Alright guys. The subject says it all. I'm a Michigan guy, currently in Oregon and moving to Texas this summer. The Austin area specifically. I'm really excited aside from moving to basically "another Portland" in my eyes... I see on youtube and google that there's a few good looking tracks in the area and I'm pretty stoked about that. I've been really disappointed by the tracks here in Oregon versus what I grew up with (so much so that I honestly hardly ride right now) I kind of wish I was moving more towards the DFW area, but this is where work is taking me. Who's in the area? What tracks are best? Let's ride when I get there.

Power Trip is a great band if that’s what your username is referring to.
Im in Round Rock. Met a bunch of good dudes that ride a lot. Me not so much anymore but I can hook you up with some people.
You will be 1 hour North of Cycle Ranch, Besides Swan in East TX and Oak Hill in North Tx is the best tracks possible,
The Shop
As a fellow Oregonian, farewell my friend.
Let me know when you move here and we can meet up. I’m in San Antonio and go riding every weekend. In the Austin area you have Austin motocross park (amp), Murphy’s, spoaks, lone star. South is cycle ranch, but it has sucked bad since the owner took it back over (dry, poor layout, chunks falling out of the face of jumps) and he also raised the price to $45. Farther east a couple hours you have 3 palms and rio. I ride 3P a bit and it’s worth the drive.
DFW is where I spent some time and although i've never been to California i'm not sure how anything could rival the DFW area for moto. 3 Palms is the closest thing to Austin i've been too and it was always great when i've been.
You are going to be moving to a beautiful area in Texas. You will also be very pleased with the tracks, some near by, some a bit of a drive, but all well maintained. However, nothing will prepare you for the sticky, hot summers. There is a reason they pulled the outdoor nationals out of Freestone. Get ready to sweat like a mofo!
Murphy’s is really awesome. It’s not a technical or pro-oriented track but it’s a blast and the soil east of Austin is very nice. They have another track that is more technical now that I think about it, it’s newer I guess, I forgot about that one, but the original is sublime.
Also the South Austin Trail Network is excellent XC (fast paced) mountain biking if you’re into cycling.
Haha. Not familiar with Power Trip, but I can check them out in a second.
Farewell, bud. I'll be around another 6-8 weeks or so. I'll be busy, but I do hope to still hit Mountain View once more if I can and possibly ride some trails if you want to try to join up! I'm for sure going to miss the mountains and the ocean.
Sounds great! We have been looking at the Round Rock area a little during our house hunting. There and the Bastrop/Cedar Creek areas mostly since we would love to end up with a bigger yard.
I'm really excited for the move actually. I know I'm going to miss a lot about Oregon, but I'm pumped. I know it's probably not the same, but Michigan summers can actually be super intense too. Unfortunately we lost Josh Lichtle to that at Red Bud one year... I've ridden in 105 degrees plus with all the humidity there could be... dripping sweat before the bike's unloaded from the truck haha. People heat stroking. Gnarly stuff. I imagine it can be that and then some in Texas, but I am at least "sort of" prepared for it, but I am older and fatter now too.
I'll definitely let you know. I'm dying to get heavy back into riding. I'm getting old and it's been forever since I've had the time. It's a basic certainty at this point that I'll get there, but the question at this point is just when. Looking like I'll be in TX in early June if we can get a house and get this one sold. I imagine it'll be a month after that before I have time to ride honestly with the whole move and everything.
I'm really excited to check all these out. Sorry if I didn't respond to each of you guys. I've got a lot going on right now. I kind of hated on the Oregon tracks a bit in my post unfairly, but it's really the soil I hate. I miss that Michigan loam and sand so bad that I have a hard time even enjoying riding on anything else. I'm a picky bastard.
In my opinion underground In kemp is better than both of those
you will be moving here at possibly the worst possible time - try not to hate it too much, but it will be very hot
Pit Row
Also, not sure if Round Rock is more conducive to your work but another area that’s worth checking out is Buda and Kyle, both on the south side and closer to Murphy’s, South Austin Trail Network, downtown, San Antonio, New Braunfels, etc.
Havent been there since moving away from the area in like 2012 time frame, but that track was awesome back then.
The stars at night, are big and bright…
I was recently at a wedding in Austin and friends were talking about Murphy's. I remember riding with those brothers back at Lakeside in Bastrop back in the day. Great to hear they built a track.
If we could only get Red Rock back open
I’ve heard that a lot! I’m going to try to keep an open mind! It’s my fiancée I am worried about with the heat. I like hot.
I appreciate that! I will look into both of those!
Mountain View sounds fun, if it would stop raining.
Red Rock was incredible. Total gem of a track in the middle of nowhere just outside Austin. It seemed like a professional racer’s outdoor practice course.
Murphys is freaking awesome. Best track I’ve ridden in Texas in 25 years. I’ve ridden them all. That being said it’s a tab leaning towards better riders. It’s nothing do or die but the faster you are the funner it is imo Swan is my 2nd favorite. I’m partial to Rio Bravo. Just love the place. 3 Palms is cool if you like sand. I like the main track the most. It’s the Least sandy of all of those tracks at 3 palms. And yes Texas summers are brutal. Super brutal. Go early in the morning. The afternoon heat can hurt you bad. If you’re not used to it.
Austin definitely isn't portland. For access to tracks. East of austin towards Bastrop is more ideal. I live in Bastrop my self.
You have Spoaks mx and murphys 30 mins away in redrock. Austin motorcross Park is right by COTA and has awesome wedneday night practices.
Lonestar MX 40ish minutes north on 35.
Irondog MX is on the way to houston about an hour and a half away and is awesome.
Cycle ranch east of san antonio is amazing
There's tracks all over.
I love sand and miss it dearly! I will absolutely try every one of these as soon as I can.
