Starting a thread to count how many times an Astar visor falls off this season.
We are currently at 1 and free practice hasn’t even started. Going to be a great season boys!
Hunta has his Astar visor jettison pretty quickly.
Yup, 1 visor down and the season hasnt even started yet lol. I need to get in the business of selling replacements to the lawrence fam, Id be rich!
Whats the over under on how many no visor rides well see this year?

I recall at one race last year, we had two "bullet helmets" on the podium. I honestly can't recall a time in history where we have had two riders on the podium (if any) that have had something go wrong enough to lose their visor, and still make it back to a podium finish.
That’s a design feature. It snaps off to reduce rotational forces that would otherwise go to the head/neck if it was fixed. It’s not broken either it just snaps back in.

The SM10 up until the 2024 model, came with an extra visor. I've sold a bunch of SM8 and SM10 helmets to a mix of motocross and woods riders, beginner to pro speed in both. And it is not very common for the average person to have them come off. Of all the Alpinestars Helmets I've sold, only 1 guy has changed to a different brand after a year of riding in his, but still uses it as a second helmet. A lot buying second ones as spares or getting an SM10 after they own an SM8 for a while and want to have a second helmet.
They take a good amount of force to pop off. The first time I removed one, I was worried I was going to break it. I kinda wonder if Alpinestars has modified versions for their Pro guys that pop off easier. I think that the average guy will only have theirs pop off in a crash. Maybe a decent hit on a tree branch , but small branches should not be a problem. The ball and socket parts can all be replaced if they are damaged. As long as the visor itself is OK it is around $50 retail for the replacement parts to replace all of the 3 balls and sockets , screws etc. So chances are that if the visor is OK , You'll only need a piece or 2 from that kit and have spares that will get You through any crashes that are not going to damage the helmet enough to need to be replaced.
The Magnetic ones, I had riders tell me stories of seeing them all over the woods during J-Day off-road races. I've only messed around with a magnetic visor on 1 helmet and do not really remember which version it was or how hard or easy it came off. But the Alpinestars visors are not as prone to popping off as the Fox ones were. I would rather it pop totally off than be hanging on like has happened to Webb in his Bell. He was trying to pull it the rest of the way off. Plus if You are on a trail ride or out on a practice track and have it pop off. You can just pop it back on. If You have a visor screw break ,You are screwed unless You have a spare with You out on Your trail ride. But You still need to get the old screw out. 6D has a screw designed to break and they provide a tool for removing that stub. I think there is another brand with a similar concept .
On the 2024 SM10 they do not include an extra anymore. You get a visor extension for mud instead. Another thing I noticed on the 24 SM10 is they do not have the pockets for speakers like the previous generation SM10 and current SM8 have. I have found that it makes the helmet fit tighter on some people. A customer who wears a Large SM8 with +5 cheek pads tried on a 2024 SM10 in a Large and it was very tight, the XL fit him near perfectly. Something to keep in mind if You get the 2024 model try it on before You buy it. The SM 8 did not change for 2024 as far as I know. We have only been stocking and selling the SM8 and 10 so I have no idea how the new SM5 may have changed compared to the 2023 and older.

Yup. As a dealer, when I last looked. They had some Carbon fiber glossy in XS, Small, XL and 2XL. They had more sizes in the solid white. They dropped prices on those. But some are still at full price. The LE versions from 2023, and some of the painted versions. I have not looked in a week or so though. Might have changed. But depending on the size and color, there are some deals. And I'm sure bigger shops like Rocky Mountain will run closeout deals that are even lower priced than what they paid if they get down to a few helmets left in a harder to sell size or color.
For some people the older SM10 might work better. The cheek pads are changed along with no cutout for a speaker/intercom. And the way the fit has changed . I have not tried changing the liner to adjust the fit to see how that might change the tightness of the new model yet. I plan on taking some time and taking the liners out of the newer SM10, the older one and an SM8 and doing a Youtube video to show what is different . At first glance the 2024 SM10 looked like it was only the chinbar and mouth piece that were changed. But I keep seeing more , the deeper I dig.

As an SM8 owner, I have not had my visor pop off. But then again, I haven't crashed hard in it

Man, Thrasher rang his bell, huh I mean his Alpinestars pretty bad (hope he's OK) and didn't even lose his visor. Pretty confusing, totally messes out statistics.
You can definitely crack the visor without it completely popping off. The only issue I have had with trees is getting bits of leaves stuck between visor and helmet.
Fit wise the 2024 m10 does fit a little tighter than previous. The sm5 has been out three years and all three year fit differently.
