Question for the Brits

Who are you wanting to see ride for your team for nations? I had a few discussions about this last year with some British team owners. Most don’t agree that Mewse should make the team, but imo, how can the British champ not make the team? With the race coming to Matterley, who do you want to see on it? Can Conrad bring his British national speed on home soil? Gilbert? Watson? Tommy? Charlie Heyman? Let’s hear it, who do you wanna see get the call?

I'd see if Dave Thorpe would suit up again .

I'm sure he could throw a decent Honda together, along with Kurt on a KTM and Malin on whatever he fancies..... would we stand a chance?  God no, but it would be epic 🤣

Do you guys stand a chance with the best Brit’s anyways? Nope, might as well enjoy a good time on home soil!

Exactly, might have to place a burger van/beer tent next to the track for Paul though, think he might need a break or two after so long off the bike lol

It’s very sad that we have so little to choose from in the UK. No offence to Dean or Tommy but there really should be younger talent that’s come through by now.

Isn't Deano Scottish??

Scotland is part of Great Britain, along with England and Wales,

Last time the des Nations was at Matterley, no one was going to beat Max. With the SX season he just had, he could have it in him to surprise everyone again.

Right, minus the MXdN, Vet MXdN and so on...

Huh? Last time des Nations was at Matterley, team GB was Deano & Max on 450s and Tommy Searle on the 250.

I think our strongest team would be Mewse, Watson & Gilbert.

With Tommy back down to a 250 day in day out, he's a good fit for the 250 at MXdN.

Tough to ignore Ben Watson, Max always gives 100%, and Deano would be on a last hurrah kinda kick so maybe he would have some extra fire? Conrad Mewse or Josh Gilbert would likely rise to the occasion too if needed, both are badasses.

The motocross community here absolutely lives for it, but our country as a whole hates motocross or anything which makes any noise or dust or generally brings anyone else happiness. So I get why we don't produce more elite talent nowadays, shame.

Matterley is gonna be sweet though, no question.

It’s a strange one with Conrad as he clearly has speed it just doesn’t seem to translate on the gp scene for some reason.  I think it would be hard to not put Tommy on the 250 and Max on a 450 if he’s up for it.  I’m sure if the stars aligned Billy Bolt would at least give 100%!

Although when was the last time Max even rode outdoors so who knows if he’d even be up for it.

Deano is Scottish, Canadian, or British, just depends on the situation 😄

Similar to the riders that I never knew were Peurto Rican or from Guam around September time!

Nicoll, Herring and Malin. Let's win it again 30 years later.

Right, minus the MXdN, Vet MXdN and so on...

We've had teams in the past where 2 out of the 3 riders were Scottish.

Pretty sure the vets mxdn breaks it down into Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland which is legitimate but thats not how we compete at the MXDN.

I've been into mx for over 40 years and the rest of the country hated mx back then too. I think it's more to do with riders choosing to stay in the UK and earn money/not spend tons doing the GP's for no reward. That's understandable, but all that has happened is that our top guys have settled into a pace that wins at home but doesn't cut it at world level. Mewse and Gilbert looked great at home all last year and were absolutely nowhere at the MXDN.

Also, back in the 80's and 90's we had stand-out riders like Noyce, Thorpe and Nicoll who fought hard and won at the GP's and raised the standard of the UK riders coming through behind them who wanted to emulate them. There's nobody in UK mx who's leading the way as an example now. UK riders now prefer to be a bigger fish in a tiny pond, and seeing our top guys doing this isn't helping change attitudes.

Didn’t Mewse beat Herlings the other day ?

I would pick Mewse, Anstie & Askew, Tommy can go as moral support.

Only because Herlings bike was about to blow.

I think you're right. I'd stick Josh on the 250.

You're absolutely right. The latest generation of riders from the UK are spoiled with super-smooth tracks to ride then when they get to something technical they have no clue how to ride it.
