Ricky Carmichael | Vital MX Podcast

We finally released our 'The Inside Line' podcast with Carmichael, covering 2005 through 2007.

I always felt like those years didn't get discussed enough in other interviews, so we went deep...

I had goosebumps when he spoke about the 2006 finale, as well as San Diego 2005 with Chad.

Interesting stuff about his health, heading into retirement and how the end of 2003 haunted him.

Available on all major podcast platforms! Hope you all enjoy it.

Maybe should have done this one with a southern accent rather than British?

If you want a teaser of what's in the podcast, here is ten minutes of RC talking about that 2006 supercross finale!

Bravo Lewis and ML!  Thank you for this podcast.

Fantastic to dive into specific years of RC's career and into the mindset of a champion.

RC, Reed and Stewart was such an epic era for us as fans to enjoy.

Thanks! I really wanted to do those years, because I always felt like they have been rushed in other career recaps.

Mainly because people go so deep on the start that they have to rush through the latter years, which makes sense.

Lewis, I have to admit to being a little disappointed at the Vital podcasts lately.

My moto podcast life was set up pretty nicely with the Pulp network, Main Event, Swap, Whiskey Throttle, Bubba's World with a sprinkling of Pony Pod, RacerX and Gypsy. Now with you guys stepping it up lately I need to find more time to listen. I may end up wearing my bicycle out because pedaling is one of the best places to listen to podcasts. You guys are going to owe me a bike.  hahaha

Good job, I can't wait to listen to this one.

My heart literally sank when I read that first line, haha. What an emotional rollercoaster.

I do recommend our 'Post-Race Show' each week... If you can keep peddling, that is.

It was great. Feels like we got some new information from him since this was focused solely on one part of his career rather than the entire thing.

Ricky :  " Supercross was way harder, in outdoors, you just twist the throttle!"

Talk about a massive oversimplification from the greatest to ever do it.. lol. Us mortals would beg to differ.

I love the story Brayton tells about being behind RC in practice and watching him run it into a turn basically wide open, then admitting to himself that if that's what it was going to take to be up front he just was never going to have it.

Good podcast - really looking forward to listening to the Jeanie Carmichael one.

That was definitely our intention, find an era and dissect it to learn more. I was worried how it would work with myself and Lewis both interviewing but it actually worked out great cause we both had laptops open with our notes but if we heard Ricky mention something while one was interviewing, the other could research a time sheet from a race or something to ask more. It was really enjoyable, straight re-living my childhood when talking about those races.

One of the greatest intangible skills to have in life not only racing is the "mental game".

That's the part I loved hearing in this podcast is about RC's mental game and strategy towards winning during those years and against those competitors.  Good stuff!  Racing guy RC and retired guy RC now are like two different individuals.

Sounds like a horrific experience, haha. It's not weird as long as it doesn't drive you insane... Thanks!

'Not racing' RC goes way out of the way trying to be humble and not seem like a braggard. At times he seems almost embarrassed by the 'goat' business. The 'racing' RC was the bull of the woods. He knew it. So did everyone else.

It's a horrific experience because I think we all read it in your voice.  lol

Regarding the pod, I'm about 30 minutes into it and am loving it. Time to get to pedaling.   lol

I believe he is truly trying to be just one of the guys and be as humble as possible, but he pushes so far, the opposite way he almost seems disingenuous. I loved watching a-hole Ricky race but I also love listening to retired Ricky talk about his glory days.

The Mt. Rushmore guy who seems the most comfortable with who he is and what he did is McGrath.

RC should just admit the obvious, he wanted to CRUSH anyone and everyone who lined up against him.

Absolutely and that's what made him the GOAT. He realized after he retired that his singular focus made a lot of enemies and seems to be making amends for it now. I give him all the credit in the world. Not too many pro athletes are that self-aware.
