Back in February Daxton crashed in practice and was unconscious for over a minute and sat out with a concussion. Tonight just a couple months later he got knocked out again in the main. đŹ
I donât like head injuries ever but itâs especially scary when they are this close to each other. Hope he takes the proper amount of time to let his noggin heal up.
I feel really bad for him. I like him and want to see him succeed but kind of think heâs headed towards being another victim of the Star meat grinder.
Blair speaks highly of him, maybe he has a place at ClubMx with less pressure?
Thanks for the update.
Sad to hear he got knocked out again. I hope heâll be ok.

It happened right in front of us, I didn't see the actual crash because I was watching the leaders but the aftermath did not look good. He was out cold for atleast 30 seconds, and started convulsin when he started regaining consciousness. I was glad to see him moving his arms and legs afterwards, hoping he is alright
Oh dear god, sounds awful. To echo the OP's comments, concussions are not to be taken lightly. Pretty sure Davi is still suffering from the effects of his trauma and can't ride a bike to this day.
Broc Hepler too, pretty sure he races in the woods but the concussions still effects him to this day.
Pastrana had many many crashes where he hit his head and many others but back then there were no protocol for concussions.
I remember Randy Richardson telling a story about Travis on pulp. He knocked himself out in the heat, and when he came back to lineup for the LCQ he came up to Randy visibly concussed and said something like âHey, what way does the first turn go again?â And Randy paused for a second and goes âUh, itâs a left, with a 2-3-2 after.â Travis nods, mumbles âleft, 2-3-2â to himself, and then rode to the gate.
Whenever concussions and CTE is brought up, I always thinks of Pastrana. He must have a concussion count in the 30's.
Unfortunately, the more concussions you get the more susceptible you are to getting another. If Bennick had a recent concussion and was convulsing in this situation, thatâs serious. I hope he gets excellent medical care and the chance to fully recover before even thinking about coming back.
Scary stuff. Hope itâs not another Zach Bell career.
Concussions are no joke. Iâve had several from riding but the last one I got 10 years ago dramatically changed my life. Iâm only a shell of the person I was before the crash
Fucking hell. Brother, that makes me genuinely sad to hear. One of the guys I routinely rode with got a concussion in Sept of '23. None of us saw the crash and he doesn't remember it. He actually crashed twice that day and we all wonder if he got his head both times. It got him so good, since that day, I've only seen him ride a couple times. And I saw recently that he's selling his bike
concussion, serious injury, lay low dude
my dad has a similar leighton lillie story from daytona 2006 i think maybe 2007, big crash in the heat and before the lcq asked wich way the first turn went
All i hear these days is concussion protocol as if itâs similar to a covid protocol but the rules keep changing. It used to be if you can see straight get back on the bike. Pastrana had knocked himself out mid moto and finished kind of like how Stew got up wobbly and was hard to talk out of it. The other night Vialle had a pretty good/bad crash and although he didnât get knocked out he didnât take any chances and just rode back to the pits. I was surprised he did as well as he did because you never know what he could have hurt. Most racers ride with some kind of injuries and I can picture them thinking championship over their brain. Luckily Dax isnât in the points or this may have been a tougher conversation to talk people out of going for the trophy over the brain. Lately thereâs less pressure to win everything and stay at the top for the sake a career and I didnât realize 1 or 2 crashes could be the difference beyond racing just trying to live. Even with the better helmets guys like JMart had some tough get-offs and decisions to make. I just saw a video about Evel and how it made for a better story for him to escape death than just be injured after a crash or claim he was in a coma for a month if that wasnât really the case. On Gypsy Pastrana was saying he got checked and doesnât have any brain damage. Different than Evel unstated Pastrana helped to make the sport safer with landing ramps and strategy as opposed to Evel who they say didnât calculate much as far as speeds and estimates to make his jumps safely. Not sure how they can progress SX but as far qas I have seen they just make the tracks easier. Still a lot of big crashes and injuries. I donât know how mx compares to other sports but the riders should get taken care of at the elite level they are. It takes brains and balls to ride they way they do.
No surgery required.
Pit Row
I forgot itâs not always the tracks to blame but some crashes you canât help like they say ânowhere to goâ to avoid it. People are quick to claim rider error but itâs a very split second tight race track and practice has not much room for incidents either. No matter how it happens glad to see the riders support each other like posting on the social or visiting their friends at the hospital because it can and does happen to anyone.
The concussion protocol that is followed is the same as used by majority of other sports it was created by the Dr's that oversee the UPMC Concussion Management and treatment program. As they learned and understood TMI's more through their studies they have updated the protocol throughout the years. The link to the protocol is below.

Was that Schock with the cross jump? Dude didnât even look back to see what he caused.
Definitely looked like a Club rider. That was rough
That was shitty!
who the fk cross jumped him? that's penalty worthy if AMA was WAS
If they donât get knocked out I was never a fan of the âhurry up and jump back on the bike for pointsâ protocol not even wondering if or caring if they got hurt or not. I was a big fan of Forkner but the âgo for the win no matter whatâ seems to have caught up with him where he had bad luck collisions or riding injured. If people bag on Carmichael he should be to blame for yelling at Austin when he was holding his backâŠâCone on gotta get up, points!â
It wasnât necessity a cross jump, if you look at other riders who went through sections they were searching for lines zig zagging and trying to avoid transition ruts that could have made them crash. It wasnât raining during the race but the open stadium had lots of rain to manage and it was still bad in the flat areas including between jumps. Davies won by staying out of the main line messes. Vialle got pulled sideways on a standard jump off the track. I had a bad feeling about trying to triple out of the whoops that isnât very common these days and that Deegan overjumped. Next week is back to back whoops.
The worst of those that comes to mind was JS7 at Daytona on the Yamaha when he knocked himself senseless and had to basically be helped onto the bike.
What about the time when James crashed with someone else and he tried to ride off on the wrong bike. Iâm sure somebody can tell us which race it was. Maybe that one ??
The pic of Dax in the hospital, with the neck collar, looks rough. I hope he really takes him time getting back.
At Daytona the camera crew was right there and Stew couldnât get his leg up over the rear fender because it was bent and stuck upwards out of shape. He fell over barely able to stand anyway. Another memory was Preston grabbing Stewâs helmet trying to tell him to be safer and not just hit the gas back onto the racetrack not even looking going bowling for bikes. I forget who else did that but I think RC hurried onto the track and got hit by another rider too if you can call that a highlight.
I wondered what it was about Stew getting hit by Dungey and getting knocked out that made him decide to call it a career because I never heard any details but Stew may have been left with some bad headaches or other damage like memory problems that we were never told about. Stew sort of disappeared for a while maybe needing some kind of therapy before bouncing back. He seems fine now but it could have taken years to relearn things of gain functioning again. If Stew had the âwilling to die to winâ attitude it could have gotten pretty bad to decide to stop racing after that crash when he had so many that didnât seem to cause any problems. Once people have kids they may not want to take chances where I think RC retired because of that.
Something bad happened before the Dungey crash to Stew when someone was crossing the track that could have started him down a bad road. Like some people say itâs not always the biggest crashes that cause injuries. I wonder about helmets and if there is a best one to protect the most or if you crash a bad way it doesnât matter what your wearing or protected by.
