumption.  There wasn't no way on earth that was gonna happen...voluntarily.  So they raised the price til I said, "uncle".  Sorry fellers.😉

"New World screwworm"

Interesting articles. There's always something tilting import/export markets when it comes to agricultural products. The average person has no idea.

13+ years ago when my step son was in highschool he wanted to get a job at the local egg farm sorting chickens. A couple of the requirements were that he not have any of his own chickens OR....participate in any bird hunting. I guess they were worried even back then about contaminating their flock. He never got the job.

Definitely a big difference between regions. These are the same eggs that are $5.79 at our local Kroger store, but sort of close to where I believe Chance is.  Over $8 difference!

It could be an availability issue due to the Avian Influenza.  AI affects my business quite a bit, and when it’s found the next closest source that has capacity available can be several hundred or even a thousand miles away.  Egg producers don’t want to have a lot of unsold capacity around that they have to feed and care for but not be able to sell, nor do they want to flood the market and drive down prices and reduce their margins.

About a week ago, I bought a dozen and they were $8.59 ish....     Stupid high at that price.     Here Costco had a major salmonella recall on eggs, could be part of it.

I need to find a local farm that sells em....    Love my eggs in the AM.
