Interesting wildlife

I am now probably going to have nightmares about that fucking spider viper thing attacking me.... (:

In our garage once we found a crab scorpion, lived around scorpions my whole life and never even heard of such a thing. 

My wife came home (I wasn't home yet) and saw it in the garage. She was afraid to kill it, and didn't know what the F it was, so she put a cup over it so it was trapped. 

When I got home, she was like you have to see this thing. I took the cup off, and stepped on that freaky bastard. Had to google it to see what it was, just guessed with crab scorpion and sure enough, a pic popped up. I hate scorpions. 

That’s pretty nasty. Do not like.

I took this picture a couple a summers ago at the driving range after we finished playing some putt putt.  I have no idea what it is.

This is a dragonfly I encountered up on the catwalk at  climate pledge Arena several years ago during the renovation. I was hanging cable tray up there and he pretty much hung out with me all day. Literally hanging on my cable tray as I worked away.

Ok this one is definitely interesting!  My local snowboarding spot has a porcupine that you can see while riding the lift.  I see him on a regular basis sunbathing in the trees.  Can you spot him in the first pic?

Trying to compile a list of varmints around the Tennessee house. 

Did the, backyard bird count, last year, and had 41 different birds at our feeders. 

Along with the resident, 

Possums, Raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, fox, ground hog, a coyote who passes through every evening.

Black widow's and a shitload of different spiders. 

Black snakes and Rat snakes.

Both keep local copperheads at bay.

Scorpions.

Black bear have been seen on nearby ridges.

But haven't seen any.

(Our cabin's trail cams have them roaming around)

And mice, which my cat feasts on leaving little headless crime scenes on the bathroom floor.

Nope, I'll happily stick with the pedestrian, run of the mill critters we have here. No poisonous spiders or snakes, no scorpions, no bizarre sea monsters...six months of winter has one advantage, turns out.

There's often a few crows that live in the neighborhood. I'm trying to get on their good side, because I hear they can be good allies. Haha. 

I mostly just have a bunch of these dudes around. Give 'em a wide berth:

We've had a mated pair hanging out at my wife's feeders all winter. They're fun to watch. We get all kinds of wildlife coming through the yard. Never thought bush chickens in our cherry trees or deer grazing on rosehips in our yard were ever going to be a thing but here we are.

Since this is supposed to be about interesting wildlife, a dumb fact about woodpeckers have extremely long tongues that wrap around the back of their skulls and help cushion their brains from the hammering from pecking on trees. So it's an ECE rated head, basically.

While there are some snakes and an eagle or two and a shit ton of pelicans in the summer. What you really have to look out for is these guys. As you can see I'm in mortal fear for my life ...

I love nature and spotting the little things like these flies…
We live in the woods and my wife and I watched a fox pass our house just yards into the woods last week. My oversized bearnedoodle pup was going berserk LOL, more than normal

I noticed these flies on the outside of my pickup window as I was pulling into my driveway a few years ago. The bigger one could be deer fly and the other a black fly. I don’t think I was watching them “do it” because when they were done the smaller one on the bottom was dead.

Praying mantis, seen one awhile back. The females will bite off heads of males after mating known as sexual cannibalism. Dudes think they have it rough in dating scene 🙂

When I was a boy and into my teens, I would see these little fawkers on my trail rides and hikes...
...not so much anymore...
...the last time I saw one of these "blood-squirters" (defensive) in my area was probably over two decades ago.

My wife and I were talking just the other day about horned toads.  We used to call them hornys and see them all the time.  We came to the conclusion that the fire ants depleted the population.  They were great at eating bugs.

Cool thread the blood coming out of that is wild.!

I posted this awhile ago took these pictures jet skiing at the local lake. I haven't been on the jet skis since my wife got cancer, going on the fifth year.....I need to get them out this season.

The goat pics reminded me of my youngest son’s encounter with some goats while hiking in the  N Cascades a couple years ago.
