I will admit, Webb was the man last night, and he might even be the man for the championship. But have you ever seen Webb come from behind like Sexton has? It seems like if he gets less than a top 5 start he has nothing for the top guys.
My point is this, everyone talks about mental toughness and how Webb is extremely solid and consistent and Sexton is a basket case; but I don’t think Webb could put on a ride like Sexton in the same circumstances. To me, that shows a different type of mental toughness.
Not saying that Webb doesn’t deserve praise for his racecraft, speed and bull-dog attitude, just saying that I think y’all are counting out Sexton too early.

IMO

Also coop started 12th in Tampa.

Actually Webb does indeed come up through the pack.

It's just not with the flamboyant style of other riders.

But then, before you know it,  there he is in a podium spot, or lurking just behind the leader.

Yes, I agree. Chase’s downfall will be the mistakes he makes that causes him to blast everyone’s doors off like Hangtown ‘24. In the words of RC “no be there”. His best hopes for the championship is to get those good starts and fight from the front every week, trying to limit the costly mistakes.

My point is, sometimes things happen, even to the least accident prone riders. How they react to those situations can make or break their championship hopes. What I saw from Sexton was a remounted effort to fight to the front, no matter how hopeless it might have seemed at the first turn. If Webb was down in the first turn last night like Sexton, I don’t think he could’ve passed up to third. IMO

When Webb is in a similar situation (it’s not a matter of if, but when bad luck strikes) we will see how he recovers, or if he just calls it a night.

We talk about how unpredictable this season is, yet in many ways it’s very predictable.  Chase making dumb little, but very costly mistakes.  Webb cruising through the first hand full of races while clawing his way up the standings and getting it gone when the opportunity presents itself.  Injuries happening to top riders, and standout unexpected rides.

And now, a tie at the top!!!  This is still a great season with an unknown outcome.  A long way to go, but I think Chase gets control of his mistakes and squeezes out a tight championship over Webb.  Saturday can’t come soon enough.

You must not have watched Tampa last week when he started like 12-14 and passed through the pack for 2nd.

Good points. I think of Webb we’re to go down immediately and be dead last on the start the circumstances would make the decision for how much risk he were to take for whatever position he was after. But that’s def not the topic of this thread.

Regardless, awesome to watch the top 3 ride, different style and personality, and each incredible in their own way.

If Chase can minimize his mistakes he should win, too much of a speed advantage.  But with the field thinned out a bit its hard to picture Webb off the podium very often so i would expect it to stay close.

The guy gets written off every year before the season starts, and every year is right up there.

I liked his little jab in the post race conference last night. He basically said When Jett got injured the industry was all talk of who's championship it was going to be Tomac or Sexton? Very few people mentioned Webb. Even Sexton was smirking when he made the comment. That stuff really fires him up. Like him or not Supercross is more exciting when he's in the hunt.

Speaking of firing him up....   I found the interview where he discusses what Kenny said about him.    I'm a fan of Kenny, but this sure took him down a notch in my book when I heard it.

Apologies, it's a Gypsy-"f*ck the privateers"-Tales video.

In how many of his wins did he pass Roczen with less than 5 minutes left? It has to be 10ish. Roczen has to have nightmares about Webb.

This is what, the fifth time this has happened? It’s literally every year other than ‘best off-season ever’

I will say, Sexton is faster coming through the pack, but with how depleted the field has become I don’t think it’s unrealistic to see Coop come from last to 5th or 4th

I understand being a Kenny fan over a Coop fan, but if you have the full context of their beef and history battling on Supercross tracks, you'd have to be delusional to think Coop isn't the clear winner. From all known information, Kenny started the beef... but Coop has finished it. They seem to be on good terms now.

Kudos to KROC for mentioning the late race stigma. That takes character. He's matured alot.

"That's why I race him the way I race him" You would think he races Kenny dirty if he says that, but he actually never (outside of Daytona where he took him super wide, wasn't really dirty though) tried to clean him out or something like that. Always just somehow sneaks through the insides. As a Kenny fan I definitely hated him in 2019-2021, but he earned my respect over the years. He's a beast on a SX track.

You're not wrong, Webb definitely let his riding speak for him at that time. Also.. people were and still are way too invested in all that kind of beef, even years after. Same with Ferrandis and Craig back then, people were still going and yapping years after while they became friends shortly after the incident already lmao.

Yep. It's been said that Webb is the last guy you want behind you in the last two laps of the main.
