I had a chance to pick up a 07 RM 250 for a steal that I found from some hillbilly on facebook.

The Good:
PC works exhaust (painted black to keep it from rusting...)
RG3 top clamp
Excel hubs/rims-Gold
plastic in good shape
Radiators straight
New top end
Fresh sprockets
New Barnett Clutch Basket
VForce 3
STARTED 1st Kick

The Bad:
Has a Devol Lowering Link and bearings were full of rust
- Devol lowering link used 05-08 CR450 bearings (found this out after ordering suzuki bearings)
Tires shot
Chain rusted
Shock leaking oil
Motor Oil was mainly clutch fibers...

List of parts ordered
16 RMZ front fender and number plate
Kenda Tires Parker DT front and rear
05-08 CR450 Linkage bearings
Rekluse
OEM clutch fibers
DZ Custom team graphics
Sent Suspension to TBT Racing of Oklahoma
Mika Metals YZ bend 1-1/8 bars
DT1 Filter
Cycra Bark Busters (does it piss anyone else off Cyrca doesnt make RM/RMZ plastic??)

The only reason I bought this bike is because it was to cheap to pass up and I am also building a YZ125 from the ground up. I had plans to get another YZ250 for this race season, however after riding this RM I kinda like it. Ill post more pics once I get my suspension back and start putting things back together.

On the list of mods:
HH rear brake foot pedal
Oversized tank
MotoSeats seat cover
ARC clutch perch/lever
ARC brake lever
Oversized front brake rotor

You must be planning to off road it. Stock tank is fine otherwise. The Kenda tires are a real compromise but they do last. A 8oz flywheel weight really reduces stalling and helps the hookup. Great bike.

I forgot to add that it did have a 8oz FWW when I got it.

Yes I will be racing it offroad. I have had very good luck running Kenda tires for the past few years.

Nice looking RM.

Does anyone else get an odd feeling when they see their number on another bike? It's like seeing an ex girlfriend. "Oh you're here on this bike now? Oh okay, cool..."

I don't think Hammerhead make rear brake levers for RM's. I think they are rubbish anyway, I've bent two of them and the pivot point wears way to quick and becomes sloppy in no time. crashed my YZF on a sand track last weekend, cracked my clutch cover.

I fitted one of their oversize brake

tips onto the oem lever because the stock suzuki tip is tiny. Its pretty easy and is way stronger because its already forged. Just grind the heads off the rivets, punch them out and run an M5 tap through the holes, the hammer head tip has the same hole spacings.

Slosh, that's exactly what I plan to do. I was reading your RM125 build yesterday and got the idea. Thanks for posting that!

I blasted the mag clutch and ignition cover and soaked them in water and baking soda to darken them. Not too happy with the turnout so at some point I will be getting some Boyesen covers for it.

The clutch hub had alot of old fiber material in it so I ordered new fibers and steels to go along with the rekluse

Nice bike, I think the RM250 is a better bike than the YZ250. The handling and ergonomics of the bike hands down are amazing you can't even tell you are on a 250. The YZ250 does have a better stock motor in my opinion more broad and versatile. The RM motor is just as effective in the hands of a good rider tho.

How do you like the PC pipe?

Ive only ridden the bike once, and the PC seemed to do pretty well, but I do not know how it ran with a stocker on it. I am considering getting a Bills pipe for it at some point. I have my first real race on it Jan 1. Until then I am waiting an parts to arrive so I can get back to work on it. Last night I took the carb off and brought it back to my work and vapor blasted it, then I put new hoses on it. I had some spare clear hose laying in my tool box so it was nothing really special to post. I am hoping my clutch comes in today so I can install with the new rekluse. I will post some pics when It does.

As far as the Yamaha goes, I have ridden Yamahas most of my life. My first big bike was the 01 YZ250F when they first came out. I was one of the first in Oklahoma to get one. I never even rode a 2 stroke 125 or 250 until 2013 when I bought my last 250...anyway I am getting off subject. The reason behind my next YZ purchase is the Arkansas Harescramble series has Yamaha contingency so It would be dumb not to ride one for easy(ish) money.

I did the same to mine then rigged up a little soda blaster and hit them with that, takes some of the sanding marks out

Stick with it.
It's guna take a lot of time, a selection of fine/very fine grit sand paper, sanding block, polish, but if you put in the effort you will get a mirror finish

It's still not finished but at this point it's just small parts here and there. Probably won't be too long and I'll split the motor and get some tranny work done but race season is fast approaching so not sure what I'll have time to do. I do have new brake calipers Ive cleaned up and done some work to and I'm planning to have them hard anodized along with SS brake lines.

Ok so I've ridden this bike twice in two seperate hare scrambles. So about 3.5 hrs total. Each time I rode the bike I changed the oil and there was a bunch of metal flakes and the oil was trashed. I got a Rekluse and put new fibers and steels in because I figured it was clutch material in the oil. After one ride I drained the oil again and it's still flaky and black. So I pulled the motor and need some direction on what could be the issue. I thought it might be the oil seal but the bike doesn't seem to smoke to bad and it runs great. The power valve is dripping with oil as is the exhaust port, but I've been running 110 at 32:1 yamalube. Any ideas where to start?

Did you consider spinning some ATF through it to help loosen the crud? It may take a few rides to get the gook out.

Yeah I think I'm gonna run some diesel thru it on the stand for a minute or so and drain it to loosen up the crud.

I may have over reacted when I yanked the motor but at least I can run it through the soda blaster while its out haha

Nice engine stand!

If it were my bike, I would rip it all the way down and inspect all the bearings and the tranny.

I bought a 05 CR125 once and the oil was so black it was like tar. I must have changed the oil 7 or 8 times and also flushed it with 2tgas 3 times. The oil was getting better and better each time but was still filthy after just one ride.

Just keep changing the oil often.

Normally I would split the cases but I'm gonna give the diesel treatment a shot first to save some time. If I split the cases then it's going to end up costing me big money...haha

Well I've been stagnant due to work and laziness. I went out to start putting the motor back together with some trick new aluminum bolts and was having trouble getting the clutch side case back on. After wrestling with it I found this

so..I had to order some parts. Looks like it's been that way for a minute.

On another note I found a set of stock hubs I was going to mate up to some Black Tusk wheels and spokes. But I'm missing the spacer that goes between the bearings...so again waiting on parts with nothing to do..

Sweet, I'm surprised you didn't repaint the frame black while the motor was out. Gold wheels are a must on Suzukis in my opinion. Not a big fan of black wheels. Love the yellow and blue. Is your devil link the one that lowers it 1-1/4 inch? If so, you'll need to have a spacer installed in the shock to keep the back wheel from going through the back fender when it bottoms. The forks need the spacer so it's lowered the same to keep the balance. I found this out on my RM500AF after buying one. Anyone need one cheap? My 07 RMZ 250 chassis uses the same link as the late model Rm.
