It is amazing to me to see the same  users defend the current administration no matter what the circumstance.  I think some of the defenders here are bots here to promote a narrative. No real person could really think some of the things said here.

All politics aside:

Who trusts what “The Government” is saying/telling the local citizenry versus what those same local citizens are reporting…showing…is happening to themselves and their domestic pets - animals- livestock?

Btw, it’s now reported -with video- that this train was on fire/dragging brakes over  20 miles BEFORE the derailment.

Yeah, the article says the fire was seen on a doorbell camera 20 miles before the accident.

I saw the video on T.V. …this is a SHIT SHOW.

I, for one, have no confidence in that the old-guy governor has/had to say during those 1st few days when he’s telling folks,”It’s safe to return to your homes.”

Meanwhile, wildlife and domestic animals are dying off and/or suffering pretty fucking serious ailments/symptoms.

This is an absolute shit-show.

there are only 2 responses they have:

1. "Trump did the same thing!"

or
2. "It's because of Trump!"

Then when you ask them to justify their statement, they rage and change the topic. It's actually kinda funny to watch 'em spin.

This has been known for some time I posted about it on page 1. You can see the axle on fire in this video.

We have floated that theory around for a while now and have yet to see it disproven. Apparently, even bots can be imbeciles.

I actually did see one piece on how it was trumps fault already.

I read yesterday that there has been pressure on the Governor to declare a state of emergency in order to access more funding for cleanup etc., but so far he hasn't done it. Just like TG said, this is a total shitshow on all fronts

And let’s not be insulting by pretending you don’t have a ‘narrative’.

I don't have a narrative, other than it was an accident due to a bearing failure.

I used to work at a factory that built railroad tank cars in Masury Ohio which was about 35 miles north of East Palestine.

One of the things I did there was stencil the logos, tank capacity, commodity, etc on the outside of the tanks after they were painted.

When I would stencil something like 'Hydrocyanic Acid' on one, I'd go look up WTF that was. I used to tell people not to buy a house or live within a mile or two of a railroad line when I saw what they shipped on the rails.

FYI, we used to paint a big thick red stripe horizontally around a Hydrocyanic Acid tank car, and a matching red stripe around each tank near the ends (called the heads)

This was to warn safety workers to stay the fuck away from one of them if there was a crash unless you were wearing a hazmat suit.

Just the vapors of that stuff will permeate your skin and kill you within minutes.

With all the fracking going on, they are now hauling liquified natural gas in tank cars. It is liquified by putting it under extreme pressure.

22 tank cars worth of LNG would be the equivalent of 1 Hiroshima nuke it there was a crash.

1 or 2 mile buffer zone ain't enough anymore!

To the rail industry's credit, there have been improvements in safety. But, with rail being the preferred method of transport for alot of hazardous materials oversight needs to be constant, I simply don't trust the railroad companies to do what's right and safe on their own. I bet most of us live within 10 miles of a rail line that carries hazardous materials.

see my post above re: your article. it summarizes the events and then ends that part with "Officials have no idea what the fallout will be from the explosion" (paraphrase)

And the "narrative" comment was because you posted the article along with inferring that your article absolved FJB of any involvement.

People can say what they want about my home state…but…

Even THE COUNTY Health Dept would be reporting ppm on ANYTHING that is THE SLIGHTEST BIT HARMFUL within hours…potentially “minutes” (less than an hour) from 1st responders reporting to the scene. As for water? Shiiit, they’d be ALL OVER that.

This lack of REAL INFORMATION & in a timely fashion…is the real problem.

What is/are the ppm of the various chemicals/known carcinogens?
What are the known limits/thresholds?
Why TF hasn’t this type of info been front and center from the very beginning?
Why hasn’t the Sec-Trans been “in-front” of this…instead of behind it? (Pun?)

I also worked in the 'truck shop' at the tank car plant.

The trucks are the carriages that have the wheels on either end. The older ones had bronze bushings and a big fabric wick in a box at each end which was full of lubricant. They look like this. They were all supposed to be phased out and replaced with roller bearing axles like the second pic. I don't know whether or not there are any of those old ones still in service.

The tanks just sit on the cross pieces (called bolsters) and the only thing that holds them in place is gravity and that pin. I always thought that was crazy too!

Wow. Is that so they can theoretically be switched out easily? That does seem crazy!

you can always spot a lib because they will defend gov't to their death. Unless Trump was President, of course. Then EVERYTHING can be tied back via their TDS to the orange man.

Hence, the affected population has serious trust issues.

We have a CSX and NS main line running through our first due fire district.  Scares me to think what could happen.  I've taken a bunch of classes on it but it would overwhelm any agency.

So while people are beginning to become sick, wild and domestic animals are dying, a lame ass pair of local shills in lab coats are standing around telling residents that all is well.

You're all just a bunch of hypochondriacs with head colds.

And the transportation secretary is out bemoaning the fact that it's nothing but white guys showing up to do the work on construction projects.

A side note:

We're seeing the current administration give more resources to criminal illegal immigrants, than lawful American citizens.

And right before our very eyes.

But hey, they're shooting down balloons, so it can't be all that bad.

You can't make this shit up,

Yes Norfolk southern has its own air & water quality testing co. Corrupt Yes don’t expect the real data to ever be released. The railroad is the gov love child. Subsidized by gov money. If all animals & birds r dead what does that tell you ? The river is polluted but they say it’s a big river nothing to worry about. They knew they had a problem with the train but never decreased the train speed. What color was the engineer ? How many yrs of exp does he hv ? How many violations does he hv ? Strange that the person responsible is not in question. After wotc these people used to be on 60 min. It would come out that there where the highest scoring minority but they failed all the test. Still they would put them in charge of a train to Derail it or a barge to run into a bridge support . Then in dense fog a woman driving to work falls to her death because the bridge collapsed. He knew he hit the bridge but avoids prison because he is a minority. I as s joke asked a NS supervisor in 47th Chicago railyard on where the empty’s where. He laughed & said we don’t even know where our locomotives r .we,ve been looking for a train all morning in here & just found out it’s in Ny. They pride themselves in being idiots because they know they can derail a train hv a major city evacuated & its swept under the rug. Trains violate speed limits all the time. Violate length etc . Mostly  Illegals work on maintenance crews replacing ties, etc. it’s a joke all the way back to the 1800,s.  They used slaves to build the rail . Including the Chinese out west.

I don't know, really. But the cars have to be free to pivot on that circular plate around the base of the pin for cornering. so maybe there isn't a good way to rigidly attach the tank or whatever kind of car to the truck.

There is a kind of solid grease that comes in sheets that goes into that plate that the tank sits on.

Those 2 raised structures on either side of the pin plate are called side bearings. There is a corresponding structure on the tank that gets shims that allow a certain amount of rocking from side to side.
